Top Gear Australia starts Sept 29. We get all this news on the American show, and nothing on the Aussie version, then all of a sudden the latter starts airing next month?! I can't wait to see how Corolla and Foust do, so does anyone of importance host the Australian show, or are they just auto journalists?

Charlie Cox apparently raced in the BTCC for a year, and did some commetary on the BBC. But apart the other two are complete no bodies, a cartoonist and an advanced driving instructor

TopGear Australia starts in just under an hour. I'm not expecting it to be brilliant just yet - even TopGear took a few seasons to really hit its stride - but please, oh please, don't let it be cringe-worthy like most remakes of popular shows end up being.

Oh ****, I missed it. It's already 30min in, oh well I'll have to get it from somewhere else then. Thanks for the reminder.

Ep 1 run and done. 6/10 - tried a little hard and the stories weren't the greatest, but they avoided most of the Aussie stereotypes. Theme music is the same, The Stig is still called The Stig, they have a test track, and the studio looks hauntingly familiar to the UK studio.

They really need to work on their camera angles when showing cars on the test track - get some height guys so we can see what the damn thing looks like. Similar problem TG had in its first series.

Will I watch it again? Yeah, why not.

Spectacularly rubbish. They attempt to make you laugh but fail miserably, they make jokes which you cannot laugh at, and they think they are funny. I only saw half the episode but apparently the first half was pretty bad, so I'm only assuming there. Cox's voice is just plain weird, and you can tell he's trying to be the Clarkson of the show. The studio looks exactly the same as TGUK, I was expecting more Aussie stereotypical stuff, I mean this is TGAus, not TGUKRipoff. I'll give them a chance, this is only the first episode but I hope they stop trying to copy TGUK, alot of potential if they make their own, unique show.

Well I had very low expectations for Top Gear Australia so in the end I think it was better than I was expecting. Except the Aussie Stig, he doesn't seem all that good, laps didn't look fast and were not clean atleast Stig UK if the lap isn't clean it still looks really fast and in most cars (including the GTR, 997 Carrera S etc) he didn't even use the paddles but opted awkwardly to reach for the stick mid corner like it was some 90's 'sports shift' auto.

I am suprised they choose the Proton Satria as the celeb lap car, I expected a Daewoo based Barina or something.

*EDIT* oh and I love how they started the LP560 on stage and within a few seconds of the engine started he was hitting limiter.... The engine wouldn't even had full oil pressure throughout the engine yet

The studio is not quite the same... apparently it's 1ft shorter.

Couldn't help but post that up :dopey:

Not very good was the first airing of Top Gear Australia I must say, but next week's program looks a little more promising.

I still don't understand why they haven't chosen Australian V8 Supercar driver and television presenter Grant Denyer as the main host. He would be perfect, it seems unsensible not to have him there.

Well I found a short clip of Top Gear Australia:

and I got to say, its just isn't the same. :guilty: Don't know how you Aussies enjoy this, but I think it sucks. 👎 (yeah, even if it was just 2+ minutes)

What was the overall reaction to TGAus in Australia? I hope this doesn't spell doom for TGUS before it even airs...

Top Gear Australia was better than I expected. I think it'll take the hosts a little bit of time to stop acting like the UK hosts and start being themselves a little bit more. I wasn't the slightest impressed by The Stig, possibly because the camera angles were rather bad. We didn't really get a good look at the test track, most shots were either too low or too close. I'll keep watching, it was the first episode after all.

It didn't seem too bad, but I'll have to download the whole episode. Personally speaking, if the Aussies can pull it off, there isn't any reason why we wouldn't be able to here in the States. It sounds like they're having a lot of fun shooting the show already, and I'm looking forward to our version (whenever that is...).

Guesses for The Stig?

Warren Luff
Cameron McConville

Some old coot who forgot how to drive and refuses to learn.

You know it's Australian when the presenters get hold of a R8 and do serious Donuts in it

I agree, the aussie host's looked a bit nervous and probably need to be a bit more OZ(more casual, laidback). But for the first 'GO',they didnt do to bad.?👍

For the first episode I give it a big 👍

It was a lot like the UK show, but since it was the first episode and they are carrying the Top Gear name this is what I expected. Over time they will be given reign to develop their own unique show, and I think it's good so far.
Sound quality and The Stig's driving could definitelty improve, I just can't wait for episode 2!!

It's still 1000 times better than the next best Australian car show.;) With time I will grow to like TG Aus better than the UK versions because
a) Our hosts aren't idiots
b) It will strike chords closer to home (eg. HSVs and FPVs on the show, Australian locations etc etc)

You're saying that May, Hammond, and Clarkson are idiots? Do you just mean they '****' around too much or something?

Jeez, not being able to say part of James' favourite quote is getting on my nerves.

I am sure he just means that they goof around a lot of the time. Plus, James May is a genius as far as I know.

I didn't call the UK guys idiots, simply that ours aren't idiots so it will be easy to like them more with time, when combined with reason 2, for me.

Edit: But Clarkson does have some silly opinions/ideas.:p

I personally don't think May is that smart, he just acts like that.

I can see what you are trying to get on at, although I hope they get to know how to make us laugh. The UK guys have a thing for it now, they can just act stupidly to get easy laughs while our AU guys seem more serious.

I laughed loudly a number of times in the show. Old mate getting airbourne on the sand dune was hilarious, and poking fun at Warren's "suicidal" behaviour was also funny. The strecth Hummer and their remarks on it was down right hilarious.

PS- The Stig's heart beating to the sound of a V8 Torana.:sly:

I didn't laugh once during the whole thing, although I did only watch the second half so I wouldn't know.

Hard to please much?

Edit: Actually, I just watched The Stig's driving again, and apart from the GTR (which it looks like he had a lock-up in, why didn't they re-do the lap? It's also a Haltech GTR, i.e. faster than stock) he actually drives OK. For those wondering, I present Aussie Stig. (Just stop the video when it reaches Warren with the Maybach, the only truly sad part of the show):

Maybe because your not Australian? :p
But anyways, do you guys know where I can watch TGAU other than Youtube? Or can anyone please PM me where I can download the episode? Tried searching for the torrent, but to no avail...... :(
