I've seen threads about folk's opinions of the most overrated cars in the game, and also some have suggested that the "recommended" cars for each category can be bettered in many cases.

As a relative newbie to GT6, I'd be glad to hear which underrated "unsung heroes" you'd suggest for Novice B, Novice A etc. and the reasons why (cheapness for the power? tunability?)

Sincere thanks for any replies.

A Mazda RX-7 FD is an inexpensive and highly practical car, and needs basically no tuning at all. It is supremely driveable at all speeds, and can be tuned up and detuned to fit many needs. In every Gran Turismo series, it has been one of the very first cars I purchase.

Don't know if it fits into what you are looking for, but my unsung hero would be the Nissan Fairlady Z '08. I know that car inside and out, put many thousands of miles on it, and it has always been there for me, never letting me down.

Some cars that perform better than you think would be:

Srt challenger
Pontiac gto (newer)
Most muscle cars have surprising handling.
Citroen Xsara (point for point extremely lethal (if mastered it's ALMOST unbeatable in its pp range))

It just depends what your looking for, pp, weight, hp, handling, or torque

Thanks for these suggestions folks. A good spread of types and performance, and yes, exactly the sort of advice I was looking for. Hell, I'm that much of a newbie that I've only just realised I'm racing in National B and A (not Novice B and A as I put in my first post) <embarrassed shrug>

The hachi roku is a very good car. It's stats would fool you but form a car that's listed as having. 58/42 weight balance its very nimble.

Its a good drive but slow for its PP unfortunately :(

I guess it's how you build it. We usually run ours at 374pp and its decently fast.
We ran it with a bunch of cars from the era as part of a FITT tuning challenge and it was the slowest of the bunch, might make for some fun against AI but its never going to be a contender

I'd second the RX-7 FD. - Good power and low weight
If you can get the pennies then a TVR is always good.
4 wheel drive? I'd stay away from the GT-Four - it seems to be very slow compared to others in its class (LanEvo/Impreza/LifeStep Van) - The Tommykaira ZZ-III is excellent value for money.

Mid engine. They are all good. The 512BB from Ferrari can be a handful at first, I've heard.

My recommendations

Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) '02
Tommykaira ZZ-II '00
Honda NSX-R '02
Vauxhall VX200 Turbo '00
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C6) '06
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (C7) '14
Nissan GT-R Black Edition (R35) '12
TVR Tuscan Speed 6 '00

Many thanks guys, this is all terrific info and is just what I was looking for! I've purchased the C7, and the Golf Gti 76 so far - the C7 is ideal for the FR races, not too difficult to handle in the corners and fairily breezes along the straights! Similarly the Golf for the FF cups, although I've yet to upgrade it and I'm struggling to keep pace with a Peugeot RCZ that keeps winning.

The recommendations you've all kindly made will keep me occupied for a good while to come!

Those aren't unsung heroes, rather eye rolling ringers.

dc2-5 Integras will give you a win but for pleasure over an easy win the citroen c4 is nice and it's got cool aero options.

I've added the RX7 FD and the Citroen C4 to my garage now. I'm finding the RX7 in particular a bit of a handful just now - very easy to spin out exiting a corner or drifting round a wide bend (eg turn one on SSR5) if I tramp too hard on the gas... But I guess it's a case of practice makes perfect!

Drive it like an MR, don't let off throttle completely otherwise it will over steer.

The Camaro SS '00 is one of the most powerful cars if you consider the fact that it only costs 22k. I'm pretty sure the next car up in terms of BHP is the 2010 camaro, which isn't exactly unsung.

Some rally legends: The Renault 5 is very good at 450PP. For 500PP,my choice is the monster Ford RS200.

Mini Marcos.

You can use this for a huge amount of A Spec races - not only the obvious Sunday Cups, FF, compact, Brits, Euro but with tuning you can beat the NA and Turbo Tuner and other races later on.

Start with small power upgrades, gearbox and diff for tuning. Then move on to NA and turbo tuning, and then you can tighten up with a suspension tune.

A mighty fun little car that will beat the AI supercars.

Fiat 500 babay!!!!

No seriously for entry level events a/b I had an S2000.
It handles very well. It has a decent amount of power to begin with also.
Edit: (I am a Honda fanboy though, so I may be biased :)

The Mid range events ia/ib I would go with S15, and Gallardo Lp560.

I chose the s15 because I won the david and goliath trophy with it. ( I entered the supercar challenge) Had to really be on my toes though.

I got an S2000 as a prize car (I can't remember what for!) but it is a great drive and I'm really chuffed with it - it's incredible how quickly my garage is growing with your recommendations - and a fair bit of time working my way through the races - now in National A and just a few stars short of unlocking the International B licence tests...
