Using a wheel without pedals

I have just started trying out using a wheel. Only a t80 (yes some think it's trash) and started practicing without it. Is this something that other racers prefer to do

I just hate using them I have never drive I'll and find the pedals uncomfortable to use

What buttons do you use to accelerate/brake? I don't believe there are any pressure sensitive buttons on the wheel? Must be hard to maintain proper control driving like that :)

I use the paddles as I'm not good on gears

Unless you are physically unable, you should learn to use the foot pedals. The paddles and buttons on the wheel are could be basically on/off switches.

Buttons probably give you full throttle/no throttle, full brake/no brake. You have far more control with pedals , even if you think you don't like them.

There may be a time I may use pedals but at the moment I find using the pedals a chore. At the moment I am going round nurturing gp the same time as with the pad.

Unless your disabled i wouldnt recomend using on/off buttons for accelator and brakes. Even if your disabled i would look into customising some triggers to the wheel or something.

I feel it's no different to using ds4 using on off buttons in my style of driving it's a matter of opinion where both are fair point

I always played Racing Games with a Controller until GTS. I think it’s just a matter of getting used to it. Just play it how you feel most comfortable playing it. Although I would recommend you to take that time and use your paddles. Even if you think their crap, trust me it’s far better in long term than any On/Off Switch Input method.

In the end you should drive as you see fit of course, its your choice how to play the game.

Only reason i dont recomend it is because no modulation of the brake and gas is gonna limit your ability to reach faster laptimes at some point.

A buddy of mine (member here as well), past away a few years ago due to type 2 diabeties. He had his legs amputated. We would always race Daytona in GT5 because, just as you guys are saying, the buttons are on/off switches. He got INCREDIBLY frustrated when we would try to race the simplest of road courses, such as High Speed Ring.

Resting peacefully, @GTP_KILLAZ

Use on off similar to using pad. Only just started so getting head around best way to drive.

However a pad isn't on/off. The triggers allow for some modulation.

Maybe but I use triggers in an on off fashion. Similar to how I have started using a wheel. There is no absolute way to play the game which suits me fine.

This place is getting crazy. CSA is used because people are too lazy to steer, and now pedals are a chore. what's next, just watching the AI race for you? Bspec wooo!

Why is it lazy? Maybe to some it is. I find it a pain to use pedals (I don't have the right setup to use pedals with ease yet) so I don't use them.

Jeez I didn't say I can't. I said I don't like to. It doesn't make me go any faster. Comparing Alex zanardi who has raced probably all his life to me, who has just started using a plastic wheel on ps4 is definitely leagues apart

Don't take this too seriously, should have put an ;) in...

No worries apologies. Too many serious users telling me it's I can't race how I race when I'm trying to adapt that to wheel. That is a cool video

I haven't tried using the paddles at throttle/brake, but I imagine it's just fine and about the same as driving with a controller.
However, if you're saying that you are not comfortable with using the pedals, then perhaps you're not sitting correctly?
Do you drive in real life? If you do, I would advise to set up your seat, table and screen the same way that you'd sit in a proper car. You need to have the pedals in front of your feet, not directly under.

There's no right or wrong way and everyone should drive the way they feel is the most comfortable. However, a properly set up wheel/pedal/gearbox combo (or even better, a playseat) will give you a whole new feel of realism and that's the main reason so many people love it.

Use whatever controller in whatever way it suits you. There are no right & wrong ways to play a video game & enjoy it.

You might be interested in this wheel, as it's made without pedals (not PS4 compatible sadly though).

At the moment I don't have the right equipment at home to run pedals
I drive my G29 using my teeth to steer and my chin on the PS button as an accelerator. I cant be bothered to use my arms as they are always tired from sending emojis all day. It's fine though, I get the same lap times I used to get hitting a DS4 with a mallet.

Good for you big jimmy lad

At the moment I just don't have the right setup to get the most out of fully using hel pedals. In future I may but I don't really desire the need to acquire all the gear that is needed to implement the full realistic driving experience.
