XBox sucks
Good morning to you all. I have a question about the hud on the screen, i was just wondering if ther is anyway of turning it of so that u can use the gauges instead.

i was watching a vid on youtube and the guy did not have it ther. Could it have been the replay??

It's not practical to turn the Hud off at the moment since the speed displayed on the dial is always in KPH in Japanese & European cars and always in MPH in British and American cars no matter what setting you use in options.

When racing you should watch the ref counter, not the speedo.

I was pointing out why the Hud can't be turned off. Not what I look at on the screen. You are right though, it is revs that matter.

I have been saying this over and over again.. PD please give us the option of turning it off!
I HATE my race games with the HUD on.. i want me, the rivals and the track.. i dont need to see 10% of my left upper screen cluttered with a map of a course i allready know in and out, backwards and forwards.

Also, i know when to shift (if you drive manual) because of the excellent hand-movement to the stick when the driver is about to shift.

All in all, PD just need to set it as a option.. it could not be more easier from a developers point of view, just let us have the option to turn it on or off, maybe partially as well.

Small deal, big favor.

👍 couldn't agree more 👍

But I would keep sector time's and splits.

Actually, the map is there to help tell you the track positions of your rivals. But whatever, the point of the HUD is mostly to give you the information you are lacking because of the nature of the game (for example, it gives you the lap time information on screen because you dont have a pit crew giving you the information over radio or through pit wall boards).

Well, anyway, just making a point that the HUD isnt necessarily pointless and unrealistic.

Also agree with you there...perfect would be the partial turn off,so you can decide what you do and don't want to see...

BTW,i don't shift looking at the drivers hand but listening to the sound of the engine:sly:

spyrrari.

There's no rule to what you should or shouldn't watch. Some things that work for some people won't work for others. Just do whatever get's you the lap times.

Either way, neither is as efficient as watching the rev counter and changing at the most appropriate revs. The drivers hand movement towards the gear stick only happens when your reaching the Red of the rev counter and is more of a reminder to change then rather than the optimum change time. Listening to the engine is good as if your used to it you can find a pitch that will notify you to change gears at the correct time, not necassarily on the mark but pretty close.

As for the HUD, i agree with you, i would like the option to turn on/off different parts of the HUD as i see fit. If the rev counter/speedo were more readable in some cars, i would turn them off entirely and just go per car. Also would like an option to see car ahead seconds at the split/across the line as well as car behind seconds at the split/across the line. But they would only really come into effect on the longer races.

I do similar, I get a few laps in to get the feel of the car and make a mental note of each gears rev limit before bouncing back and then when in race or hotlap I use the engine noise to alert me to when I'm nearing the rev limit and look at the speedo and gear up 1 or 2 mph before the limit is reached .... sad but true :guilty:

^^ The problem with going by noise and recognizing the rev limit by mph is that your probably going slower than you could otherwise be. For example, with my F40 setup, going from gear 4 to gear 5, the maximum speed before i hit rev limiter is approx 210kmph. But after approx 192kmph the car isnt gaining as much speed as it would before hitting that number, the gear accelerates up and the speed gets faster..faster until it reaches 192kmph then, while still rising, it rises at a slower rate. If i change gears at 192kmph, i get a much better acceleration into the 200kmph range and above than i would running 4th gear to its max rev limit before changing.

For example..if i remember right (excuse me if im off a bit, but its for examples sake..been a couple days since i've played GT5P) the F40 has a rev limit of 7000rpm, approx 6000rpm is where the red line starts, and its most efficient to change up gear between 5000 - 5500 rpm to get the most speed out of the car. Anything above 5500rpm and the engine is working that much harder to gain kmph and is actually losing you time staying in a high rev range as opossed to shifting up a gear. You cant do this by listening for the sound...unless the car has quite a distinct sound to it. And the 'driver' doesnt move his hand across to the gear stick until after 6000rpm. You have to know what rev range to change gears and know when your car is in that rev range..something you ned the rev counter for and to look at it.

Yeah I agree there's a few cars where it's a must to gear up just before it hits the redline also like the RX8 etc and that's when I will watch the speedo and ignore the engine sound ... I'm pretty picky though and most cars I drive seem to perform better running into the red, there is the odd car where it needs a different approach for sure!
I admittedly do avoid the Ferrari's, NSX and GTLM etc and will settle for the Z06 anyday over those cars as it fits my driving style better in grip and gearing 👍
