Which do you think was the better trilogy overall. It's such a tough call IMO. I am going to vote LOTR only because it felt more like a "natural" trilogy, because it was filmed in one shot, where as Matrix was more of a forced trilogy. I think both were amazing though and can't wait for the DVDs.
 
There is no contest tween the two. LOTR, hands down.

Had the Matrix 2 and 3 had more content instead of theartrics there might have been a chance. Comparing the first of each trilogy, it's split pretty close. almost a 50/50 decision. The Second LOTR was a step up all around, while the 2nd Matrix just left everybody wondering. The third LOTR wrapped the conclusion up very nicely. Excellent conclusion. The 3rd matrix barely (if not at all) answered any question it posed in the second one.

Lord of the Rings was DEFINITELY better than the matrix in terms of trilogies.


In a fight though....Neo would own ANYBODY in Lord of the Rings:lol:
 
having not seen the third of the LOTR trilogy (opens here in AUS tomorrow 26/12/03) and judging by the first 2 and the build up of the third, it was an easy choice
 
I have just seen the LOTR 1&2 for the first time a few days ago. I'm not into these types of movies, but wow...

Two of the best movies I have ever seen.

Undeniably, the Lord of the Rings gets my vote.
 
I hate LOTR. It's just boring melodramatic crap save for the cool fight scenes. I saw Return Of The King recently and I actually fell asleep. I was in the second row of seats and I've never fallen asleep in the theater. BORING!

I do not understand the appeal at all to this series. You watch 210 minutes of movie and about 30 minutes of it is enjoyable. Yuck.

The Matrix Trilogy easily wins.

I voted for the Matrix. I could sit and watch the entire trilogy like 4 times a week and I would still be entertained. The last two times I rented LOTR (1 and 2), I ended up getting bored and falling asleep. I'm not saying the LOTR isn't an awesome trilogy. It definitely is. I thought the first two were amazing when I saw them in the theatres. I haven't seen the third movie yet, but I'm sure that will be awesome as well. All I'm saying is that the Matrix series does a better job of holding my attention. I guess I'm just more interested in guns and martial arts than hobbits and orcs. Every time the hobbits come on screen in LOTR, I lose interest and I can't wait till they switch back to a scene with Aragorn and Legolas, etc. . :shrugs:

I also voted for the Matrix. LOTR just didnt appeal to me.
 
I hated the last two matrix movies. I also hated the last LOTR movie. Oh well. LOTR had more entertainment and good storytelling than matrix did.
 
Rings

The matrix is in my opinion, the equivalent of a politician...

He (the movie) came out with one initial statement... Took the time to check opinion polls and decided to come out with slightly modified statements capitalizing on his previous success.

Unfortunately, just like in politics, the opinion poll based change of statement made for total crap.

Then take the rings... all made at once, under one maker, with a single goal in mind the whole time. (all the while never caring about the opinions of the masses.)

Rings all the way!
 
I am a Everquest crackhead, (EQOA) for those who are too. Got a 12 Wizzy on ProudPine because I just switch to the PS2 Version. I will be on constantly if anyof you wanna get on, Zdiren.

Anywho that means I am a middle earth kinda guy, and I love the dwarf. He is the one I would model myself after. Rock on Glimili...
 
Seeing as I am a diehard fan of both trilogies equally, this decision does not come easily. On the one hand you have the Matrix, which is a nonstop action packed thriller. On the otherhand, you have LOTR, which was written by an author who experienced WWI firsthand and wrote LOTR to reflect that.

I am going to have to say the LOTR was a much better trilogy because there is more of a plot behind it and it did not leave fans wondering what would happen at the end of each film unlike the Matrix trilogy did.

u know why? when you work at the movies like i do, you tend to hate any movie that brings in the crowds
 
LOTR. at the very end, the matrix trilogy fell to less than 50% the quality of the 1st movie. the second and third just didnt cut it.
 
I would have said the Matrix if I liked Revolutions better.

I think that all 3 of LotR movies were solid, where as I did not enjoy the third Matrix movie near as much.
 
Any word on when either of these two trilogies will come out in a DVD set? I would imagine that the Matrix will be first, followed shortly by LOTR, but who knows? I have been hearing March/April, but I haven't seen anything official anywhere. (I bet they both beat GT4 to the shelves though.)
 
LOTR has a cohesive vision. LOTR is exquisitely crafted, scene by scene. LOTR has better acting, better special effects, and a better story. Better. Better. Better in every conceivable way.

The Matrix was okay. Just another movie. You won't be seeing The Matrix on TCM in 20 years. But you will be seeing LOTR.

LOTR wins hands down.

True, I guess that's one thing that really bothered me and it might have been one of the reasons it became a disapointment in 2 and 3?

This was very hard for me. I liked them both very much. Though, LOTR is a great series and has many things necessary for a good series, I don't like it as much as The Matrix series. I just have a thing with computers, I guess.

I don't often do this, but: ditto.
 
The Matrix is "trix". The LOTR is a story.
I prefer a story to slick special effects and a weak, if not barely existent storyline.
I can't say I'm a big fan of Tolkien's books. He is one of those famed writers that crams a 500 page story into 1200 pages. It seems that in some respects, Clancy has followed suit.
However, the movies are very good (even if you haven't read the books).
 
Back to the Future! I have no intrest in seeing LOTR, and Only the first Matrix was any good. It was a great movie though.:)
 
The first Matrix owned any of the LOTR movies, but as we are talking about the trilogy as a whole: LOTR. The 2nd and 3rd Matrix were really below my expectations. 👎
 
I know sorry a little off topic. I just wished they had done better with those sequels!:mad:
 
what about some of the OTHER trilogys. at the movies where i work, there are 3 trilogys playing (woah trippy, 3 three's) LOTR im sure u can all think of but what about the other 2. spy kids 3D and scary movie 3. now they are classic movies, better than any other trilogy ever made. besides the police academy movies NOT :lol:
 
It's tough to compare across genres like this.

Both sets had lots of ground breaking special effects.

Both had fantastic stories

LOTR has the edge in the acting category.... but the matrix was original whereas LOTR was based on a book.


If you separate tolkein's work out of this, and compare Jackson's work with the W Brother's work. I'll have to go with the matrix because it had to be written from scratch.
 
i like matrix better though only just. I just wished the ending was better :(
