Used Car Showroom Dealers

If they started putting used car dealerships back into the manufacturer dealerships imagine how long it would take to sift through every car dealership to find your ideal first car? Or check what different used cars become available every time it changes? No thanks.

Welcome to GT2. :D

Welcome to GT2. :D

I was implying it would take much much longer though since GT5 will have a helluva lot more manufacturers than GT2 did.:dopey:

Was there any word on buying/selling online? I bought FM3 on launch day, but have only just started messing around with it's auction house. It's kinda cool to buy a car on the cheap, give it a nice paint job and a few upgrades, then try to 'flip' it for a profit.

I like that you can sell paint jobs on FM3. I like buying the paint because I don't want to spend time arduosly crafting my own vinyls.

Online selling would be nice if only for the possiblity of dodgy salesmen.
Imagine looking for a low-mileage example of a certain car and seeing one being advertised as such, paying the full price and then discovering it is a high-mileage example of an inferior model in the wrong colour just like online selling IRL. ;)

If it was to be included you would probably see a whole seperate sub-culture develop with its own slang and people constantly building and customizing cars to sell for a profit, it would be another social aspect of online apart from just racing, competing with each other by offering lower prices and better deals, maybe even finance deals or digital floormats.

I think online selling would be done through an auction house type system - not necessarily by way of a bidding session, or sealed bids or a simple "see it, grab it" single price system - who knows what will work?
Anyway, this means that all cars are verified as per their description (i.e., it's generated by the game / auction house). Dodgy dealers would suck.

I also agree that there should be a centralised used car dealer system, but broken up into more categories than GT4, e.g.:
Classics, Luxury, Supercars, "Sports", Bangers, Racers (etc.)

Either that, or we get a comprehensive search system that isn't frustrating... if a race series mandates a certain set of restricted characteristics for eligible car selection, then you ought to be able to search using these same characteristics.
You ought to be able to sell cars in varying condition, with all sorts of parts installed / missing - equally, these parts should be sellable on the same system - should make for some interesting options, assuming we get the full customisation Kaz has been hinting at.

E.g., you could get yourself some 98-spec JDM wheels for your Acura Integra, or the front bumper / fascia / bonnet assy. to convert it - this would be especially useful if you can buy cars with different trim levels (e.g. clio 1.2 modified with OEM Renaultsport parts found on the auction house...) It's also quite common to use parts from other models, though I'm not sure how this would be controlled... e.g. AP1 S2000 brakes can be fitted to EG civics and most DC2 Integras - equally, the entire subframe and suspension components from a Type-R 'Teg can be transplanted to an EG with impressive results.

Failing that, aftermarket components to this effect would be awesome... but now I've wandered off topic, slightly - ah, but all these parts may end up for sale in a used condition :D
The game should generate a good deal of wares, depending on how the player-maintained auction house is coping. Rarer / mint parts / cars should indeed fetch a premium. 👍

Well, reading different threads during the last days I've figured something that might be interesting:

We already spotted dust (maybe even mud), in the Impreza WRC car, and we will have damage. Also, we already saw that marvelous garage animation in the CES demo. So as 1 plus 1 means ... errrhhmm...... you know how much, it would be 🤬 epic to have a used car dealer like that garage.

The garage on the CES demo look like an old but comfy and well styled warehouse, so why we can't have an old and filthy warehouse crammed full of slightly damaged and dust covered old models? I mean, there's the data on the mileage of that car, there's the price, but you can't test drive it, so it might be damaged, might have horrible scratches alongside the door panels and you're not seeing that because of the dust and mud on the car. ;)

So GT auto would finally have some work to do. Fixing the body, suspension, engine, giving the car a new paint maybe. Wouldn't be funny to find an wrecked '67 fastback Mustang and give life to it again. I mean, even if this process it's simply represented, you just take the car to GT auto, pay some bucks and take it back. Or even, you'll have to wait 10 days until the body it's fixed, so you cannot use the car until there.

That would be epic.

All good. However, we do not know if damage will carry over after the race, it might be a system whereby it deducts repairs from your winnings, or direct from your cash total. So selling damaged cars online, is looking a bit bleak at the moment, as neither persistent damage (Is that the right term?) or online car trading is confirmed.

Well, I'm taking this into consideration too, it would be just a game design choice, because you can save the collision data of that particular car in your PS3 save data, and since we have GBs of HD it might not be too complex and take too much space, even if you have 10000 cars.

I think they will be fixed automatically indeed, because this would save some time, instead of fixing your cars, the game does it for you and you just keep racing all the available time.

We indeed don't know whether the damage is permanent and some sort of repair/restore/paint shop will be included, would love it though.
Don't know either whether PD is even allowed to offer already damaged cars like the ones perhaps similar in concept as in GTA ( those were not real licenced cars however).
If damage is indeed permanent or persistent i really like the idea of some almost written off exotic gathering dust in my garage waiting for funds to get it restored.
And about selling used parts, i don't think it would really add something significant, although i really liked the idea of parts being interchangeable between models of the same brand, not just engine swaps but all sorts of mechanical parts, although engine swaps remain the most desirable option.

GT4's used car dealers.

Historic Showroom (80's and earlier used cars sold here).
Used Car Showroom I (early 90's used cars sold here)
Used Car Showroom II (late 90's used cars sold here)

I would be very happy with that. :D

The following are a few of my thoughts.

  • Perhaps some phyiscal used car lots. Meaning you can see 20 - 100 cars parked at a car lot in varius parking stalls and at variuos angles. Then using a cursur type of icon you can simulate walking around the cars and or focus on one car.
  • Ability to start up the car and maybe even take it for a quick spin on one of the roads used for photo mode. However you only get say 15 minuets max before car is returned to dealership. Used to be against this I deal of test driving cars, but it would be okay.
  • Want GT5 to include a in game car list that is checked off as the cars are purchased and kept in your garage. However the master car list is slowly revealed as you progress through the game. All will not be revealed until at say 90%. All versions including paint variations are included on the list.
  • Perhaps a newspaper or used car magazine style is used to search for used cars.
  • Maybe pay a finders fee and get a bi-weekly used car list generated that would include all of the cars from all dealerships. Then if you select one it takes you to the dealership for more details.
  • Agree with fluctiations and variances in used car prices. Also really hope that cars that you tune up and spend money on are able to retain value or even appreciate.
  • Online used car lots would be the ultimate. Would imagine that thousands upon thousands of user tuned/painted cars could be found there.
  • As a minimum user to user online car trading need included and it needs to be a simple process.
  • How about ability to browse your friends garages while in online mode.
  • Detailed history of each car should be include, meaning detailed spec's and parts added, total money invested, total miles driven etc., perhaps number of races won. For online use include original owner and maybe last 5 owners.

Remember in GT1 & 2, their were used car showrooms at some car manufacturers? (All Japanese) Not like in GT4. Don't you think they should put the certain used cars back into the dealerships? And have them not just mostly for Japanese dealerships, but for America, UK, Italy, and other Countries as well?
I've been waiting for someone to bring this up I totaly agree:tup:

Greenlightning, i can see most of your suggestions as agreeable, although the secret masterlist of cars to be revealed slowly as you progress is a definite no no in my opinion.
I really like to be surprised by the cars eventually included in GT5 although when i finally get to play it i want to know immediately which cars are included and which i aspire to own and choose my path accordingly, waiting for GT5 is one thing, waiting for all the cars to be revealed slowly is just too much.
Besides, if they want to keep it a secret, it will eventually be leaked on the net by those players with an advantage in game progress.

Ok, I'm gonna say something that, reading this thread, will most likely be a minority opinion.

I hate the whole idea of used cars, used car cycles & deterioration of cars.

- I want to be able to buy ANY car in the game, when I have the necessary credits at any given time.

- I do NOT want having to fix them up after I bought them.

- I want to be able to compare the cars in a state where they are brand-new, regardless of their production year.

- If I have the three above, I could maybe live with deterioration, if I drive a car a lot. (because I could still get it again in a perfect state)

And quite frankly, as much as I love the realism of driving in GT5, I don't care, if that's realistic or not.

The beauty of a video game is that it can give you this opportunity to drive a car from bygone eras as if it was yesterday. And that's exactly what I want.

A lot of those old cars were available only as "brand new" in GT4, some old cars were however only available as used, i can see your point but if those old cars previously only available as used were also to offered as "new" the whole problem you have would dissolve as you have the choice then only to buy new cars.
For the rest who do like used cars as a cheap option to get a nice car early up in the game used cars should still be available.

If the used cars come in a variety of conditions for a given year, surely its value will vary according to that condition? If so, you'd only have to wait for a low-milage example (there were a few of these in GT4, but they weren't that expensive - although, expensive enough to put me off buying them at times.) and Robert's your mother's brother!

Essentially, you either lay down a bigger stack of notes initially, or you buy a tattered version, and invest a few extra button clicks (and a comparable, more or less, amount of cash) in restoring the original condition. There's no harm in having both options.

Of course, tattered examples will probably be more plentiful, so there is an inherent balance, even if both routes end up costing the same. Ideally, restoration would cost marginally more, depending on how often showroom-mint examples become available.

The player-driven online market is a different affair, of course, and here restored examples could be sold for a profit to those who don't have the patience to wait for a mint example, or to restore their own. Of course, this shouldn't detract from the main game, in that GT5 should be perfectly playable without having to visit the online market - but the advantages should be obvious.

It would be fun if you could take a rusty old car and give it massive performance, a real wolf in sheeps clothing type of car

We call them 'sleepers' in Australia:)

I thought they called them sleepers everywhere?

Well that is the case for most.

But in the UK, you often see guys trying to do this with FWD hatchbacks, we have no classic muscle around to work with, we have old VW Golfs, Ford Escorts etc. Can't really call them sleepers, because they're always going to be quite slow.

They're called "wolves in sheep's clothing" where I'm from, too ;)

Lotus Carltons are pretty discreet, and also wholly rapid. I'm sure there are other examples :)

Mercedes 500E ( designed partly by Porsche ), Lancia Thema 8.32 ( with Ferrari V8 driving the front wheels ) and the least well known of all the Renault Safrane Biturbo ( build for Renault by Hartge in Germany ).

The "Test Drive" and "Walking around the showroom" ideas are excellent. I remember spending entire hours on my friends PGR2 doing this, and I remember how great it was to buy your own garage and order your cars as you want them in another Project Gotham game. Though, I wouldn't get my hopes high...:(

+1 million. I was going to say the exact same thing. That was probably the best thing about PGR2. if they implemented this in GT5 I would probably never go to college again.
