I find it hard to believe that Kane is our best set-piece taker, I've watched Boro play a few times this season and even Grant Leadbitter's deliveries are far better.

This really does make you realise how detrimental the money in the Prem is on a long term basis.

Where does the national team go from here?

Implementation of the international rugby rules?

What do you mean? Kane, Vardy and Sturridge would have torn this team apart for their clubs.
Because they have the players around them they are comfortable playing around. International football relies on understanding each team member and being able to stand individually at the same time. Iceland had character to succeed - England did not.

I don't think it has to do with foreign players in the Premier League. I think it's down to poor coaching.

I don't know why Roy got the job in the first place, and I think his questionable calls in this tournament like playing Rooney, Kane taking corners etc. meant that the only way he'd still be in the job if he made the final.

This result will go down in history as the worst performance by a team of super-rich individuals (to date anyway), and will/should spell the end of a good few international careers.

In all fairness, Marcus Rashford was excellent - the only player with any sense of what it takes to win a 🤬 game of football - and if that is not shameful enough for the other players in the team, I don't know what is.

In all seriousness, I am shocked but not surprised by this performance - and I feel sorry for my friends in England who are all too used to this kind of abject display from their national side.

Earlier tonight I was asked in jest about where Scotland was in this tournament - we didn't qualify because our team isn't quite good enough against tough opposition - we had Germany, Poland and Ireland in our group, and narrowly missed out on qualifying after some spirited performances but not quite enough talent. Certainly, Scotland has had its fair share of abject displays too, but in recent years it has come down to a lack of ability in depth rather than a lack of desire.

England failed tonight not because of a lack of talent, but because they are not a team - and they are hopelessly disorganised. Even half way through the 2nd half, England players looked like they had given up and were almost strolling away from tackles they missed or incomplete passes... compare and contrast that to, well, just about anyone else in the tournament.

The ITV pundits are trying hard not to play the 'they're overpaid' card, but unfortunately I think that is exactly what the problem is... sure, they want to win whatever game they may play on the day, but the fact that England cannot play even remotely at the same standard as Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Iceland, Wales and... dare I say it even Scotland, must have some other kind of explanation. The entire team tonight - with the exception of Rashford - should never put on an England shirt again.

Shearer just admitted that he thinks it might be. He said "We are not as good as we think we are" and conceded that the perceived brilliance of the Premier League is heavily influenced by an overreliance on foreign players and managers.

It's six of one, half a dozen of the other. England aren't as good as they think they are and it's time there was a long, long, long analysis into the structure of the national team. Especially the decision makers at the FA.

How many poor coaches does it take though? The management always gets the flak, that's football, but you have to wonder if there's something a bit more to it.

Spot on, apart from the bolded. Especially the cheeky bit about Scotland. ;)

Blame the immigrants!

We are as good as we think we are, on paper behind the likes of Spain, Germany, Argentina and a few others but in tournaments most of our players haven't even got the b**** to go for it against Championship/League One level players which is what our opponents in this tournament have consisted largely of.

Perhaps we should leave the EU and then we'd have to rely more on home grown players in our leagues.

Shearer did slag the FA off as well which was nice. They never get anywhere near the stick they deserve from the pundits.

We always make it to the tournaments, which always surprises me because England haven't been a "TEAM" for many years now. That's the problem and why we can't go deep into these tournaments.

The poor performance of England runs in Women's football too, which I find more interesting anyway. I think the next Euro championship is in Norway next year. So will look out for that result.

I won't deny that the amount of foreign players in the league hurts the national team, but I believe that this English team has the talent to be mixing it up with the best teams in the world.

England play like a team who have never seen each other before(apart from players at the same club) but you don't see Germany or Spain playing that way. A good coach should spend time getting the players to be familiar with each other. I believe in team chemistry and Germany and Spain have achieved it with Lowe and Del Bosque. That has little to do with the state of the premier league, Germany have players that play for rival clubs, who play different styles but have great chemistry on the field.

The only teams as disjointed as England are Turkey, Russia and Holland. Fun fact, they also all have poor coaches,

Especially the cheeky bit about Scotland. ;)
Aye, I was pushing my luck with that bit :p

But Wales...? That is perhaps a matter of opinion... but that England can't play to Iceland's standard is a matter of all too apparent fact.

poor coach

LIES! SLANDER!

I'm calling Danny.

But seriously, it's not just the coach who is a suckjob. It's the whole upper management at the KNVB. They're a bunch of F tards only caring about getting their faces on tv and their asses in the fluffy seats.

I was going to say what a night it has been but really its what a day it has been, we have seen Italy put in a superb performance against Spain to knock the current European Champions out, and then tonight we have seen the perhaps shocking turn of event that has been England being humiliated whilst crashing out to tiny Iceland and their manager quitting in the process, unbelievable day...

...goodnight people :)

How suspiciously similar to the English FA.

How suspiciously similar to the English FA.

This is after the Dutch failure to qualify for France.

Ten seconds into the clip a fuzzy grey haired tool starts talking, he talks about how they (upper management) discussed extensively, about how they now should go on, how the Dutch squad needs to be rebuild towards the qualification for the 2018 WC, and then at 34 seconds the question is asked: what do we need to do in the future?

His answer is just brilliant, hence the reaction that follows.

'as of now, we need to win every game'

That is the type of person that runs the KNVB

This man has a degree in agriculture, worked for a breakfast cake factory.

Good for Iceland! I heard a stat on ESPN2 that said Iceland has as many pro footballers as the state of Rhode Island, and they have a population the size of Leicester City. Don't know how true either of those stats are, but either way, it's amazing to see Iceland do so well.

The entire country is populated by 333000 inhabitants.
