True Detective (HBO)

This and Breaking Bad are probably the best shows I've seen in a while. The past two episodes were so incredible!

First aired in the UK last night, I thought it was really good, cant wait to see more!

I'm watching this on now tv and there only upto E4 so far, but what a great show 👍

Cottoned on to this series a few days ago and drank it in over three days.

Way back when, I carried a gun and a badge, bonked court house girls, was steeped in drug culture and the occult; so it resonated very strongly for me.

I dont remember your name? maybe we crossod paths way back then ? I was a court house girl, drank whiskey out the bottle & carried a .45 along with one helluva attitude.

Heh heh! My flings with court house girls began in western Washington jurisdictions in '69, and came to a screeching halt in Texas 10 years later when I got my head straightened out and a better purpose in life.

I put down the bottle and laid down my gun in '72 just as the vietnam vets were a comin home. It was around that time i jumped in my stolen rusty ole coupe and headed out west with elvis blasting on the radio, looking for an quieter life. Thee only thing i didn't leave behind that day was my rattleskin boots that an old man down in texas made me, i wore them things for so goddamn long they were practically a tattoo on me.

I loved this show. The acting was fantastic. The story was great. The writing was top notch. The vibe of this show just got under my skin.

I was surprises it ended this way. Does anyone know if the show will get a second season?

I believe there will be a second season, but with a different cast of characters and location.

So it was confirmed that there would be a second season with different characters and location like Dotini said, location is thought to be somewhere in California and the new characters means that Harrelson and McConaughey wont be back, one of the replacements being rumoured is Colin Farrell..

Any news on who's writing and directing it? The actors don't really matter to me aa long as they truly deliver.

Finally got the chance to watch this after picking it up for $20 at JB HI-FI. It was thoroughly brilliant, the combination of noir and philosophy that compliment one another. I did feel that it got a little hung up on Marty's family life at times when it could have been foreshadowing the wider conspiracy, though.

Vince Vaughn in a serious role?!...hmmmmmm....

I had similar reservations about McConaughey as a nihilistic detective, but he pulled it off brilliantly. I could easy picture Vaughan as a small-time criminal whose success hinges on his hitching his business to the right backer at the right time, and when the carpet is yanked cleanly and violently out from under him, he finds he has to go back on his principles in order to survive.

I'm mostley concerned about farrell. I just hope he doens't do his routine bad-boy act. It's not that interesting.

I just hope the writig will be everything as good as the first season.

The first trailer for season 2 is out now:

And a release date of June 21st.

Second season starts tonight in the US and tomorrow night at 9pm in the UK, stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughan, Rachael McAdam and Taylor Kitsch and its set in LA.

Wasn't bad. There's a lot of legwork that it needed to do, so it was very slow-burn, even compared to the first season.

So, having rewatched "The Western Book of the Dead", here are some thoughts:

- Ray clearly represents choice. He is corrupt, and his situation is a direct result of choices that he consciously made and with an understanding of the consequences of those actions. But on the other hand, Paul represents the chosen. His situation is a direct result of choices made for him by others, like the actress soliciting him and Internal Affairs' decision to suspend him.
- Paul also represents nature. All three of the protagonists are damaged in some way, and of the three, Paul's erectile dysfunction is a natural thing. Again, there is a flip side to this; if Paul is nature, than Ani is nurture. Her gambling and dysfunctional relationship with her sister are clearly a result of her upbringing.
- Ani represents the objective nature of "good". She is clearly a crusader, focused and highly driven and values upholding the law above all. On the other hand, Ray is subjectivity; his conscious decision to corrupt himself will be viewed as wrong by society and the law, even if it was for a good purpose. To take things a step further, Ani represents an objective good in the face of a subjective evil, whereas Ray is a subjective good in the face of an objective evil.
