When debating and discussing GT5 on these forums, it becomes really apparent that there are several groups of different players who are drawn to the GT franchise. I want to find out how players divide up between the types of GT fan I have observed, based on their expectations, things they like about GT5, and things they feel are lacking.

What kind of GT5 player are you? Choose the category that best describes you.

------------------------------------------------------

The Completionists - They want all-golds and 100% status. Level 40 and 40. Every PSN trophy acquired is a little bit of serotonin released. If you had a bugged regional version of GT2 and couldn't get 100% due to a game bug, it still annoys you a little. The shorter A-Spec mode has been a letdown to these players especially, and the poorly executed ''story mode'' portion of the game (a natural progression through offline races) has them irked.

The Collectors - They want close to or entirely all the cars in the game. The lack of Premium cars in GT5 has been the biggest letdown about the game for these players. These players lament the fact that they have to grind the same track over and over in order to purchase that beautiful LMP racer or classic beast. A lot of their time is spent happily alone at night, rushing along the 'Ring in Hotlap mode and tweaking setups for every car.

The Online Racers - Their biggest want of GT5 and future games is as a platform for great online racing. The length of the offline A-spec is less important compared to the tools Polyphony gives players to matchmake and host online racing events.

Online baby. Everything else gets repetitive and boring. I put at least 40 hours a week into online racing, and it NEVER, NEVER, gets old. The racing these days is better than it ever has been.

I voted for neither of them. I, actually, just play the game. When I get around to it, I complete Events that I want to. I haven't finished all the licenses, haven't started Endurance, I play online casually, and I JUST started collecting the standard cars. It's going great. I don't know what category I should be in. Casual Enthusiast, I'd say.

I don't grind. I just play. And the lack of Premiums is a downer for me, but I don't care for them like I used too. I see the standards for what they are now. I mean, we all used to play the other GTs. Standard cars are standard to the GT series. I'm just saying. I don't worry about which is which anymore.

I guess I'm closest to a collector, but I don't want close to all of the cars in the game, just the high performance and rare cars.

I am none of the three. Your explanations of the three categories are extremes of player types.

I am the same type of player as another_jakhole, I just play the game from time to time...that´s it. I do nothing to get 100%, all cars or spend much time online. Just play it and see, what happens.

Collector, I like completing checklists. :D

I would say I'm a completionist but I have hit the wall with the Vettel challenge and accepted it.

I've always wanted to finish a GT game... couldn't get 100% in any of the previous games... so the stupid-simple-short-easy A-Spec mode of GT5 is my opportunity to do so... However, I'm not finishing B-Spec, getting Gold on all the licenses or even finishing the Special Events section... to me they are lame & useless extra feats. in the game... PD should have worked more on other areas... like "real" rally events, more A-Spec races, more premium cars and RM cars...

Now guess which one I am ;)

Yeah, I should have added a ''casual'' category, agreed.

Although completing the game is among my goals, and i have just about finished everything except for some b-spec events and a-spec endurances, it's all about online racing for me. I could race online for hours and not get bored. Chatting with fellow racers, sharing tunes, pitting one car against another. The game-play is endless with online racing.

Online Racer / Collector here...

Its all about the online, but also want everything the game has to offer in so much as I now have all the cars at least once, many doubled so I can have a stock and a tuned one. Also have almost all the paints... only 50 or so more to get.

Licenses, Aspec/Bspec Career and and Trophies don't hold any interest for me, all too easy tbh.

Online driver/racer here. Just gimme all the cars and upgrades (or the cash for them), and I'll put 'em to good use. :)

I'm mostly a collector type, however

Just isn't true (for me).

You left me out buddy. I'm an A-spec RACER. I want a REAL career mode where it's a challenge to beat the AI. So I'm very disappointed with the AI. Currently I've challenged myself to complete everything. Then it's on to online racing exclusively.

No multiple option select in poll? There's a distinct lack of understanding of the community right there :D

In some ways, I'm all three of them but in some ways I'm none of them. I wanna get to 100%, I wanna collect all the cars and I wanna do good online racing but I can't complete the whole game in this situation, some cars I want simply aren't available, and I am an absolute noob compared to some and maybe even most racers on here. Essentially, I am a wannabe at all of them :boggled:

None of the above.

In GT4, I was a completionist, and a completionist to the max.
Because the game had that noted for GT quality, appeal, draw and unique A-spec challenge.

GT5 is more of a herky-jerky hodge-podge of awkward WTF encumbrances.
There's no mystery, nothing to inspire or induce desire to complete. Its drudgery.
Therein lies the key ingredient missing in GT5.
That delicate magical balance of challenge, progression, credits, events, and features that draw the player into and through the game.
Creating that romantic desire in the player to proceed with anticipation and a sense of accomplishment.

Even with the improved physics, graphics, and other stuff, for me in GT5 its just not there.
The thrill is gone baby.

Online has its benefits, but for me it can never replace the advantages of a good quality single player game.

I'm definitely not a collector, even though there is a certain degree involved, that goes with completion.

Online racer, i'm minorly a collector but only of certain cars: Ginettas, Clio Cup Cars etc. I want to complete the game but i'm too bothered about wasting time on the 24hr events.

I said 'Collector', even though I'm not, i just like to get cars, tune them up a bit and drive them around the Nurburgring, end of story.

I buy lots of cars and am very passionate about some of them but still I spend most of my time online. I just wish there were better ways to find servers and more variety in the powerlimits (though for this I can only blame myself, I should just make my own server and build up a community of lower powered car racers but I just complain :D). In the UCD I often see dozens of cars I'd love to have but I realise there's no way in hell do I ever get to race them online... but I buy them anyway.

If i'd seen the question a couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have picked any of them. But when I checked my profile the other day and saw I was up to 85%, that changed my mentality.

I'm going to try and complete everything in the game, and that includes the Vettel and 24hr endurance, which I'm sure will delight everybody in the house :)

I'm an online racer through & through, the rest of the game I could quite happily live without.

👍

online racer, its all i do. still not completed a spec lol
love collecting race and rally cars but i USE them!

i love the game, i enjoy online racing with friends and meeting new friends in random rooms.

None of the above.

I have no intension of ever completing the game, especially if endurance race saves are never implemented, and probably not even if they do.

I don't want all the cars and probably haven't driven a third of the ones i do own.

I very rarely drive online.

Can we have another poll option?
