Update July 2nd, 10 PM EST

Has anyone given thought to the idea that maybe this is the way GT5 is going to work (PD controlling all the events)? I mean, do we know *for sure* that there will be private "rooms"? Is it a confirmed feature or is it just wishful thinking?

This article has some comments which refer to the future direction for online gaming in GT5:

Eurogamer: The online play modes you've provided in Prologue are pretty simple compared to what other racing games do - is improving that a big focus for you?

Kazunori Yamauchi: Yes, there'll be a lot of features added to that. We'll be adding a lot of the necessities, like being able to form your own car clubs within the game, or making racing teams in the game. Things like that, where the users can actually interface with each other, are something that we'll be adding.

Whilst not using the terminology "private rooms", car clubs and racing teams would indicate some degree of collaboration between players. Will it ultimately provide what we all want individually? Most certainly not, but that's where the wishful thinking comes in. :)

- i don't know if PD takes notice of what we share on the forum, but let;s just assume they do
It is a big mistake to presume too much here.

SCEA has said, and I presume this goes for all regions, that they watch participation levels to guide them in designing the on-line events. If this is the case, then they seem to be interpreting things differently than how many of us want to play. Not participating won't even register a blip on a line, even during the on-line summer doldrums when things are slow.

The only way you can be even reasonable sure they will pay attention to you is to write to them at your regional SONY office (Contact Us) and tell them - clearly and politely. Don't rely on participation numbers to tell them anything because it hasn't worked in your favour very well so far.

Cheers,

MasterGT

Whenever I play GT5P, I mainly race around Suzuka in the F430, so the F430 and GTR event is good for me. But the overall lack of "Expert" races is a little bit disappointing.

How many times do I need to be disconnected from Suzuka 700?

Nice update!

83 I believe is the required number..👍

I find in NTSC a lot more cry babies exist, so there will be more disconnects..

PP750 is filled with DC's at certain times.. Hit more miss really.

:) But 83 is quite low..I'd say 105 is a better number..just enough to drive you crazy

Not trying to diss the US but after racing over the last 2 days, i'd also add a lot more punters from the US
What i can't figure is i use to let faster drivers go pass me, hoping that maybe i could see there braking points/pick up a few pointers, am i the only one thinking like this?

Don't blame them, they just watch too much NASCAR and think that's how racing's done. :sly:

Last update worst ever!! It Sucks
It handicaps (catch up is on )to much and lets the other cars catch up to you and then you end up with 8 cars wide in the corners and then Crash! Crash! Crash!

Japan racers are a lot of fun to race with. It seems like a lot of US people don't take the driving seriously and i see more punters from the US as well. I had the JP version before it came out in the US and the online experience was MUCH better. I rarely got hit and if i did, generally they would wait and let me pass.

The F430 suzuka race is a lot of fun now. It's good to race against some competitive, good people. I also like how their is no tuning. It shows who the better driver is, you know?

A lot of the JP people are wicked fast. Modestly (JP) blew me away with his skill and speed with the GT-R.

I'll stand up a bit for the US drivers since there seems to be a bit of bias and stereotyping going on. I've been trying out the F430/GTR event and for the most part I am usually one of 2-3 US drivers on the grid at the most. The first corner punting mayhem still happens every time and continues throughout the race.

Yay, another fast NTSC! We got to get those brits and Jp's lol Well all of them. lol

I would love to stand up more for the NTSC drivers..but theyare the ones that seems to cause most of them problems on the track.. :(

Well. look forward to seeing you out there

Later

Well, as I've seen it so far... no matter where they come, but if they are tagged, they are less eager to punt you out. (but, there are more non-tagged players that are "clean" that are those who are a little bit worse)

And So far US has given VERY GOOD competition!!!!!! 👍

I like that Suzuka inter event. PD, IMO, should limit the max player for those inter event to 8 max to help minimize lag issues.
