I like to use R1 for the brakes (just like gta 3). its a lot easier to drive 'cos the handling is well better. So if you are using square for the brakes, try R1 .

I've often contemplated putting gas on R2 and and brake on L2. Maybe R1 and R2 would work as well. I'm too used to the defaults now to be changing things. A friend of mine uses the right analog for gas and break.

I use R1 for the handbrake/emergencybrake.

And square for the brake - it gives more control since it is analogue.

and here i thought most people use the analog...LOL i use left stick for sterring and right stick for gas/brake. i dunno, i find the precision to be like 1000% more then those nasty buttons. just me i guess :ghost:

Every button on the PS2 Dualshock2 is 'analog' ... with 256 points of contact each. However, you are correct that the stick does better than the button because it is easier for our thumbs to control sensitivity in the stick than with the button. But, It is also difficult to get used to it. Personally, I like the buttons because I've been doing buttons in my right hand since the days of Colecovision (sp?).

Using square for brake allows for much better braking control as you can "trail brake", carry brake thru the corner with some acceleration applied at the same time. You drive the cars more "go kart" style and even quickly apply a quick dab of the brake mid corner for higher stability. The styles are totally different. I prefer the sticks, hence you have to do all your braking well before the corner and power out on a nice clean line. I use R2 for handbrake as R1 is for changing up :)

both stix- more control esp. for FR cars for drifting. I've always played GT that way, since the original.

Here's my controller setup:
R/Analogue stick: Turn
L/Analogue stick: Accelerate/Brake
L1: NOT USED
L2: Change down
R1: Look behind
R2: Change up
X: Handbrake
O: NOT USED
Triangle: Change view
Square: Reverse

Hmmm, sounds difficult (is it?)
I think using the right analog stick is hard, and i prefere to use the left stick. but i like to use the directional buttons more than anything.

i guess i'm just used to using the directional buttons because i did on gt 1+2 (i had a normal ps1 controller)

If you were talking to me, then i don't find that setup difficult at all, and i have gotten very used to it. :)
