It's not as bad as cricket where journalists refer to "South African born Kevin Pietersen's" feud with "England's Andrew Strauss" who was born in Johannesburg. Even now Ben Stokes is just Ben Stokes, but when he couldn't buy a run he was a Kiwi.

There's also the Xhaka brothers in this tournament, one for Switzerland and one for Albania.
Majority of the Swiss team are from Albanian/Kosovo backgrounds.

Amazing how we are treated like a minnow in many English quarters and it took until the 91st minute to win the game.

If you score against the run of play and then put 11 men behind the ball for the majority of the game most teams would struggle I think.

Still they hung in well, I can see them getting a result against Russia. Maybe all the home nations will go through!

I think it also applies if a new country is formed for which you would also be eligible even if the original country you represented still exists - Ardien Gashi has played competitive games (qualifying for 2006 and 2014 World Cup) for Norway, but has since turned out for newbies Kosovo.

Sterling is truly awful, but second half was pretty good, just had strikers on to take the chances, winning goal was a decent move and finish.

The defence looks scared though and I think Weactive Woy will come unstuck against a decent team.

Don't bring the England and Wales cricket team into this. You know, the one which is controlled by the ECB, the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Yeah, but England and Wales is a bit of a mouthful (and don't forget that marketing). Money, money and more money is the key, not to mention how impossible it is for non-Test nations to become Test nations, daftest system in national sport. The ECB props up most counties, including Glamorgan (who are quite bad), cricket is an odd beast.

Random thought: Does anyone else think Mario Gotze looks quite like Tom Ingram?
I don't think he looks old enough to be playing professional football. What is he? About 12?

Like with pretty much all sports, I'd rather Wales had a separate team. Even if it was a crappy cricket team, it would be our crappy cricket team. But I fear we've drifted quite a way off topic.

Germany v Poland, dullest game of the tournament so far....
When you're invested, it hardly seems to matter (I thought it was a good quality match, Milik horror misses aside) and only the final result does.

Poland are on the verge of progressing through the group stages of a major tournament for the first time since 1986. To not qualify from here, we'd have to lose to Ukraine, NI would have to beat Germany, Germany would have to place ahead of us on goal difference or goals scored, and then four other 3rd place teams would have to earn 4 points and end up with a better goal difference than us. I like our chances.

Sterling is truly awful...
I can't help but laugh now at how Sterling (with his agent) was playing off Liverpool and Man City last year to big up his price like he was some kind of new Messi. It appears that ever since that move he's gone downhill fast. Or perhaps he was never up the hill to the value of £44 million to start with - I had my doubts at the time. Time will tell, and sometimes the goals are hard to come by, but ignoring luck and how the rest of the team play, he's just not getting into good positions on the pitch. Vardy and Sturridge came straight on and showed that being in the right place at the right time is critical for a striker.

Hodgson said this morning that he had some 'tough team decisions' to make now. No, if anything it's easier, isn't it?

Sterling is truly awful.

If England were to Leave the Euro 2016 tournament on June 23rd (the day after the group stage ends) the value of Sterling is likely to plummet - but I think England will Remain in.

I've heard the exchange rate is Dier.

Sterling? Wasn't he the one the fans were calling greedy? When that was put to him in an interview he said he was not greedy. He was then asked what the holdup in contract talks was. His answer? I want more money.....

The Italians are playing the psych game again saying that they fear Zlatan. Just like they feared Belgium.

Uh-huh.

And, of course, they beat Sweden like clockwork. 1-0, goal by Eder. With the whole deal about Kunos getting Porsche for Assetto Corsa as well, I can safely say I'm proud to be Italian at the moment.

I still think France will win Euro 2016, though.

Nice finish by Perisic, just seen Eder's winner for Italy v Sweden, top class 👍

Massive respect for Croatia's captain Srna, who flew home for his fathers funeral, got back in time for the match and still captains the team today, he was in tears during the anthems....

Czech Pen makes it 2-2 in the 93rd minute!!!!!!!!
