There are several forms of drifting.

SPiDEY is correct; using the e-brake to "drift" a ff car is one of those forms.

drift
v. float along with the current; wash away, carry away

See, in order for a boat to drift, the current must be pushing it. In an RWD car, the rear wheels would be the equilvalent to the current. In an FWD, there is nothing pushing the car forward, you are just locking the rear wheel and, using the speed you already had, loosing the back end through the corner and that's not drifting, you are just fishtailing, ass-dragging, sliding or whatever you wanna call it (I'm sure there is a lot of words to describe this in the racing scene).

My english suck, but I think you can get the idea. :p

Ahhh sorry... My mistake trying to make a simple analogy, but meditate about it for a minute or two and you shall understand what I meant. Just keep in mind that drifting is used to describe a particular racing style that evolved in Japan's touge running. You can't just go sideways on a corner and call that a drift, that is not what it is supposed to mean, rather, call it a fishtailing or a slide. :)

FF's can and do drift, I have a video on my pc of two Subaru Rex's drifting using the handbrake (they only have about 60bhp as well!). Also (and I'll probably regret mentioning this), in Intial D Shoji Shingo drifts an EG6 I do believe........

yes it is possible but i find the moment you hit the gas it just grips, if you let the tires go red, it shoud be easyer IMO at least.

Yes it is easier when the tyres are worn but I managed to do it without having to do that.

The New Beetle was a feet in its own for me as well. Its lack of horsepower and huge amount of weight proved to be a real problem when i tried to drift it. I had to use sim tires for it.
