How in the name of all that's holy can anyone think Ahn Doh is funny. I was cringing watching him on the show. Excruciating.

;)

All I can say is I have been pining to see an Elfin in decent action ever since they were unveiled, THANKYOU TOP GEAR OZ.:D Strangely, I see the Streamliner there, and I'm not sure if the other was a Clubman or T5. The T5 is supposedly far more user friendly and their latest creation, so I'd find it strange if the T5 isn't on the show. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them breaks the lap record either.👍 If anyone can man handle the Elfin's speed out of it, it's The Stig.:D

Good sir, you are thinking of I. I'm a little suss on the wagon beating the sedan, despite it being manual over auto it shouldn't overcome 150kg in an already heavy car. Must've been good circumstances for the wagon.

Manual gives greater control on deceleration, allowing OzStiggy to use the Clubby's engine braking and such. That would compensate for 150Kg extra lard, especially if it makes the car more planted on the road. But I loved seeing the RS6 just smash the Clubby, what a beast that Audi is!!

You need to see him live, he's 10 times better in person and the only true "Asian Bogan" I've seen. His skit with the Chupa Chup is a classic. 👍

But if you thought that interview on TGA was excruciating, you should see him when he's hosting his sports quiz show "The Squiz", he comes out with some really lame jokes in that show. :yuck:

I'll showcase some of his better stuff. Here he is on "The Footy Show". ;)

I can't find his chupa chup sketch! :( Ohwell.

After I saw him on Top Gear AU I would never go see him live.

Oh dear Lord....

That's like someone telling you they absolutely hate potato salad, and you reply "Yeah, but mine is really good, you'll love it".

Absolutely horendous... Honestly, I can safely say he is one of the least funny comedians (popular comedian at that) I have seen in the last 5 years. You couldn't pay me to sit through that.

;)

Not a bad show, it was weird to see them comparing that Holden estate to the RS6 since the Audi was way ahead of it in everyway. Seems like Aussie Ford would have something to compare to the Holden.

The Honda Odyssey you guys get is so much better looking than the ones we get here in the states.

The priest drifting wasn't bad, but having religious folks do crazy stuff has been done on the UK Top Gear.

Actually no, Ford doesn't have anything remotely sporty in terms of wagons, FG wagon is a while away and has no guarantee of getting any sports models. Even though they were comparing them on certain aspects, I don't think they were really trying to see which was better, which was always going to see the RS6, I got that impression at least. I think they were just trying to showcase one "affordable" FAST wagon, and one ÜBER wagon.

Do you guys still have the larger one that looks more like an MPV? I don't know, but I saw one of those down the road from me with an American Flag and a Left Hand Drive sticker. We used to have ones like that (but not so big) but the smaller longer one came along and we haven't looked back.

Yeah, there's been alot of things done on TG UK first. You also have the Amphibious cars and from the current episode, drifting trucks. But I'd watch the boringest, most unfunny person I know do burnouts in a truck before I switch over to Neighbours or Home and Away (both soaps......:yuck:)

You can't use that excuse 80Y 2C2.

Neighbours is 6.30
H&A is 7.00
TGA is 7.30. ;)

I reckon you watch them all in that order.

It would be interesting to see them review more cars that AREN'T in the Holden/Ford V8 camps. Something like a hot hatch shootout, past & present. It can include anything from AE82 Corolla's to SSS Pulsars to Satria GTi's and find out which is the king of the hot hatch world here in Australia. 👍

Ah hardy hardy ha ha.....very funny wise guy (no actually, that was pretty good ) but only someone with intrest in Neighbours and H&A would know what times they're on............💡. I believe the ball is in your court:sly:.

What I was TRYING to say is that even though it's not TGUK, it's still up there for the best stuff on freeTV.

Anyone with Foxtel knows when it's on. :p

Just scroll through the EPG, and anything else that's good between 6.30-7.30 gets reminders. :D Right at the moment on my TV, it's TNA Impact on Fox8 +2.

Soapie on steroids > Soapies. ;)

If it's not that, it's usually the Family Guy/Simpsons combo.

yeah....don't come the raw prawn with your petty pay TV elitism

If I were in charge of the families finances, maybe I would buy pay TV...but there is no way...NOOOO way you could possibly get my dad to fork out of pay TV. Not when there's plenty of Midsomer Murders on ABC :yuck:

You have to make the best with what you've got....and I have TGAU, Spooks (AWESOME show), SOME Family Guy and Scrapheap challenge. This is also combined with my interactive TV channel - PS3.

We get the Japanese model, you guys get your own version IIRC?

This is what we get:

yeah that one!....I saw one down the road and it looked huge! I have to say our native one looks much better 👍

Yours actually looks like something I would drive, although all minivans in the US are big and ugly.

[Borat Impersonation]Very excite, very excite[/Borat Impersonation]

Less than 24hrs until we see the Elfin in action, should be interesting to see just how fast these little pocket rockets are.:) I hope they shoot to the top of the leaderboard, I'd love to see a sub $100k Aussie built sports car at the top.;)

That episode was a little better again, seemed to flow a little more naturally. I look forward to the Phase II GTHO episode later, I am pretty sure it won't like up to the hype certain Ford friends of mine give it.

Elfin type 5 was pretty cool unlike the MS8, both models are too expensive though.

the new episodes are getting better. The easy to spot mistakes are being dealt with (e.g Pizza Hut's leaning forward stupid stare gaze at the camera after he announces the Stig) and now minor tweaks (that I can't put my finger on) need to be made to get it to a good order.

It was a wierd one - I kept on seeing people I recognize in the background. The guys on the Redback team (who did Pizza Hut's Mini) who I had a chat with at uni about engineering..and cars (and got to sit in that open wheeler :D....but no legroom), and a guy I know from school who was behind warren during the interview:sick:

Elfin Type 5 was pretty cool as well as the MS8, both models are incredible bang for buck, $60k for that Type 5 beating vehicles 3 to 4 times as expensive.

Yeah, yeah, just fixing some of your typos there Jay, got a little hasty on that post didn't you?:sly:

Paulie wants an Elfin. I was just saying in the Holden Fan Club, Elfin should put power steering, revised suspension and even a wing (which IMO would improve the look if done right and provide downforce) into the MS8 Streamliner, which is an absolutely gorgeous car.👍

Oh, and I might not be a Ford fan, but I sure hope they don't so much as put a scratch on that GTHO.:nervous:

Please don't "correct" my quote like that, sorry I still think it is expensive for what it is, motorbikes can beat cars 10 times their price by that doesn't make them great.

I didn't realise the MS8 was such a turd, very expensive one too.

Motor bikes are also death on 2 wheels........... You're a hard man to please.:odd:

Decent episode. The armoured limo thing was pretty entertaining.

The Elfin Streamline is hideous and, as shown, drives pretty poorly. There is no reason for a V8 in that car since it can't put the power to the ground correctly. A finely tuned V6 would be fine and probably much more manageable. Either that or play with the downforce a bit.

And the T5? What's the point? Buy a Caterham R500, does 0-60 in 2.8 second which is staggering. If you are buying a car like that practicality and comfort really aren't on the top of your list. Sure it's fast but why not just make that little extra leap to the Caterham?

The reason there's a V8 in that Elfin is not for outright speed, but for the sake of putting a V8 in such a lightweight vehicle. Think of it kind of like Australia's version of the Shelby Cobra, or either a simple V8 cruiser for now. But that said I do hope they're making either a whole new V8 specific chassis (that chassis pre-dates the MS8 by quite some time and was used for a 4cyl originally) or planning serious upgrades to the original as obviously it's far from perfect I admit. Plus I still think it's gorgeous.:p Also, the Elfin is rated for a low 4sec range 0-100, not 5sec like Pizza Hut said.:odd: (And the Type 5 does high 3sec, not low 4sec like he said) This car came out what, 5 years ago? I think it's not holding up too badly, with just 245kw it holds up to a 500hp super sedan and beats a 400+hp German sports car. But yes, I agree, it needs a major overhaul and soon. If I was Tom Walkinshaw, I'd build a new chassis, get downforce in on the act as well as power steering, use the latest in suspension wizzardry and use an LS3.:scared:
Why buy a Type 5 over an R500? Well I'd buy it simply because it's different and Australian, but I'm not an elitist. It's probably better (more comfortable?) on long cruises and stuff if you ever wanted to do that, which would be quite fun in a car like this (pictures driving coastal road in one of these types of cars), but really depends, and I wouldn't really know which is better. It sounds like you'd save a couple of dollars on the Type 5 too, if you're that worried between the difference of being in supercar territory and hypercar territory modify that little 4 banger up a bit. Just personally too, I again think the Elfin looks better than the Caterham. The Elfin looks like a finished car, the Caterham looks like something some bloke built in his shed.

Now I'm finished my big long post, where I don't think I presented opinion as fact, tolerate my opinion or shoot me down for not following your view of cars.

I recognize both sides of the argument here.

The R500 is simple, pure, Veyron smashing fun. For the price you pay for, nothing from a factory is going to touch you and I will say, when they are constructed and painted correctly, look very beautiful and handle like a go-kart. That sums it up for that. :)

The Elfins though, being Aussie will always light some sense of patriotism but it goes well because of that LS1 and had (re: had for the time) great handling and stopping ability. But the thing is, the Type 5 is trying too much to be like a Caterham/Lotus 7 and doesn't succeed in any area. The MS8 however is a different kettle of fish when it comes to the look factor and rivals the R500 all-up for that factor alone and make up for any handling deficiencies it may have when stacked up head to head against the R500. 👍

Now if only they sold those bloody MS8's for less!!

How does it compare to a Caterham its own power to weight ratio though? The R500 is quite clearly in a whole new league to the Type 5, but looking at the Caterham website, the Type 5 is actually a better match to the R400. Both do 0-100 in the high 3sec range, 333hp/tonne for the Elfin, 420bhp/tonne for the Caterham (who's putting power down better now?:D) and they are both priced similarly.

I don't know how much a Viper is in Australia but it seems like that would be a better purchase over the MS8. It also fits the Shelby Cobra replacement idea as well since that is essentially what they designed the vehicle for.

I'm willing to bet the Caterham is still the better car over the T5, whether you are comparing the R400 or not. The Caterham is a descendent of the Lotus 7 and still uses the same philosophy. Even then there are probably other track day cars out there that are better still such as the Radical.

It seems like TGA thought they were good cars because they were Australian, not because they were actually good cars. Just because a car comes from your country doesn't make it good. I think both of the Elfins they showed were rather "meh" when compared with other vehicles of their type, they weren't horrid but they didn't really accomplish anything new.

I think that's one thing I absolutely hate about TGA, they have this insane notion that everything Australia builds is awesome. They also do the "well if you mod this" argument too. Like the T5, they said it could beat the Elise with better tires...guess what? I could do a million mods to it and make it faster than a Veyron. They need to compare stock to stock, or they are going to play the mod game all day. At least TGUK doesn't do this as much, although they still do it quite a bit.

People people.

OK, as I see it, the thing weighs 750KG (or thereabouts) therfore handles a bit better than an Elise. Think of it as a softer squidgier Ariel atom - which its a softer squidgier R500. The caterhams are much harder on the road and require different skills and alertness to properly drive them like a car on the road. Caterhams are largly bought (well at least in the UK) because people intend to track them, whereas the T5 is more suited to a spirited drive on a sunday afternoon in the country - while it being civilized to get you back home.. The differences are subtle, but the cars are meant for completely different things.

Also, the Elfin is rated for a low 4sec range 0-100, not 5sec like Pizza Hut said.:odd: (And the Type 5 does high 3sec, not low 4sec like he said)

Got these stats from the media did you? I think since Pizza Hut had both cars at his disposal for a day or two, his word on what the cars is greater than some PR on a website or in a magazine.

Maybe TG AU like these Aussie cars because they actually are good......... The only praise he had for the MS8 was the straight line speed, which is still awesome btw, and its looks, which is subjective from person to person. (If you recall he didn't like the Walkinshaw scoop either, but all other Aussies love it). All you ever come to this thread to do is bag on Australian cars, do you have anything constructive to contribute at all?:grumpy:

Edit: @ Nibbers, since when have Top Gear ever done their own performance testing? They've always quoted manufacturer times, always, and they got it wrong this time.

er....is that directed at me?

EDIT: Ohhh ok..it wasn't

I'm not sure about that.....they never say "claimed" when reeling off the stats and they have the resources to properly tell you what a full throttle start would be like in everyday conditions. Maybe it's the fact all the other manufacturer's claims are right. I dunno....'tis confusing.
