Congrats to you all USA GT racers. I've pre-ordered my copy of GT4 and I'm promised I'll get it here in Lisbon at 0:00 of March 9th (I keep my fingers crossed).

I read already that the USA GT4 has the same cars tha PAL version has. But is everything else also changed from the Japanese version? As an example, is the S16 license test made with the Sauber (like jpn version) or is it made with the DTM Mercedes?

(sorry if this has been answered already, but I didn't find this info)

thx

The game physics are completely different from GT3, I noticed it's easier to drift in the corners than I expected.

First off...I didn't ask for your credibility.

Secondly...For the last few months this message board was loaded with X-box fanboys stating how Forza and Enthusia would make GT4 look like crap...I took offence to it as well as, well....you. If you didn't take offence to it, you should have the GT Enthusiast stripped from your title.

So being an American citizen, I wanted to let all of those people know what they were missing and to never forget that the GT series.... (IMHO...as well as most others plainly even logging on to this web site) ......is unstoppable.

...and to end this...I never said I hated your bessed X-Box....

..touchy...*whew*

Having had the Japanese version for the last six weeks, and seeing the NA version for the first time last night:

1. NA users get robbed on the manual. I really want that 210 page reference guide in English, but it is not included with the NA release. My theory is that the guide will be re-made by Prima and sold separately as the GT4 strategy guide. This is probably why the NA release was less costly than the Japanese release.

2. Its nice to finally be able to read everything, so many of the menu options are much clearer to me now.

3. The additional cars look pretty nice, can't wait the drive the XJR-9 and 905, along with the HPA R32.

4. I do not have HD capability, but my friend does. Game looks awesome in 480p and 1080i. Though the switching in and out of 1080i on his TV is not instant, and is kind of annoying. I think that 480p is the ideal way to go if you've got the option.

5. Being able to choose units of measure is nice, but they forgot to apply it to the weights of the cars, which are always in Kg.

Boys, can we get on with our lives now? Thanks.

Quick questions about the coffeebreaks.
  1. How many are there?
  2. You don't win cars from them like from the licenses if you completed them all in bronze, silver, gold?
Just wanted to know. :)

as far as buying, you click buy i think & it'll pop up all the specs of the car & ask if you actually want to buy the car, i don't remember off hand tho, but it did before i bought my lancer...

intelectualism
I was cheap and I brought my 100k and licences over ;P Started with an evo VIII MR.. HKS suspension stg 3 lightened took me a lil to get used to the physics.. but now the MR is at 400ish hp ripping through the "Special Condition Events".. up to about 87k, Debating if I should sell the rally car I won for 265k or use it. XD

SELL IT! You can just re-do the course and win it again by clearing the data. It's the biggest loophole in this or any other GT game.

So far my impressions are the same as everyone elses. The graphics are just plain SWEEEEET especially in 1080i. The tracks seem so realistic and not scaled down. My big complaints is the Song List which isn't that bad.

However my biggest complain is that overall the sound seems flat. I am running it through my 7.1 surround setup with Dolby PLXII and it sound pathetic. GT3 sounds better. I might have to do some setting changes or something but as of now this is the only complaint I can find. If all else fails I can just turn the radio on or put some SACD in my player.

All in all the best game I have played in for awhile.

Music? There's music in GT4? Wait - you're talking about the engines revving right? The only way to play is with race music off.

One would imagine that they are meant to be something pleasant and non-pressure to give one a break from the stress of trying to complete the license tests and to remind you that driving should be fun and this is a game.

*WARNING*
Do not try Nurburgring without spending time with other track. This track will teach you a lesson, It' the most difficult and demanding track I ever experience in any racing games. IF you think you were a master it in PGR2, you have seen nothing yet. My suggestion is make a few laps with a Vitz or a Mini before attempting with anything like a Skyline or Evo III.
First time running the track was in my M3 CSL. It was challenging indeed. The road is very bumpy and it's hard to keep your car stable. But if you slow it down just a little it's all in all an easy track.

The first thing I noticed was the confusing layout, it took me forever just to discover everything. Then when I bought the 300zx I was amazed at how differently it handled compared to the one in GT3... The handling seems a ton more realistic, with the weight transfer and such. I'm loving it :D

👍 Played it.
Loved every minute of it.

I heard a number of people Bi*ch and moan about the physics engine. I love it. Once you lose traction, the car loses its ability to turn well. I don't think that the 1000hp skylines of GT3 are going to be the fastest way to go in this game. By the way, I started the game with g-limited mr2 with 39,000 miles on it.
Well, off to class. :dopey:

Yeah - I love the weight transfer during braking and acceleration. Its awesome!

My memory card is ruined now by GT4. It won't load the game. It freezes mid-way through loading. Terrific, I just finished all licences exept Super and the first 10 Mission Hall's.

👎 -Speaking of stuff I don't need to see, how does one turn OFF the gear suggestion that flashes bright red? You know the one that take your eyes away from the ACTUAL gear indicator, sometimes confusing you.

I was very happy to find that, unlike GT3, you can turn this feature off. Under the racing section in options, set display to simple (I think, I'm at work now, not in front of the game) and it will get rid of the red flashing gear number, the brake and accelerator indicators, the g-force indicator and a few other things (basically, all the distracting flashing things on the screen). Less clutter on screen!

While I cannot comment on the game I can on my car which is a '03 (uh should be '05) Black Dodge Viper SRT/10.

Not only did they screw up the 🤬 handling as it acts like a FWD car with understeer, they also decide to make it the only 🤬 convertable (so far that I know of) that can't have the top put down. As 🤬 as it is the Viper isn't suppose to handle as well as it does in this game, it should be a massive oversteer torque monster!!!

The only GREAT big plus is they are spot on with the Sound!👍

I don't know what happened. It just doesn't load my game anymore. The memory card is fine actually. My game got corrupted somehow.

:/ I'm really mad right now. I don't feel like doing the licences again. They may be easy but time consuming.

I've only had it for about five hours now, and I haven't even started GT Mode yet!! Well, I bought myself an MR2, but I haven't actually driven it yet.

Spent my time zipping a Golf around every available track in Arcade Mode first. :)

This game is everything I expected it to be! I know "Best Game Ever" might be a bit redundant, but I think it's the truth. So far, I haven't seen a thing that I would change. Sure, it might not be perfect, but it's far surpassed the expectations I've had of it for the last couple years.

I agree wholeheartedly that the Nürburgring is a hell of a tough track. My first hot lap was a disaster, I was amazed to get around in under ten minutes. I went back a little later with a Shelby Cobra, and gave up after a quarter lap (the car's so twitchy that the little bumps on the track will send you into a spin for no apparent reason.. hehe). Definitely my favorite track, though, it's the track I was looking forward to the most.

Other highlights: I quite enjoy the Infineon Raceway.. it's just.. fun. :) And while the folks who played Prologue are probably a bit jaded at this point, I was totally blown away by New York. The sheer detail in the track is utterly astounding. And it's a lot of fun, to boot. :)

All in all, I'm VERY pleased with the game. It was everything I was expecting, and then some.

Did anyone else notice that automatic cars actually behave like automatic cars? Someone on the PS.com forums was complaining about an "error" in the Mercedes SL500, that the car never came to a complete halt. If you stop the car and let off the brake, it'll start to inch forward.. just like a real automatic car. That's brilliant! Talk about attention to detail! :) I'm assuming that at least some of the other automatic cars behave that way (don't have a McMerc, as I haven't played GT Mode yet).

After some messing around I found that keeping the sound option setting at stereo sounds better than the Dolby PLII with my reciever Onkyo 702.

Just thought I would post it. Now th ecars sound friggen awesome.

one question about cofeebreaks-

1) what are they? (what purpose do they serve)

Well, I tried to make a thread on Coffee Breaks yesterday (seeing as there isn't a single thread about them in the GT4 forum), but it wasn't approved

My post on the 1st page is all I know:

Anybody figure out if the License Test Coffee Break is good for anything?

I just did all the B License tests and it gave me all 3 prize cars without doing the Coffee Break. It looks like all the Coffee Break does is use another day ... but it does have a Gold time, so I'm a little curious. I went back and got gold on it and that didn't seem to do anything.

I'd say that Coffee Breaks probably don't do anything, or there would be more info on them; the lack of comments on them in GTP or GT4 seems to imply that they're nothing special. You don't get any % complete for them or any other change on your status other than advancing a day, and you can totally skip them and still get all the gold/silver/regular license cars. The fact that they have a gold time makes it seem like you should get something for getting gold, but I don't think it matters.

(edit) Just to clarify, when you gold a Coffee Break, it doesn't add to your total # of golds, either. If you're trying to keep your number of days down, you'll want to avoid hitting "next test" when you're on the 8th test of any license, because it'll take you to the Coffee Break and use another day.

Picked up the game on my lunch hour today. Time to stop speculating, wondering, investigating, considering, grousing, whining, guessing, searching, complaining, agonizing, and debating, and start actually playing the game.

Oi. The shaking camera in the collision made me nauseous...I had a long wreck(basically, I wrecked the whole way down Tokyo's front straight. First hitting the wall a few times, and getting hit by the AI).

Might depend on what setting you're using for PLII. For the longest time I was having problems with PLII sounding "tinny" compared to normal stereo.. it was missing a lot of the low-end "oomph". The problem is that the game always recommends that you use the "PLII Movie" mode. Once I decided to ignore those instructions and use "PLII Music", I haven't had a single problem. PLII MUS sounds exactly like stereo, quality-wise, but uses all of the speakers. Once the wind noise picks up in the game, the room practically shakes with all the bass the 'woofer's spitting out.

My reciever's a Sony 5.1 something-or-other.. one of those "home theater in a box" systems that Best Buy sells, includes reciever and speakers for like three or four hundred dollars. 100W per channel.. it's plenty loud enough. :)

Just got it. Been playing about 2 hours and love everything about it. Incredible improvement. The physics are amazing!!

A comment and a question-

Comment - People may have already noticed this, but if not... If you press the left analog stick down during replay it will fast forward the replay. Press again for normal!! Its great for getting to your favorite parts of a replay.

Question - Is there any way to limit anti-aliasing (jaggies). I find that many of these tracks and cars are very graphic intensive and I was just wondering what I could buy or tweak to improve this. My T.V. is big and expensive, but it is not HDTV nor is it progressive scan, so I run the screen setting at normal. I use an S-video cable that I think is pretty high quality. My PS2 is an old fat one that is pretty dusty and beat up but seems to work good! Any suggestions or is this just the way it looks?? Either way it is spectacular, but like all of us, I just want to make sure I'm not missing a possible improvement!

Thanks for your help
Eric
