underestimated or suprisingly good cars

We all know which are the "good cars" but there are 1000+ cars in the database. I have around 500 but always use the same 20 or so cars.

To mix it up a bit I created a 2nd account to start from scratch with periodically, and it forces me to try out simple cars and build them up with limited funds.

Sometimes I can get a car which completely defies expectations and I'd like to open a thread to try and put together an ongoing list of such "gems" on an ongoing basis.

For example, this morning I bought as a first car a TOYOTA STARLET Glanza V '97. I was not expecting anything from this car, but it had a tasty 133bhp and a weight of only 920kg, stock, so I thought I'd give is a go. It's brilliant :-) - I have specced it up and tuned it so now it will hold it's own in the Supercar challenge online. I managed 8th position with just 459pp. It's a FF car, but it handles REALLY well with neglible understeer unless you really push a brake/turn manoeuvre. It's kept me occupied for a good couple of hours now, and I'm trying it out on various tracks and in various races :-)

So if any of you stumble accross any such super surprises, please do keep this thread alive. I for one would be pleased to be pointed in the right direction to dust off some of the stock I have sitting idle in my garage :-)

(ps... makes a bit more sense as to why there are 1000 cars potentially available and so many "low end" and mid-level models)

Dunno if its a surprise as it should be good but the RUF 3400s (Porsche Boxster) is an amazing 500PP car and can match them bloody BMW M3 CSL/GTR's every man and his dog uses now!

Also the S2000 R1 Is a great machine, its actually a road car with decals and wing which is non adjustable, but try getting a host online to let you use it as a road car, not happening.

... just search and you will find these threads, there you got many other ideas for "hidden gems"

its really a problem here everyone creates a new thread because of lazzieness

OT, i give the Toyota Sera '92 a definite thumbs up. It's FF, but man does it go, even won a couple 450pp online races in it against the more predictable impreza's, camaro's & evo's :)

While i'm at it, the hyundai Tuscani is another brilliant FF, mines Matte Black and hearing what people online say as the Matte Black "Girls car" flies past them in the corner's is clasic. Oh, and did i mention it makes around 550bhp?

Hidden gems I found:
P: Lotus Esprit ( It's a car I drive with and drift with without any stupid/bizarre chamber angles).
S: Subaru Rally Car '03 (Good entry drift car, good handling on rain, dirt and snow).
P: McLaren F1 with suspension tune (secret tune).
P: Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car (weaker, heavier, funnier to win in than the other LM cars).

Thanks Ecchi. What's the "secret tune" of which you speak for the F1? I love this car & would be interested to hear more!

Ref the GT LM Spec II - Brilliant. Great fun.

Will check out the other 2, dont know them well at all.

Thanks Phil - I have memories also of some serious fun in an S2000. Will check the R1.

Ref the Boxster; nice1 - i always think of the more powerful Rufs before this one - eg CTR2, et al. Thanks!
 
Sz, I GT confused, it's my accord that makes 500+ bhp, the Tuscani is still brilliant tho :(....

If you want a Hyundai that does make 500+ bhp, try the Clix. I think it's a prize car, but he'll does it move. And jt sounds a bit like an f1 car :)

Judd Hybrid is also a nice car.

the Jag XKR us pretty good, can be tuned to over 600, and another is the 300ZX from the dealership another that handles great, cheap and rather powerful!

I took the Judd hybrid for my 24H Le Mans :sly:
It was so fun.
But only six hour sleep through the whole 24h was extremely exhausting.
 
I love the Amuse Carbon R34...it sticks to the track and turns so very quickly and smoothly as well.

Oh so true!! And this car is soooo fun on the Nurburging!

Can't believe nobody's mentioned the Toyota Trueno Apex,
and also the Lotus Esprit 350 special edition is a wicked shredder!

TVR V8S. Sounds meaty and drifts nicely. It was the first standard car that really surprised me. Tuned it to around 400-500 hp and I love it!
 
This can be arguable but to me it is the Nissan GTR V Spec. We raced on the streets of Monaco with no limits (except 700pp below to keep away LMP/F1/X1) And what was even worse was everyone used McLaren F1s, Corvette ZR1 RMs, Enzos, ZZIIs, Veyrons, Italias, and SLR McLarens. I was last in the grid, but when we started, I quickly gained the lead in front of everybody but the Veyron. Although I didn't really need to do much because the Veyron's massive understeer made it hit the wall at the first corner. After that, it was an easy 5 lap win. 15 second gap, and the guy in 2nd was in a McLaren F1.

And people always tell me that the GTR sucks...

The big heavy Mercedes cars are really good. Not used them on a long run, I imagine they would just eat up the tyres.

The GTR corners insanely well, however, I slaughter the Bugattis in a Lamborghini ****ach on that track!
 
Full tuned Dodge Viper. I first saw that 930 HP monster in GT3 :p
 
I really like the little BMW 318i Touring car. It's deff not the fastest car in the game, but it's so fun and easy to drive. Take it to the ring and watch much faster/more powerfull cars vanish in you rearview mirror :trouble:
 
I was really surprised with a TVR V8S, I beat some good race cars at the Dream Car Champioship with it, lost to the Jaguar LMP on the last straight at Monza with it

I don't think the ZZII is underrated. Many people use it online.

Some cars that don't get much respect include:

Spirra
Hommell
Mercury Cougar XR7
Dodge SRT4 (some people have discovered this little speed demon)

I think they can all be setup nicely and surprise people

I agree about the Hommel. It is a fun little car, that tunes well.
