It's always annoyed me how you can never just 'see' the paint you want to use on your car before committing to it's use, instead having to judge the outcome using that stupid little rotating car model. Today i wanted to try some new things on my Yellow Bird. I bit the bullet and used a matte black. When it came out of the cloud of paint i thought it looked rubbish. Damn it, that's another matte used up - but NO! Before pressing another button i just quit the game using the PS button. Upon reloading the game, the Yellow Bird was still Yellow!

One of those "why did i never think of doing that before" moments - :dunce:

That's because the game doesn't save until you exit the GT-Auto section.

This allows you to try any colour with any car and reset if you don't like it.

But let's be honest, a preview would be nice, rather than having to reload the game every time you don't like a paint colour ;)

Well, you learn something every day! I always thought it used the paint chip the moment you painted it. It does say 'Do you want to paint your car this color? Doing so will use up a Paint Item'

As clear as mud.

Good to know, especially for chrome ones!
Looking forward for a full paint preview...

It doesnt even need a preview..

Just a "cancel" button after you painted the car.. simple as that :D

Yes! It would be wonderful if the game would ask you something like "Do you like this paint?" and waits for your decision before actually using the selected paint chip on the car. 💡

I like the current setup of using the 'miniture model' - its realistic. But they should allow you to view a much larger version of that model, so it becomes much clearer as to how it would look on the car.

Thanks for the tip!!! Now when I get my paints on the 25th imma go crazy trying to see what paint looks nice on what car. haha

I don't understand the point behind the stupid GT Auto animations.

Kaz, I hope you and your moron patrol are reading all of this.

1) The paint selection menu should be easier. I'll forgive the fact that you can go into any paint shop and have your car painted any color you want. I'll accept that one can only paint a car from a selection of colors chosen by auto manufacturers. But do I really need to scroll through 1500 paint chips?

2) Once I select the paint chip, the car should be that color. No stupid little spinning wedge. It should look like, oh, I don't know, the aerokit selection! I'm not asking for a whole new idea, I'm just asking that you be consistent with your ideas! Clearly though, you can't be consistent with your ideas. There are some menus where the confirm option is on the right and some where the confirm option is on the left. It is called a User Interface, seriously. Look into it, Kaz.

Wow. And you expect to get somewhere with him coming off like that. Good luck with that. Let me know how it turns out for you. Coming off like a spoiled brat isn't going to get you anywhere.

I bought a new car recently and when I had to choose the colour they handed me a pair of plastic car silhouettes (exactly the same shape as those in GT5), one in silver, the other in blue (no, sorry, Graphite and Waterworld). Luckily they had a pair of models in those colours at the showroom so I could see for myself what they actually looked like, because being handed those chips brought memories of trial and error car painting in GT5 flooding back.

A preview is not asking too much, but I believe it's one of the things we will probably see in an update in the future. It's probably fairly low on the list, though.

No. I don't expect anything to be fixed. We are on the second version of the fifth iteration. The same things are broken. They will never be fixed.

Oh, no, wait... they'll all be fixed in Spec 3. Yeah... that's the ticket. In Spec 3, with the new intro. Yeah, yeah, with Morgan Fairchild. That's the ticket.

 I've been doing that since day one (or day two or three actually). It's just a lot of bother over painting a car when a preview function would be a very simple solution. Press preview, it paints the car but doesn't use chip, message saying "do you wish to use this paint chip, yes or no", press no, car repainted in original colour, job done. But then that's a bit too logical for PD.

I swear every single I've read from you is scynical or sarcastic. Why do you even bother posting on a GT forum if you never ever have nothing good to say? :ouch:

No, you don't. Use the the categorization system to narrow it down.

This is for authenticity.. That is the universal model that car painters use for mockups.

I love it when people try to blame others for their own ignorance and incompetence.

I haven't read all his posts, so I don't know how cynical he is. Relax, though. In this case, he is saying the same thing we are all thinking.

Why does it show me the spoiler actually on the car before I commit to purchasing it, but it doesn't show me the paint on the car before I commit to purchasing it?

Oh, wait... sorry, that wasn't positive.

Uhm... Look over there!

I'm not asking for everyone to be positive... hell I know this painting lark on GT5 is stupid and needs sorting out.

But why focus on all the negatives and problems that GT5 has, and just enjoy the bloody game for what it is?!

Oh yeah, I forgot... cos people MUST moan and find fault ALL the frickin' time :dunce:

LOL!

Yes, because, it is so authentic to have a guy roll under the car, with no tools, and magically change the oil! At least now I completely understand the silly animations. So you have to sit in the lobby and wait, just like one would authentically have to wait at the Libby Jube.

Wait... where is the authenticity?! My Alfa has never once burst into a cloud of steam. And I have a thirty year old Triumph, and I swear, I can't find a leak in the roof at all!

Sorry, this thread is really just too funny to me.

I guess the reason behind them doing it in GT5 is to make as realistic as possible. You don't get to preview a colour on your car in real life when you go to get a resprayed, you either like it or lump it, just like in GT5.

Although I myself would like a preview/cancel option if I'm honest.

I took my car to Macco yesterday. I had them paint it for me. I liked it so much, I took my wife's car.

They told me that they couldn't paint her car that color. The paint chip was consumed yesterday by the mixing machine, and no one ever bothered to write down the formula. They really don't even know how I got the chip.

I asked them if they could ring up the dealer, but they said that I could just go buy that car again.

I asked them if I could stop by the paint store and just buy the paint.

Seriously, they looked at me like I was from Mars. They had no idea what I meant by "paint store". A store that sells paint. It was beyond them.

(Seriously, I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh at my own jokes, but that was just funny.)

Oh so it's not completely authentic in every way, therefore it shouldn't try to be authentic in ANY way! Make no attempt for any kind of authenticity, PD! All or nothing!

Don't read my posts if it doesn't suit your pro-PD never say anything bad against them blinkered viewpoint. Simple.
