I've got Black Box Syndrome over touching suspension. Just because I don't understand it. Yes yes I've read up about it. Just not a gearhead.

I get the basics: drop the car low, you get more aerodynamics and somewhat better handling due to lower center of gravity BUT you can bottom out.

Same with downforce (vaguely) in that more downforce keeps your ends down, but I'm assuming it affects acceleration or top speed?

Usually I just get a car, upgrade the brakes, tranny, exhaust, lighten, then go and shovel the gear ratio to max (or wide) and then smoke most competition.

But that "get my car to ride like it's on rails" intrigued me. Figuring u guys probably know more about this stuff than I do.

HELP?

PLEASE?

Thanks in advance.

well, if you increase downforce, then the car 'sticks' to the ground better.
increased downforce adds 'weight' to the car, making it more stable.
the downside is that it reduces top speed.
if you decrease downforce, then the car is capable of higher top speeds.
the downside of this is that the car is more unstable. it can get all kitty-wompus if you hit a big bump.
lower ride height decreases the amount of air flowing under the car, but the car can bottom out on inclines or bumps.
air flowing under the car creates lift, which counteracts downforce, causing the same effects as low downforce.

and camber is tire angle. if you have your camber and your downforce set up right, your tires will not touch the ground completely at rest. when you're at speed, downforce will push your car down, causing your tires to all be flat on the ground.

hope this helps!

In one of your earlier posts you said that all cars have to be bought to keep things far, but you cannot buy the F1's

you can use the f1 cars. they have their own class. i know you can't buy them. in the f1 class, you're only competition will be f1 cars.

hmm i would join this but as i only have 3k credits in the bank i think i'll pass
might restart my current game though because i chose a ****ty car to begin with and cant win any race past the Sunday Cup

Horsepower is for cowboys implies a love of Colin Chapman's approach to racing -- lightweight cars and efficient powerplants.

I love the GT40 but not that impressed with the OHV V8. Would love to try it with the Calibra touring car V6 (15,000 rpm) instead.

I have been trying to win a MR2 S race car, but don't have a car that will be competitive with the prototypes (R390, GT One, Mazda 787B) in the SS11 endurance race.

Any favorites besides the Elise?

me and my friend do the same sort of thing, except we give a price limit on the car you buy first, usually small as little imports can be alot of fun. then we do little mods like basic suspension, first intake/exhaust, stage two clutch. that kind of thing. it's alot of fun. when we have just given eachother a limit of like 100,000, we both end up with an annoying, non competetive race because we choose so differently.

I have to say that I'm a huge fan of Colin Chapman's and Lotus's approach to racing.I've always loved their lightweight cars from the Lotus\Caterham 7's upto the Espirit's and i'd take 1 anyday over a heavier car with more HP. :lick:

Second Posted Challenge Times!

Price Class: 60k to 80k
Car Class: Normal
Car: Mazda RX-7 RZ

Parts:
-sports suspension
-sports computer chip
-stage 1 turbo upgrade
-racing intercoolor
-twin plate clutch
-racing flywheel
-medium grade racing tires

times:
Laguna Seca - 1:30.998
Complex String - 5:04.787
Super Speedway - 0:40.054

Total Time - 7:15.839

This challenge was a grand laugh! It adds a little bit more playability to the game to have people set up challenges like this one. I hope to see more times and some competition in the 60-80k class!

is the price class just basically how much the car costs to buy?

say i bought a car in the 60-80 class would that mean that i can spend 60-80k on it?

Wow... this is OLD... :D

"Price class" is merely how much money you start with. If the price class is 60-80k, then you can spend anywhere between 60 and 80k on you car AND mods in total, not 60-80k on the car, then 60-80k on the mods...

This kind of race has been trotted out elsewhere in the last 2 years since this thread was active. Most recently at the GTLeague at gt.de.

I thought it was more of a budget, so you incorporated the car cost into the 60-80k sort of thing...

yeah, the cost of the RX-7 i used was part of the 60-80k i had to spend. the price class is how much you can spend on a car, then the change is what you spend on mods
i spent around 78k for this challenge, 39k for the car, and another 39k on parts
