You don't seem to be getting it.

RIM = the outermost part of the "WHEEL". Hence your usage is incorrect. This isn't a matter of opinion, it's fact.

Because saying wheels sounds stupid. I say both though lol. I refer to wheel as the whole setup and rim to be the steel in the middle of the tires hole.

Dont you think i'm aware of the fact that the outer edge of a circular object is called a rim..

no ****ing ****..

however, it is STANDARD practice, for 'rim' to be used as slang for a wheel, on an automobile.

what the **** are you, a walking dictionary?

jesus theres more gestapo around here than in ww2.

OMG people, there are more posts about whether wheel or rim is the correct term, than there are about the actual subject. I call wheels rims, and I call the rim of a wheel, the lip, and I'm about as hardcore into track driving/car building as it gets. Its all terminology, we all know what your talking about when you use the word, who cares.

What I got when I googled Rims:

What I wonder is what is keeping PD and T10 from allowing stock wheels to be painted (also why we're not able to do 2 color wheels, or painted and chrome or whatnot). Wonder if it's something to do with the programming of being on the vehicle or something.

Personally I think the wheel selection & customization is great, however I dont like how some vehicles have a better wheel selection than others. Muscles, Exotics, & Domestic & Imports also seem to have particular wheels that other cars have which really *****ing annoys me!

The same goes for standard cars. I think PD should've made the wheel selection the same for all cars. If I wanted to put torque thrusts wheels on a GTR or enkei RPF1's on a Cuda it shouldnt be that hard to do!
& people please stop the arguing with the "Rims, not wheels" thing, it's Stupid & is filling this thread with irrelevent posts

Wow.... People seriously are missing the point of the word "rim" in car terms. A rim on a wheel is the metal lip the holds the rubber tire in place and the tire glues on to making a tight seal for air pressure. That rim is made into one piece usually by 3 different pieces of chosen metal to work with. Therefore that whole piece is the rim that holds the tire to complete the set making it into a finished car wheel. Also don't forget people, "wheel" could mean the steering column. So I'll stick with calling a rim... a rim.

Example: Bob - "Grab the wheel bro!" Idiot - "Uhhhh *jumps out of car and grabs onto a "wheel aka rim"*"

Context is everything. ;)

Note that when you drive, you usually hold the rim of the steering (look, context!) wheel.
Does an object actually have to be made up of discrete components in order to be "able" to refer to different areas of it with different terms? I doubt it.

Ah, language...

Y'See, since the good old days, when the Romans were busy invading Britain, and right on down to the very first motor carriages, (note the key words here people) RIMS were often replaced as they wore out/were damaged. Same as spokes. The replacement rim would be reattached to the original spokes, which were, in turn attached to a central mounting point, known as a "HUB", forming (wait for it!) a WHEEL.

So, once again - THE RIM IS THE OUTER EDGE SECTION OF A WHOLE ASSEMBLY KNOWN AS A WHEEL.

Oh and since when was a "column" a "wheel"?

DOES IT REALLY 🤬 MATTER!!!

Yes.

Yes.

Dude, as of now I can no longer tell if youre just dumb or you are trolling us..

Look at our location man, USA. you dont live here, you arent american, so how the hell would you know what vernacular we use..

Dont you guys call wrenches 'spanners' ? ay mate, pass me a spanner?

I could go on and on about how you are 'wrong' because a spanner isnt a wrench, but then i'd be an idiot wouldnt I? because that is an ACCEPTED term, in your neck of the woods,

whereas, RIM is an accepted term, in our part of the world

seriously man, **** off! youre fighting a losing battle!

It's still wrong.

PS: You might want to check the AUP before you advise someone to "**** off" again.

Drevenger
You can glitch paint stock wheels / rims in an older version (pre 2.01)
The only sad thing is theres only so few model available to this glitch.

Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evolutione '91
Maserati GranTurismo S '08
BMW 1 series Concept Tii '07
Nissan Silvia SpecR Areo (S15) '02
Nissan Skyline R33 GTR V-Spec '97
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI GSR T.M. SCP '99

Are the only ones I know of.
Anyone knows if theres more car available?

Yes, the painted rim/wheel glitch also works on the Citroen C4 and the High End Performance G37, think there might be a few more possible but those are one I can remember right now, I've reverted back to version 2.00 to exploit this glitch but obviously my game data from version 2.05 doesn't work with older software version of the game so had to start again from scratch.

Spanner vs. wrench is in no way comparable to wheel vs. rim. A wrench is never a component of a spanner, is it? They're functionally the same thing, just with a different name (although, "we" have wrenches too, except the distinction is pretty vague), whilst a "rim" can have two distinct functions according to what your usage of the term is. And the use of spanner as a slang term is usually in the realms of personal insult, so again, it's completely disjunct.

There's no need for you to be so offensive, either; like it or not, this is an international forum, in the sense that it is what it is today because of an international userbase.
I'm still reeling from your massive insensitivity for, and brazen insult to, all the victims of the Second World War.
There's also a certain amount of irony, or even hypocrisy, to what you're saying, too.

Rim may well be "accepted" (by whom? In what capacity?), as you said, vernacular in "your" part of the world, and the use of slang is fine by me (so long as I can grasp the intended meaning), but just remember that that's all it is.

I think the term rim is as mentioned before slang for alloy wheel, which to be honest is what I call them
When I was looking for a change of wheel on my car I didnt google rims I googled Alloy wheels, the shops that sell autoparts have a sign saying 'Alloy wheels' not rims.

I've said the word rims but only in jest, I mean 1. I'm two shades whiter than chalk and 2. I'm British...

Going around calling alloy wheels 'rims' makes me sound rather silly.

Just my two cents... or pence should I say

I'm not even white, (well I am albino; it's complicated...) and I still think the term "rims" sounds rather silly...

You are the moron.

The FACT is - here is the US, you can walk into ANY store and buy RIMS.

You call them ask I want to buy a RIM and they KNOW RIM = WHEEL in the US. Just because all your across the pond buddies agree with you doesn't make it right. It's local slang and local SLANG is acceptable language.

EXACLY like sayyyy spelling of TYRES - well I could call anyone out as WRONG by our logic - but is ACCEPTED that local word TIRE=TYRE you 'moron' since you like name calling.....

How about those in Ireland that call Cigaretted = FAGS. That is accepted also...

Christ even merriam-webster defines it:

"Examples of RIM
There were chips on the rim of the plate.
the rim of the volcano
He bought stainless steel rims for his new car."

You are the moron. English language >You

p.s. I call them WHEELS, but nothing is wrong here is the US calling them RIMS. Same with your backward local talk. 👎

Exactly it's international so OPEN up and accept him using RIM = WHEEL and don't give him a hard time.
That anger is all of you jumping on him for accepable languague in ou country yet all of you who don't live even close or probably even been here say YOU know what RIM means here. Substitue 'Z' for 'S' here, like some words and YOU ARE WRONG.

RIM = WHEEL in the US. Agree with the logic we don't call hood bonnets and 99% of americans have no idea what one is. Don't argue against local slangs, you won't win an piss people off.

Ask for a fag from the wrong person in the US and you'll get punched in the face.

Oh and P.S.. all of you need to READ THE DICTIONARY it's not even slang any longer IT'S ACCEPTED.

Fun fact; the English people do not generally use the term "rims" with reference to the outermost part of a wheel. And we are the home of the English language :p
