This is looks like something straight out of a Japanese anime movie!

Firstly, PHaSR stands for Personnel Halting and Stimulating Response. Personnel Halting sounds just like what a weapon is meant to do but Stimulating Response sounds kinda dodgy, don’tcha think?

The PHaSR was developed for providing a non-lethal method in crowd control and immobilizing attackers. It does this by shooting low-powered laser beams that induces a temporary blinding effect on targets - kinda like stepping out into the light after spending some time in the dark.

It weighs just as much as a fully loaded M60 machine gun but I guess you will not be getting any recoil while firing this thing. Makes it much easier to aim since the PHaSR only works on one target at a time. Maybe a widespread version is in the works.

So what happens if the attacker wears eye protection? Maybe there is a ‘kill’ setting too?

Even though its non-lethal, people would probably get their pants scared off. It looks like something that could blow your brains out, and 5 other people around you.

Needs to look more like these:

This thing is over a year old. I don't think it's really worth anything. There are much simplier devices that already do the same thing.

I was looking forward to something called the "Pain Ray" but it may be canceled.

You can read more about non-lethal weaopns, including this one and the one I just mentioned, here... http://www.defensetech.org/archives/cat_lesslethal.html

The name is all wrong! It should be PHASr dammit.

Weighs as much as a fully loaded M60!? Jesus, that doesn't seem practical. I'm pretty sure a bunch of flash grenades would do the job.

Holy, Ghost In The Shell, Batman! That thing looks like Saito's sniper rifle.

All the people mentioning impracticality, I don't think you quite get this...

It's a Phasr Gun!

Who needs practicality? It's a Phasr!

Couldn't you just wear sunglasses against it...

How is this any better than a PSG-1 or a tactical shotgun with bean bags and/or rubber bullets?

Seems like more trouble than it's worth, wouldn't it be easier to just blast some Cher?

To me, it looks too cheap to put in a 80s Japanise movie.

this is cooler:

An XM8. Woo.

Your point?

Rambo found it practical enough.

Rambo isn't human, everyone knows that.

PHaSR > XM8

XM8 Would own a PHaSR, With frag ofcourse.

On topic:
That thing is too big.

Chris.

.

I'm talking in terms of originality.

The XM8 is just a restyled M4A1. The only large difference is the body style. The M4A1 is actually lighter, and more versatile.

And, yes, we are on topic. We're discussing the XM8 and it's insuperiorities (assuming that is a word) to the PHaSR.

Nope. But inferiorities is.

But the solution isn't lighter weapons, it's stronger men!

I'm pretty sure that if Metal Gear had a penis, that would be it.

Toronado, you totally forgot the British one!

Heh, he's also holding an M60 in the wrong position....The correct way of holding an M60 while firing is actually with the buttstock against your shoulder, like firing a normal assault rifle....

Wrong.

Prone and supported is the proper way of firing it.

Well, yes thats the other correct way, as for firing it while standing. Holding it like an assault rifle is the proper positiong. Not low slung and at your waist.

Of course the Hollywood logic of using an assault rifle also includes hip shooting.

Except for grenade launchers, which must be held like a pistol.
