The flames are real, watch the nurburg clip (aventador, 458, mp4 etc) all do it because of the high revving, high pressure and short exhaust system due to it being mid engined. Its the high temp titanium exhaust and special cat causing the blue flame rather than a normal orange flame.I've forgotten why they wear the clothing they bought with all the tags on, is it because its supposed to look like they stole it?
Was an OK episode, was it me or did Aaron Paul sound stoned or is that how he talks? Those kit cars they made for the film look sweet but not all that much cheaper than the real thing at $300,000 a pop! I wonder if they get the real body shells or they are fiberglass.
The cycling thing was just silly and the wasted too much time on it. The AMG A-Class is stupid money especially when it looks like your driving a DS3 from the back!
The over use of blue flame CGI in the 918 segment got really irritating, yes we know the exhausts are up there! The rest of the flim was pretty nice and I've always liked the Yas Marina circuit. It would be hard to choose between it and the P1 but the fact its also a convertable out of the box would swing it for me. Looks like a really fun car as Hammond looked like he was loving it.

Remember the aventador film? Same thing.
True but doesn't stop them adding microphones around the car with the flames being a focus point. Sound booms are very good at catching engine noise, its the bang and crackling i like to hear, even on my own car. Why show a none flaming engine and exhaust. No other car has the exhaust up that high (car wise) even the mp4 and p1 are only half way up. The design of it is awesome and apart of what make its image.I know blue flames come out of most of these cars but they do not come out like that with that consistancy, if you look closely it appears to have been CGI enhanced and in every shot looked the same. Also audio effects seem to have been added.
The Aventador segment was a lot more realistic because it was real and wasn't post processed. TG always do these film tricks to add drama.

They would at full chap, normal throttle lift may just be a flame out and low street driving (low pressure and heat) would be clear (plus electric drive) and track/ high speed driving would cause exhaust to become very hot burning out the fuel and cat content between 6-8k revs producing that constant fast flowing flame rather than a normal flame out (think back to Ascari A10 ep)I agree, having them mounted up there is a massive part of what makes the design so stunning but in reality they would be popping and spitting with the flames flickering out... not the straight blue blur 'starship Enterprise at warp' effect like TG showed!
They weren't exactly subtle.Am I the only one who got the joke aimed at Piers Morgan?![]()
I think I heard mention at the end of the show that they will be doing a special episode featuring the P1 and the 918. Not too certain as my girlfriend decided to talk over that bit..Bit bummed they didn't do the versus lap but a very good episode, the cycling bit dragged on for a bit but I think they had too as Aaron Paul was a bit boring.
am I the only one who would have the 918 all day long?

Should of put the Leon FR is the mix too. Aeems to be there main rival in the hatchback world, every car mag does the same pairing.Good episode, the Cycling segment was a lot better than I expected, VW v BMW was a copy of the one they did years ago with the Beemer 1 series, I actually thought Aaron Paul was a really good guest and the Porsche bit was also good but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't do the P1/918 power laps last night...but anyway it was a strong end ot the normal series..
Uhh...Thats because there based off the same chassis so good to compare.
Audi, lets the one. But still the A3 comes in 4wd and the TT is rear wheel drive so would still work. Long day and brain fart, edited.Uhh...
Volkswagen Group (owning Audi) in Berlin and BMW in Munich, lifelong competitors of each other, use the same chassis as a base for the front (and four) wheel drive Golf and the rear wheel (and all) wheel drive 1-series?
What engineering witchcraft is at play there - and what could possibly compel them to do that?
The only thing that shares a chassis with the 1-series is the 2-series. Whereas the Golf shares its Volkswagen Group MQB platform with the Audi A3, Seat Leon and Skoda Octavia.
And Golf Plus.
And Scirocco.
And SEAT Altea, VW Passat and VW Touran.
And the next Audi TT. And probably the next VW Tiguan, SEAT Toledo and Audi Q3. And Audi Q1.
Both the A3 and TT are front or four wheel drive - and utilise a Haldex-based four wheel drive system (badged as quattro) that is front-biased.Audi, lets the one. But still the A3 comes in 4wd and the TT is rear wheel drive so would still work. Long day and brain fart, edited.
Aren't they racing to TopGear Live? They were talking about that Yesterday, don't think they'll do anything Top Gear related in Sydney though.
