Have you ever bought a car with a color you wanted for another car, but you didn't obtain the paintchip?
No, spare me the speech of two-tone colors, colors with stripes. I'm talking about regular colors you usually get the paintchip from.
This happened to me. McLaren F1. Carbon Black. Appearantly this color is unobtainable.

All McLaren colors are unobtainable. Licensing... :irked:

Haha that's kinda odd.
Luckily, with over 1200 cars there's even the possibility to find a color clone but with another name ( or listed under a different category it might appear)
Edit: i always thought that some paintchips would even be "standard" compared to others but it's only an impression

I believe that you can not obtain a paintchip when the car has stripes or multiple colors. I did want to get "gotta have it green" from the boss 302 mustang.

I have been looking for Matt Orange forever. Anyone know of a way to obtain it or is it a case of waiting for it to show-up in a Seasonal?

Should have a list of them.
I know I would like to see which colours are not good and which would be good.

Most vision GT car colors I think? You dont obtain them

Is there any way to know if a car comes with a paint chip before you buy it? I've asked this question on another thread but someone here might know.

I'm pretty sure that when the colour has no name, like the Ruf's ones, you don't get the paint chip. But this does not answer your question, sorry. If there is no way to know, that would deserve to be improved in a future update.

....This paintchip system is a bother. Man, why can't we just buy the paint chips we want separately from the car purchases?
........Oh, off topic. Sorry...:embarrassed:

As mentioned earlier, some colors do have names and you cannot get them (the McLaren colors were the case in point earlier in the thread).

I know, it's mentionned in the OP ;). I only meant to add another info.

What we need is a way to know whether the paint chip is obtainable or not. And also, if we already own it or not 👍. That could be added in a future update.

@Aussie_HSV, as an addition to your list of VGT cars and paint chips i have got this:
I got the colour RED #764 from the PEUGEOT VGT, it is a solid colour, but looks matte, but when you try to apply it to an other car it becomes a matte black with no reflection (at least at the paintshop). I think that all the peugeot colours are available, but i don't know how they will be applied on other cars, because the red paint is the only matte looking.

@pokemonfan58 would you like a huge list of paintchips called --- (that is how many unobtainable are named)
For colours like 'gotta have it green' i agree with you. Those should be obtainable.

Another solution for the paint chip problem with cars that habe stripes is giving us the paint chip for the body colour and a paint chip for the stripe's colour. And if let us modify the stripes independent would also be nice.

I actually tested this out some time ago. All the Peugeot colors can be obtained, but they all look the exact same. It's almost like a black, flat texture with no reflections or anything. It looks especially weird when smoke overlays the paint job during a burnout or whatever you do to make smoke.
I'm thinking that the Peugeot colors were never supposed to be obtainable, but PD done goofed and never patched it.
You can make some pretty interesting looking cars with these paint chips. Try putting them on cars with stripes. ;)
I think this is the only shade of black, that when applied to a car with stripes, gets accompanied by black stripes rather than white stripes.

Sshh, don't tell everyone. I love this glitch and reeeally don't want it fixed. :P

I'd absolutely LOVE to find a "venom green" somewhere, but alas no luck thusfar. All i've found is it playing second fiddle to black on a Bugatti and also one of the spaceship looking cars from the VGT series ( I forget the car, sorry ). Anyone else happened across "venom green" as of yet ? Elsewhere on GTPlanet, a forum member mentioned "GT Fluorescence 004" as possibly being the closest ( but not enough ) match in the game at the moment. Does anyone know what car comes with that colour ? Sounds like a colour one can only win during a monthly update online challenge or something ?

Other close matches, I've seen mentioned ( thanks to member lbpomg95 ) are:

Verde Mela from the Stratos

Fantasiagrun from the VW Lupo

Isotope Green from the Evora

Maybe a bit of that too... I just want a really dark black with a black secondary colour though.
Would love it if you could make tell me how to do the glitch by private conversation. I promise I won't tell anyone.
