Never!
Why is it that the soft gyres last longer than the hards?
Is weird coz I thought the hards would last longer

Yeah I don't think tyre durability is modelled very well. The hards probably do last longer, but its so much easier to get tyre scrub/slides with the harder compounds so they wear out quicker.

So there's no point in having them is there, coz with sorts you got more grip and they last a bit longer, I'm confused.com
It only seems to be in this game coz the previous ones they got it right

Yes, my bf & I noticed this right away about gt5. My bf knows about real life tires. He said that in gt4 the tire wear was more "right" to how it should work, and in gt5 - they just got it wrong. Way wrong.

There's several threads on this forum where people mention this.

It's most obvious in racing tires. But it seems to apply across the board.

In real life, hards would be less grippy, but would keep what grip they have for longer than softs.

In gt5...

Softs start out with more grip... take a long time to wear out... And have a last long plateau of being "okay", before they're useless.

Hards start out not too grippy at all. Take forever to "warm up". Then you get maybe one good lap, and BAM - they're GONE, and they go from gone to worse FAST.
Sometimes hards get worn out & bad before they even get good. So you go from cold to gone with no good point.

So in the end, you can wind up driving on worn softs a lot better & longer than you can on worn hards.

This is a serious flaw in the tire system in the game.

Yep, this has been ongoing since GT5 was released, not only the durability of the tyres but the fact that the whole tyre 'situation' seems screwed up.

When it's rains, (supposedly) slick tyres give more grip than 'wets' - when obviously it should be the other way round as slick tyres won't disperse water and would slide more, but they don't in GT5.

Previous GT's the difference between the tyre compounds were obvious (in terms of both grip and durability), not so in GT5, plus with the rain issue, it leaves alot of people speculating (make that arguing or disagreeing) what's going on.

The wet weather issue is a problem with the "grip reduction". Try driving in the wet in arcade or practice with grip reduction set to 'real'. Slicks handle like they should in those conditions:)
Does need to be fixed though.

Its simply that Aspec is not set to "real" grip. A catastrophic error on PDs part when espousing the game as the "real driving simulator". Should have been fixed from the first patch as a simple option like in online and practise mode. It's THERE in the game just not activated in Aspec.

It's all mad coz they spent all these years doing the game but they can't get the tyres right but they did in the other games!

Come on pd get it right or patch it!!!!!!!!!
