the racing sounds in this update made the game worse, wind noise inside the cabin is way too high and sounds like static. tire squeal sounds like you're driving on sand and is an absolute joke and you still cant hear a good exhaust note inside the car (which in real life thats mostly what you hear). disappointed, i hope they change it all back or pick something different

oooooh just tried a dodge viper SRT with semi racing exhaust, I have to admit I actually got slightly aroused !

I tried this last night but with a full racing exhuast and almost committed suicide! The drone below about 5500rpm is beyond terrible (it was literally pulsating in my head) and it's only the last 2000rpm that liven up.

i find stock or sport exhausts the best choice for V8 cars ( or any low frequency exhaust )

also , the sound has improved for me , the retarded electronic exhaust note
is much less noticable. still not perfect but hey , it's a game ;-)

Like a couple people have reported, I've also noticed some engine sounds being directed mainly on one side of the speakers.

I'm on a 5.1 system, and for example the Lexus IS-F Racing Concept: front engine, left-hand drive, in first person view most of the engine noise is coming out my left surround speaker.
I checked my settings, the balance is in the center, I'm not routing more volume to that speaker than the others, but sitting in the cockpit it still sounds as if the engine were sitting behind me, practically outside the left passenger door. Anyone get this also?

Yes. And It seems to be a problem for not just a few cars either. When I press L1 for rear view, it also reviels the same issue: the engine sound from a MR car are coming from right front and left surround speaker!

Maybe its supposed to simulate the effect of driving on the left side, and your left ear is right by the window so would pick up more than your right ear which is in the center of the cockpit? But to an exaggerated level.

Its a nice touch but needs refinement.

I was wondering this as well, but it might require a lot of study to see exactly which cars are affected in which way. It could be a nice touch if the sounds had more ambient range, which they've always needed anyway, now more so.

Everything with a Boxer-6 sounds much better than it used to (including the Legacy 3.0R, which sounds much more like the RUFs now), and I haven't even hooked my PS3 back up to my 6.1 system yet.

I absolutely agree with you. I cannot stand when things like this get tinkered with. The wind noise is so aggravating and overpowering now that I no longer can enjoy the game. This is a MASSIVE issue for me, because I've played GT5 almost everyday since last November.

Hey Polyphony Digital: PLEASE PUT IT BACK THE WAY IT WAS!!!!!! IT DIDN'T NEED FIXING!!!!!!

Am i wrong here but if you adjust the volume of the sound effects (race) in the options menu, that helps? i got it at 80% and the wind is very subtle and realistic to me. could be wrong here tough but try it.

You are wrong. The wind noise its the only thing that maybe could be 10-15% quieter because BUT if you ever experienced speeds over 120kmh in real life you start to notice that the wind noise gets louder and louder. In most common cars @ 200kmh you can't listen to your engine unless you got a performance/noisy exhaust...

The tire noise is better and give you more feedback to what's happening with your tires while cornering.

And saying that you can't enjoy the game anymore because of that its just... exagerated.

The sound improvements made the game better. It's still lots of room for improvement, but I'm enjoying it a lot more. The sounds are cleaner and in most cases, less synthetic.

Yep yep, even in small formula cars you start losing engine noise to the wind at top speeds. But I was testing at Fuji this past week and the GT 86 TRD was being tested. You couldn't hear the car at all down the front straight, all you heard was the wind being pushed around it. And it's going a good 230kph

In-cabin wind noise is toned up a bit and front engine noise ...just misses.

Most people dislike the "engine" sound in GT. It's that that gives rise to all the "vacuum cleaner" and "sewing machine" comments, I think.
The fact that the engine sound is devoid of intake and other interesting things (like turbo effects) means that people would rather not hear it at all (I cite all the comments about having the rear-view mix as the normal mix, prior to 2.02; the rear-view is / was dominated by exhaust.)

It's possible the mix has been tweaked to be more exhaust dominant, or just that the "engine" has been made to be quieter, so it's drowned out by the wind and tyre noise at speed. But that's actually realistic. If the game had intake noise, you'd still hear that over the wind and tyres, especially if tuned / modified / unsilenced.

BAN!

whats your favorite album?

Guys, try adjusting your GT5 sound settings between Living Room, Small Theater and Large Theater. I've found (using my Turtle Beach headset) that Small Theater has really loud wind noise but if I switch to Large Theater the wind noise is much less and the engine noise is much more pronounced. Living Room seemed to have less wind noise too.

I've really noticed this. I used small theater because I used tower speakers in my basement, but for my room I have to use the TV speakers, and living room fit the speakers much better. There is way less wind noise with this setting.

Arent Turtle Beach terrible? I tried one and everything sounded like a 22khz or less mp3.

Depends which one you tried. But I use SteelSeries Siberia's (Because it works on Xbox, PS3, and PC) and the game sounds fantastic. I haven't even needed to adjust anything.

Just wanted to say the Dodge Viper GTS with a sports exhaust sounds amazing, try it!! Also a Viper ACR with full racing exhaust is really loud! Kind of blown away by how different these cars sound now.

But in bumber cam (which I always use) or interior view, the unique sounds of the each car are rediculously muffled and kinda all sound the same.

That would be in line with IRL. Any engine sound captured from the front of the car will be severely masked/muffled by the wind and the fact that you are "running away from the sound" as opposed to the rear cam where you are "running into the sound".

Nice to hear, but what do you have your PS3 set to output for sound through HDMI? Because I set mine to use LCPCM 5.1 at 48kHz all the speakers are distance set to where I use my wheel from. GT5 stock vehicle sounds are pretty much on point, unless something is wrong with your setup(might want to get that looked at).

You're using a 7.1 setup and you say the surround mixing is horrid?

The mixing is horrid. The imaging mainly. And the car sounds are very compressed just like others have mentioned them sounding.

My setup is set to 7.1 over HDMI, it's also mic calibrated (audyssey) at reference, movies sound amazing, forza 3 sounds amazing, GT5 sounds horrible.

It's not my setup. Trust me.
