The movie didn't really give away any secrets of the F-22 though...... unless the F-22 can transform into a giant F'n robot, the military kept that from us. lol

Only exterior shots of the plane were used I believe, and images of the plane are easily found online anyway, so nothing we haven't seen before was shown if you get my drift.

Yeah, I do.

On a side-note: I thought the final, in-movie, scenes of Starscream and real F-22 pilots dog fighting each other was one of the best action sequences.

But I can't believe the military agreed to let them use one for the movie.
When they were starting production Michael Bay promised the most military involvement of any film, EVAR! He even went on and on about how awesome it was that they were allowed to use the F-22.

They used an F-22 in Live Free Or Die Hard as well, don't forget.

Ahem, I think you'll find the one in Die Hard 4.0 was an F-35 Lightning II, B Varient. The F-35B is a STOVL (Short TakeOff Vertical Landing) fighter, hence why you saw it hover in Die Hard. The F-22 can't do that.

...Otherwise known as the JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) by some as well...

They don't go into service until the close of the decade, which sucks, but its still one wicked plane.

Just watched this tonight ... 👍
those robot fighting actions are purely awesome! Definitely want to get a DVD version when it is out. I have to mention that Camaro vs Mustang cop car is a nice thought for car lovers. Also it is very fun to watch that always talk about Internet influence to culture stuff and as a car lover myself, it is just as good as Pixar's CARS IMO. Anyhow, the ending speech is too typical for American disaster genre movie which is ruined for me. They should try something different!

For the music, I like that Linkin Park's new song. It kinda links to the song Points of Authority that involves robots in its music video

Did you ever watch the cartoon? That was very typical of Optimus Prime. It fit the character, in every rendition, very well.

I had friend point something out yesterday:

Since we were kids we had been called geek, nerd, whatever for watching Transformers, reading the comics, and owning the toys. When they put out a movie suddenly everyone rushes to see it and bring in record numbers and they all talk about how awesome it was. I guess the world was just filled with a bunch of closet geeks.

I didn't watched the cartoon, so I know very little about transformer :P
"Liberty is the right of all sentient beings." - Optimus Prime long before this movie ever was hinted at.

It is hard to find a decent copy of the original cartoons, but if you get a chance watch them. You may even want to watch whetever the new version is that is supposed to be coming out.

But an easy to find thing would be the original animated movie, which was released on DVD last year. You should be able to rent it. Granted, my childhood was blasted away in the first 20 minutes, but it will still give you a great image of what the cartoons were about. The kids always were the key to saving the day and Optimus Prime sounded like a Libertarian.

But anyways, on this movie, meh. The robot battles were quite awesome, and stuff did in fact blow up. But there were too many holes in the movie, too many throw-away scenes, and no where near enough focus on the Transformers themselves, despite that fact that the movie was, in fact, a Transformers-related piece.

I figured out what has me conflicted about this movie after reading the short review given by Think Geek in their newsletter/advertisement.
Think Geek
Well, Transformers hit the big screens this week and despite being awash with plot holes, we came away mostly pleased. Ok, who are we kidding? As much as we want to be intellectual movie reviewers, we're fanboys and fangirls like many of you, and not only were there super amazing robots blowing stuff up, but our very own 42 ringer T-Shirt is worn by one of the characters! How cool is that?
I think that sums it up. My mind is saying, "It was a bad movie. BUT IT WAS TRANSFORMERS!!!11!!one!!"

Could not agree more. I watched it in the comfort of my home (Hax, I know) and even with pausing and rewinding it, I was having issues with just how little stuff was being developed.

I edited this up a bit to make it forum worthy, orginal post to go with it can be found at www.vgcats.com I think it sums up the movie quite well.

That, and scroll past it, there is a spoiler in it, though the movie isn't quite that random.

I'll just link straight to it if people think that is best...

How exactly did you accomplish this unless by illegal means? Be careful what you post. As well, I can't speak for other users on here, but I'm against pirating and it's not "cool" for someone to watch Transformers at home while it's still in theatres. Perhaps your friends think that's something to be proud of, but it ain't.

And those cartoons suck; they're about as funny as a triple bypass.

Yes, I'm fed up of the Transformers bashing. It's been out for three weeks. NO ONE GIVES A FLYING **** ANYMORE.

I have to agree.

Calm down. People bash movies long after they're out on video in the What Movies Have You Seen Lately thread. Plus, some people are just now getting to see it, so their opinions now are just as valid as mine was after opening day.

I really think that Transformers 2 will be better because they ARE hearing what people are saying.

My main problem with the movie was that it WAS NOT a transformers movie. It was a movie on earth that had transformers in it. And to me, this is why it wasn't as good as the original animated movie that was a Transformers movie with a few humans in it.

It really makes me wonder sometimes. Do these directors/producers really think people wouldn't watch a movie that was 75% huge transforming robots battling/talking/interacting? Seriously, the movie is supposed to be transformers! Bumblebee didn't transform until God knows how long and then it was still all about Sam whitwiki. Not about the incredible 40 foot machines walking around his house.

Anyway, the movie was fun to watch and entertaining, but far from being a good Transformers movie. I really hope they pull it together for the next one.

Basically, what I was getting at, is I don't think its really worth paying to see, and I still had issues with following the lacking plot elements. Further more, you have no idea why I would be able to watch it at home. I could have it via perfectly legal means (reviewer DVD), but I also have my own issues with the idiocy that is the MPAA.

You are allowed you opinion, but cut back on seeming personally offended by it all. Just because you have a transformers avatar does not mean you need to go into rabid fanboy mode. I have found MANY people agree with how that cartoon explains the movie.

Final note, 3 weeks after a movie comes out, and you think its a dead issue? Hell, I only see 3 or 4 movies in theatres a year, so is my opinion on all the ones I see after they are on DVD become invalid because I didn't have the time, money, or interest to see it opening night? Get over yourself - you'll be hearing people bashing and praising the movie a bunch once it comes out on DVD again. And I think alot of people give a crap about what people think of the movie.

Back on topic - I agree with you Swift on a second movie being better, because those responsible for this will realize how glorious they screwed up. We can only hope, because they is alot that could be right with this movie that would make it more than another action movie.

Whether a second movie will be better will most likely depend on if it gets all Bayed up again. As a director the final product has his name on it and if he watches any combined footage, before and after editing, and doesn't see the plotholes then he has failed as a director. If he does see them and says oh well, then he has just become lazy.

And then I am truly astounded that Spielberg most likely watched the finished cut and approved it as Producer. When I watch ET I never once have to try to figure out what is going on, or where someone disappeared to, or how things happen. No, it paid attention to all the little details that could have been left out and we would have figured it out, but make the story more cohesive when left in there.

My wish for the sequel is that Spielberg take on the directing himself. Imagine Transformers like ET, where kids love it and adults are left going 'wow.'

I thought Mike Bay wasn't officially attached to the second film yet? What I had heard was that only the majority of the cast had been signed, but not the director.

...They should let George Lucas do it. Just so all of the nerds of the world have their heads explode after a massive nerd-gasm while on their computer...

If Lucus directs it, I will NOT go to see it. Period. I may rent the DVD, but there's no way I'm paying 10$ for another Lucas debacle.

I agree. Foolkiller has the best suggestion by far, and I could see that being great. And much better than Bay's ADHD technique of working the cameras, etc.

Some people do give a flying **** Anderton, because being a UK resident, its only just been released here. :guilty:

You would be correct, which is why I still have hopes that teh sequel will be a bit more controlled.

You really want to see a nerd-gasm? Give them Joss Whedon and give Nathan Fillion a role.

Thats great. Too bad it will never happen...

Like we discussed before, I'd still say that James Cameron would be an interesting pick, but after Comic Con 2007, I think we have a wild-card:

Jon Favreau

If he can pull-off Iron Man correctly (the trailer shown at 'Con seems to show it), he may not be a bad pick for the next film.

I enjoyed the movie though there were a few little holes in the plot it stayed entertaining.

The ending was um, abit perverted though.

Allow me to clarify. In the world of film, if you haven't seen it on opening day, you're behind. A new blockbuster comes out each week during the summer, and the discussion of each is only really relevant until the next one comes out. I keep coming into this thread looking for insight or something of value, and now, even so long after the movie's been released, I keep reading "I just saw it and I thought it was crap" posts. At this point, is anyone really honestly reading other users' opinions of friggin Transformers and basing their own choice of whether to see the film themselves or not on them? Hollywood isn't talking about it anymore, the newspapers aren't talking about it anymore, because Harry Potter and now Bourne have usurped the "hot topic" title from it. I understand the UK release date discrepancy, but if you didn't see the movie on opening night then you aren't a fan. Problem with that? Too bad, I don't care. Why don't you go into work tomorrow and ask everyone there what they think of how Paris Hilton went to jail for DUI?

And Azure, if you have some legal explanation for why you are watching movies currently playing in theatres in the comfort of your own home, why not offer some up, instead of hinting that you "could be" this or you "might be" that? Oh and for your information I had this avatar LONG before there was even a solid possibility that this movie would even be made at all. I hardly call myself a fanboy; in fact, anyone who's still a "fanboy" of a cartoon and toy line from 20 years ago is mentally deficient. I had a few Transformers toys when I was a kid, I watched the cartoon semi-regularly, and I thought the concept of a live-action movie would be interesting to look at, and thinking so has protected me from being monumentally disappointed by it.

I still can't believe people go to see a movie knowing it's directed by Bay and is about alien robots that transform into everyday objects, and still walk out afterwards complaining that it was loud and had plot holes and was little more than eye-candy. THIS USED TO BE A CARTOON FOR CHILDREN, PEOPLE!! What the hell were you expecting?

Anderton, I have no need to answer your question. I will assert that I did nothing illegal though.

In regard to your avatar, you have had the better part of 2 years, at least. I remember seeing it for some time. That is why I actually made the fanboy comment, because most people would not stomach the same avatar for a couple years.

We are not a film critic community. We do not make a point of going and seeing films opening night. For that matter, I make a point to avoid that generally. What the newpapers say, or what the media hypes next, is not really of importance here. This is just a place to exchange thoughts, and I feel, despite more and more people going "it kinda sucked," we have also discuessed WHY it failed, and what needs to be resolved to fix it. I think most of us are just disappointed that it was so poorly put together.

X-men, Spiderman, etc, all started out as comics and cartoons for kids. Hell, LOOK at the old comics, they are cheese land. Most of the movie adaptations have been far better than Transformers was. People were expecting something more than what they got here, and thats why there is such a fuss. They didn't expect the next Blade Runner, Matrix, or Wizard of Oz. They just expected a half decent movie, not a visual orgasm with no real bearing on its franchise.

Transformers was never really a "comic book" phenomenon. That was a side-effect. That's why the whole idea was so hard to execute onscreen, because it was so childish. I'm just saying if you go into a movie uneducated then you risk way more possibility of being disappointed, especially for a movie with a lot of hype surrounding it.
