Well, one happened to me last night, I was on my trampoline later than usual (About 10:00) When I hear this very faint noise that I can't explain (It was like humming) coming from above me, so, as anyone would do, I looked up and I saw a bright light directly above me (About 5-6 miles in the sky) When I first saw it I thought it was a helicopter, but then I thought it couldn't be because it would have been making a lot more noise, now this bit threw me, as I was staring at it it appeared to be getting closer, although the noise didn't grow at all. But it was getting brighter so I assumed it was getting closer, all of a sudden it became a lot smaller and the noise grew, this scared me as the noise kept getting louder and louder and then it just disappeared, I mean everything the noise and the light. I went back inside and told my Dad about what I had just seen, he looked outside and simply said, "O.K, Son" and then I went onto the computer and then to bed.

I am a firm U.F.O believer myself, and my family are believers, and I really think I saw a U.F.O and I refuse to believe anything else that isn't sensible.

Has anyone else had an encounter with a U.F.O before? Or am I just loopy?

Loopy. :D

Edit: Well, they maybe true, they maybe not, I won't believe until I see one myslef.

Edit2: UFO as in Aliens I mean. :)

UFO = Unidentified Flying Object. This can be anything which you cannot identify.
UFO ≠Alien spaceship, since you would be able to identify it as an alien spaceship.

You "believe" in UFOs? What do you "believe" precisely?

Errmm..

The first was a definition. The second was not. Notice the "not equal to" sign?

If you can go "Oh look! An alien spaceship!" then you HAVEN'T seen a UFO, because you have just identified it as an alien spaceship. A UFO is something you cannot identify which is flying.

So, I ask again. What precisely do you "believe" about UFOs?

i thinks its just a general opinion formed into peoples mind that anything unusual should be put down to "aliens" because its accepted and left at that rather than really investigating the situation

I guess the thinking is that if it can't be identified as a plane, helicopter e.t.c. It must be something extra terrestrial.

I believe that U.F.O's aren't always 'Alien crafts' although however I do think I saw one of these supposed 'Crafts'

Now we've established that, why?

Why would an alien spaceship fly from... wherever, to buzz the skies over Brum? Have there been any other reported sightings of this event?

OK, I will be nice and not get into the UFO versus aliens debate. It is commonly known that UFO has become synonymous with aliens over the years, even if it isn't correct. I knew what you meant.

I do believe that there is probably intelligent life out there somewhere. The odds in a universe this big are definitely in favor of it.

Do I believe that they have visited ths planet? No. I used to when I was younger but now that I am older it has occured to me that someone capable of interstellar travel would have no need to hide from us. A government conspiracy to hide them also makes no sense to me since the advantages that open relations with such a species would provide would be amazing.

The only reason I can see for them hiding would be for recon for an invasion. So, if they are visiting us but hiding then they are a warlike species and we will all be screwed once they reveal themselves anyway.

I do believe that people see UFO's in it's literal, unidentified flying object, not necessarily aliens, aspect. I look at the technologies that we know about (SR-71, Stealth) and wonder what is being developed that we don't know about. Almost every military machine was top secret at one time or another. I am sure that when the first jet with afterburners were tested a bystander would have thought he was seeing some sort of alien craft. I am positive the first bystander to see a stealth thought that he was seeing aliens.

In America there had been enough sightings of the triangular shaped crafts in urban areas to cause someone to launch an investigation and they determined that it was most likely top secret craft, but of unknown origin. It raised questions however as to why something that was unknown was being "brazen" enough to be used near largely populated areas.

I don't think there were any other events linked to what I saw, although the power in our road was acting up that night if that has anything to do with it?

So it was dark outside right? And you saw a light 5-6 miles up.... that's pretty far up. Did it look like a star? Was the object moving in the sky?

You might have seen an iridium flair.

Edit: No seriously I just can't help myself...

Did you get anally probed?

Edit#2: Famine, is that a unicorn??

Edit#3: If you were jumping on your trampoline that late and it was dark, were there lights on the exterior of your house so that you could see what you were doing on the trampoline or were you jumping on it in the dark?

Yes, that explains the object being so small, high and the noise disapearing so suddenly.

It doesn't explain the noise, but honsetly the noise could have been a coincidence.

Only one light, and it's pretty dim

You see her too! You have been Chosen (with a big "C")!

Momentarily back on-topic... benzoboy - you believe you saw an alien spacecraft of which no other occurrences were reported over the second largest city in the UK? Just to get this straight.

So now you're saying it could have been a plane/helicopter? Which it more than likely was.

No I'm not saying that, and even if it was a Plane/Helicopter it would have made a lot more noise

There were two iridium flares last night over Birmingham. One was at 11:32 pm, the other was 11:41pm.

Is it possible you were on the trampoline that late?

Did it look like this?

I thought flares make a hissing noise (might sound like humming far away)? Unless that type doesn't?

An iridium flair is sunlight glinting off of an iridium satellite.

Not to far to believe it wasn't one of those but not to close to believe that it was, I never new iridium flares went that high though, and even if they did, it doesn't explain the constant noise/size level changes

Iridium flairs turn off rather quickly, and they grow in size as the spacecraft rotates.

Is it possible that the noise was simply a coincidence? That you were out at 11:30 and saw an iridium flair while something noisy happened?
