I read an interview that stated that they don't want viewers comparing and rating it against TGUK.
While it's a lot the same, it's ours. It's meant to be unique.

Although I think Pizzati is a weed.

Well I managed to watch TGAU earlier today and after all the 50+minutes watching it I was really left disappointed. All that anticipation was for nothing..... 👎 Not to say the show was bad, but as I said earlier this is nothing like original TGUK. The contents of the show was good, especially the Porsche 911 S PDK review, and the soft roader test was not that bad, but I think the news section was a little dull. They tried to make jokes about it and I was watching there and just can't understand what make them and the crown laugh.... (okay, maybe because I'm not an Aussie I couldn't understand the joke..... fair enough) Also, the biggest dissapoinment was when they introduce the power lap board, which had so many pointless cars going on there (a HUMMER S-T-R-E-T-C-H!!!?) that was not even tested or reviewed, just ran a lap around the track and got their times stick onto the wall.

The biggest failure of the show was when they introduce the "What Were They Thinking?" wall (which is something similar to the Cool Wall I guess) and I just gave myself a big facepalm. I mean, it was such a stupid idea that it just isn't funny. But just like the Cool Wall, it does has a purpose..... (but I had to disagree with them putting the Mitsubish Legnum there. :grumpy:) As for the host, I think they are considered a good team even though the 1st episode was a bad start for them. Charlie Cox does have good personality in him and could host the show no problem, but he needs to find his own line instead of acting all "Clarkson" like and stuff. Steve Pizzati did have some potential as well and unlike "Hammond" he could drive properly. :p Warren Brown was really funny at some parts of the show and really helps the show from becoming too boring to say the least. Although he is not entirely based of May, his "suicidal" segments of the show was just....... awesome.

All in all, I think the 1st episode of TGAU isn't that bad but like many has said it could improve on later episodes. Hopefully it does become a success. 👍 Now just need to wait for TGUS and see how awful or good does the pairing of Adam Carolla, Tanner Foust, and Eric Stromer is gonna be like..... :irked:

I wonder how we can contact them to let them know what they did right and wrong.💡

I started watching, but gave up about 15 minutes in. The soft roader bit was alright, but I thought the news was dreadful. As was the Lambo bit actually. Presumably Warren Brown has been told to behave like James, which is fine, but he's failing miserably. "I think it looks like the inside of a jet fighter" - what the hell was that? That sounds like something my mother would say about a Vauxhall Vectra. Or "Hey, I found the fuel filler" - just... be quiet, please.

I'm not quite sure whether they're trying to be like new Top Gear or old Top Gear, to be honest. Either way, they haven't managed it.

I'm sure it gets a little better, but I just couldn't bear any more horific jokes. I don't think I even smiled once at any point.

Although I think Pizzati is a weed.

I dunno about that, but during the Lambo bit it felt like he needed to be on ritilin.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that part. :banghead: It was quite messed up when they did the LP560 part. I mean, they sound like they tried to appraise the car but makes it sound oh so boring...... Also, I think the part where Brown said (or whoever said it) about the "fuel filler" part was mocking how Clarkson fails to find the fuel filler button in the Superleggera in the 1st episode in season 10. (well I thought that was the case anyhow.......) But yeah, I think they need to stop acting like TGUK and get into their own zone....

I think Charlie Cox was easily the weakest link of the trio. Definitely the least funny. Almost comes across as a father figure. The other two have potential, me thinks.

;)

He hit rev limiter in a LP560 just after start up in the studio, nothing TGUK ever done :p

Is there anywhere I can watch this episode online? This is the first US epsiode you guys are talking about right?

Thanks :)

Next episode on tonight. I don't care if the show is badly represented tonight, seeing factory built Aussie cars thrashed on TV is a once in a decade event.

This epside was ok, some jokes were funny, many were forced and came off weird. The Ford vs Holden wasn't all that good, I thought it would be better.

All awesome! What Were They Thinking could probably be dropped, but I loved the show. Better go and warm up the tyres.:p

Ok, top is top gear, but should there maybe be another thread for AU top gear now it's kicked off to prevent it being mixed up with BBC top gear?

Done.

THe first episode was so ordinary, I forgot to watch the second. All I can say is they could only get better, see if I remember to watch next week.

(Excuse)I do have two young boys to keep my evenings fully occupied.

Well, I recall reading that the show took a massive hit in ratings for its second week.

See, the thing about motoring in Australia is that you lean to one side of our artifical racial dispute: Ford or Holden. While people say they don't care, there is a subconscious tendency for people to lean to one side or the other. For example, when I'm watching the V8s, I don't care who wins provided I get to see some good racing ... but if I were forced to choose one side or the other, I'd lean towards the Blue Oval.

And that was my biggest fear with Top Gear Australia: that it was going to be biased in favour of one marque. And given that Holden is still (falsely) seen as being Australian Made (we have an 'Australian Made' campaign attached to all products that are made in the country and wholly owned by companies within our borders; Holden don't qualify for it, but I hear a lot of people say it's Australian Made), a lot of people support it. I guess I was worried that one or more of the presenters would always favour the Red Lion, kind of like the way IGN have a tendency to give the XBox version of a muli-platform game a higher for no apparent reason.

I was hoping for it to be better this week but it wasn't. The Ford/Holden battle was weak and boring, as was the challenge. I don't know I can see loads of potential but the show is still just way to gimmicky I think. I'm still lost at what the track looks like and what the
"star in a reasonably priced car" car is.

Also what in gods name is a Proton?

So did anyone watch this today or what? I missed it again like usual, but apparently it was OK, any feedback from GTP'ers?
