Just getting your head around high-definition? Mastered your 720p, 1080i and 1080p? Just bought your new HD ready TV?
Well, developers are already working on the next generation of HD technology.
Ultra High-Definition Video has 16 times the resolution of the current 'standard' HDTV. In other words, four times the definition both horizontally and vertically.
The system also boasts 22.2 multichannel sound - whatever the heck that is. They describe it as 'big and immersive as the screen'.
It's still very much in the experimental stage; there are only two UHD cameras in the world. Even so, 20 years down the line, those clever bods at NHK Japan believe this will be standard in homes. By then, of course, we'll have Gigabit broadband too.
NHK is working on enhancements to our current HD. By adding a filter adaptor in front of HDTV, they have come up with...
...3D HDTV.
And not a flimsy pair of red and green glasses in sight. We hope.
Innovation, eh?
