Update Makes You Need Spa!

Wait so now you have to have bought the track? That sucks, that's gonna make a lot less usefull. If I'm hosting a room full of people and a few of us want to go to Spa then everybody else would have to leave. Statistically I'm sure that the majority of people don't have the pack, most people probably don't play enough to make the purchase worth it ( which is my opinion of Halo, CoD, battlefield, etc. map packs). This will make GT5 tracks about as much use as the Nürg GP pack for Forza 3, no A spec events on it and now very limited use online as well. I already bought the track, I did so 5 minutes after it became available, because I know I will use it regularly. I have no problem with somebody else who did not racing on it in my room because it means more cars on the track. Allowing use of the track to non-buyers was a clever, kind, and unique thing of PD to do, changing it was motivated by nothing other than thoughtless greed

Pretty sure it was a programming oversight that led to the track being available for as long as it was, if they wanted people to try it out then a "60-minute-on-track" trial would've made much more sense.

The truth of the matter is that we are living in a sad era of gaming to be honest.
Every major title with close ties to Sony will hold back content from the original game to later be released in 3 to 4 batches of DLC roughly amounting to the price of the original title. This treand ha been developing ever since the Call of Dutty franchice started doing it. Sony caught up and saw a world of proffit in it. Sadly now this is the rule for any major title release.
Why should we pay for a game twice just to get an extra 5-15% of content? Because is business as usual and we are the market.

This is the main reason I have no CoD DLC. GT5 content isn't that unreasonably priced. Yet.

There's never been any evidence or statement to suggest that this is the case. And at any rate my point about it making the track more usefull still stands. This change is likely to make me (andI'm sure others) further question the value of future track packs likely leading to lower sales of the packs.

That makes no sense. You not buying a track because you weren't going to buy it anyway equals less sales? Pretty sure when they fixed (IMO) the tracks it will lead to more sales.

It makes sense. I haven't bought it but wasn't at all surprised or disappointed when I couldn't race Spa anymore. I will soon though.

No one at PD or Sony is going to approve a decent, GT5-looking version of Silverstone or Zandvoort to go for sale at $0.99

A $10 PSN card can get you the track pack and whatever other goodies you fancy. Other games can charge that much for a single track.

Ok guys, here's something to put into perspective.
In iRacing we pay 10-15 dollars per track, now we get a true to life laser scan of the track and sorruondings wich gives you the best rendition possible of that track, every little detail is there and you can feel it on the FFB.
Psn Store charges us 5 dollars for 2 tracks, the attention to detail is not as exact as iRacing but the tracks are pretty decent with some minor flaws. That being said the 5 dollar price is a bargain, but then the fact that you have already paid full price for the game makes some people think twice to pay the extra money for content.
But no matter what this is the way of virtual entertaiment today so get used to it, we created the monster now we have to pay the price.

Every game has the same system, GT5 players have been spoiled by making DLC available to them when it hadn't been purchased. Can't think of many other examples where this has happened.

Yeah I'd like to play on other zombie maps on Black Ops with my friends who've got the lot, if I don't buy them though I can't play them, simple as that.

Only difference is that CoD maps need to be downloaded upon the purchase, while GT5 has it pre-downloaded in an update, and you pay for unlock codes.

Hence why people could've accessed it without buying.

Has anyone without the track pack checked if you can still access the time trial on Kart Space? Or did they lock the Seasonals as well to only those who bought the pack?

I could access it without the DLC.

I think it is a good move from PD. I was always going to buy the original DLC, but kept putting it off, and this update has made me speed up the process and buy Spa.

They also added the family pack upgrade for cars and tracks to the first lot of DLC.

Best 2 moves by PD.

That sounds a tad selfish if I'm honest.

Depends which side of the fence you stand on.

If nobody had bought it, nobody would have been able to play on it full stop.
So to actually complain when they only let the people that paid for the track play on it is incredibly self centered.
The only thing we should be hearing is gratitude for the fairly lengthy period this unexpected glitch existed. Not moaning that the countless numbers that did buy it should not actually be the only ones that can use it.

PD know that this glitch would affect sales numbers next time they release a track. They would be insane to have left it alone.

Ah man :(

Right decision by PD though, I'm not going to knock them when the did the right thing. Lucky it's Christmas and I was planning to get a PSN card, looks like I'll be getting the GT5 DLC as well as the GTA4 DLC's.

Glad PD have done this. I hated how annoying drivers would join my room and cause havoc.

?? how will this change anything?

i had the DLC since it was launched since no way i was going to miss out on Spa. I don't mind that people who hadn't bought were able to race, at least you were sure to have plenty of people for the race.

that said, i must admit after learning that the DLC was basically accessible to all was making me re-consider wether i would buy future DLC tracks. now i don't have that conundrum.

so I understand PD's decision, which is good in some ways and bad in others
