I keep seeing threads nitpicking everything about the game, and if something isn't replicated to a T or up to par its under scrutiny from members here.

I remember playing racing games in the 90's and I never once thought they had bad graphics, because we were forced to use our imagination, everything was pixelated, but it still felt great and still gave me the great sensation of driving a car around a race track, it was so fun.

Now though, that graphics have been so "next gen" we expect things to look as realistic as possible, and when they don't, we bash the developers.

What ever happened to letting your imagination take over and solve the issues you see wrong with the graphics? Trust me, I am not happy at all about the shadow issue, I hate it when I see the dust pixel's everywhere during rally, and I am not big on the square trees. However, when I allow myself to get lost in the experience, that stuff really doesn't matter. The important things like sound, driving feel, frame rate, all move really well and if I let myself go and just have the game take me away I hardly notice any of the issues.

I do really hope they adjust the textures and up the shadows in an update, but really, the game runs so well and the experience is so awesome, anyone who isn't letting their imagination make up for the flaws is really missing out on a great experience.

You just said what I've wanted to say for a long time..

Also, being 13 and all, using my imagination is a piece of cake... =)

Making ANOTHER thread about it isn't going to help! But I hear what your saying.

No offense but I haven't seen any thread title's or OP's that have said what I said, I am not saying they aren't out there, but the threads I have seen are all about problems, problems that are easy to cope with if you just stop depending on only what you see.

As opposed to the 100's of threads full of whiny jerks who probably haven't even bought the game?

I would rather have positive threads spammed than the drivel that has ransacked this forum and many others.

Your thread is about the graphic deficiencies and there has been plenty of them. Difference is, yours has a positive spin on it.

Are you accusing me of spamming?

Agreed with the OP. The kids don't know they are born! Tsk. :)

My thread is hoping to help users cope with the problems, and enjoy the experience.

Can we let this go though? You aren't spamming, however I would like it if we can stay on topic so the thread doesn't get locked for turning into an argument. :)

Fine with me! :)

Even worse than people who are "nitpicking" are those apologists who are ready to hand wave every single issue with the game just because it's Gran Turismo. "Use your imagination to fix the problems with the graphics"? If you said that about any other game you'd be laughed off the Internet.

Criticizing an obviously flawed game isn't "bashing the developers." They opened themselves to criticism as soon as they released a product, just like every other studio or person who has ever released a game, film, book, or what have you.

Just because we use our imagination does not "wave" issues that should be fixed. I personally think the graphic issues with the shadows, rain, etc are horrible and should have been addressed pre-release, but they weren't, so I found a way to deal with it and the experience is still great.

I would have said the same for any other game. I do understand where you are coming from, noone want's sub-par games to be released then problems are dismissed with "use your imagination", that is not what I am doing though, I am just coping with what we are given so I don't miss out on such a great game until those issues are fixed.

To be fair, 6 years of picking on every little graphical issue in other games kind of puts GT5 in the spotlight for being dissapointed if the visuals don't live up to expectations... Good ol DG took a ton of flack for his "it doens't make my eyes bleed" comment not so long ago...

Que?

I was 14 when GT1 came out, and thought the graphics were as amazing as I think GT5's are now.

haha same here! I am 26 now :)

I see nothing whatsoever wrong with GT5's graphics - if it weren't a game it'd be a work of art. My problems with the game lie elsewhere.

Shadows, trees, who gives a damn. Enjoy the game =]

Thanks to the internet, I never have to let my imagination take over. 👍

This forum (and the GT world) for the last few years has been home to a lot of hating and picking on other racing games (one serious in particular) where every little issue was blwon up (or sometimes even faked) and laughed at with claims about why that was the wrong way to do things and how GT is and will be the most awesome and perfect (since Kaz is a perfectionist).

So it's only kind of fair that things work out the other way to an extent now...

I totally agree with the OP, I always remember that this is a video game and I'm so amazed at what they HAVE been able to do that the little things like pixelation and a random jagged edge here and there pretty much go un-noticed. And if I do notice them, it actually reminds me how good the game is because those things used to be the norm and now their rare.

I generally try to spend more time looking for the braking points and apex's than criticizing the graphics anyway. ;)

I remember playing starfox on the snes...best looking game I ever played.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7TF5evojYA

That game was epic... I watched the ending so many times amazed at how cinematic it was with the talking and all...

But let's be fair... things (an expectations) change over time... a few decades ago a car with a seatbelt was rare let alone AC or power locks.

PD set themselves up for extra scrutinizing with the vast difference in quality between assets in their own game. When I'm running in a pixely standard car with no cockpit view on a rather crummy user generated track with bad pop-in, I don't need to use my imagination, I can quit that race and hop in a beautiful premium model rally car with a fully modeled interior and run on the stunning Norwind K-Trial track. GT5 shows me moments of pure brilliance where imagination is not needed at all. GT5 is almost it's own worst enemy!

GTMotion, I agree with you full-heartedly. It kinda irritates me that the gaming industry seems to think players want visuals over gameplay... Sure, it's nice and all, but unless you are planning on hanging it as art I don't care too much about it.

However, on the other side of the coin, I can understand why people are so irritated over the graphical issues. Gran Turismo is a simulator. Simulators try to replicate the feel of actually doing what is being simulated. You would be surprised how small issues can throw someone out of the experience.

Use "imagination" and stop depending on the visual.

While I don't agree with whining and crying, I think your statement for this or any video game is silly. If you want to use your "imagination", go read a book and dream.

There are correctable faults with this game and people should want it to be corrected.

Yeah, it totally sucked. So let's... multiply the suckiness by two?

Thsi is the epitome of a fanboy I hate to say. Youhave taken an obvious and glaring flaw that has no place in a modern title and simple excused it away with "imagine its all shiny".

If this is you answer, then why not fire up Indy 500 from 1992 and have at it?

The physics is spot on, the graphics just require a bit of "imagination" to live with.

Sorry chap, but this is not how you "live with" something that was touted and promoted and hyped.

The mere fact that the PROLOGUE had better handling of certain aspects of the display engine is all the proof that is needed to know the title was rushed to market.
