Version 2.02 "Improved Racing Sounds"

Not really. Many race cars have tranny's that are that loud. Skip Barber RT2000 is a good example.

Yes. But what about a Shelby Cobra? A Ford GT? Keep the exhaust stock on both of them and install that transmission. You can hear the transmission whine loud enough in third person, let alone cockpit view.

On topic: I hope they make the supercharger sounds louder, and apply it to more cars.

Do aftermarket superchargers emit any noise in GT5? I think not. I haven't noticed at least, but I haven't touched GT5 since last summer and my memory might be failing.
They should add a completely new sound effect just for them.

The standard Chevrolet Camaro '00 does with the aftermarket, not sure about stock, but in cockpit/front view you can hear a faint noise of a supercharger whine.

Yeah, cockpit view is slightly too loud at the moment. But if they make the in car engine noises how they should be, I think it would be fine. If you install a racing straight cut transmission to a Shelby or a GT, the whine would still be dominant though.

Well the car sounds in forza 4 are just pure awesomeness so hopefully gt5 can at least meet that level of awesomeness

I can almost guarantee you that it's the "engine" sound. As far as I've been able to tell, there isn't a supercharger sound at all. Probably because there's no intake for it to emanate from :P

I swear I can hear one! I'll have to record it with my crap camera so you know what I mean.

Yeah I've never heard it. Although on some cars the racing transmission substitutes it fairly well.

The sound only really kicked in until a certain RPM, then decreased in frequency as I changed gear. Didn't sound like a racing transmission. I could also hear the faint transmission separately as well.

That loud whine is the transmission. It's the customizable one that does that.

Haha this. I remember in ye olde days of GT3 one of the licences you had to drive the Lancia Thing and it made a screwed up sneezing sorta sound when you changed gear.

But I'll bet there will be no change to Engine Sounds. I'd says when you smash into cars, Screeches that sorta stuff.

I would like them to have totally redone sounds for some cars such as:

Lamborghini Murcielago (sounds like a V10)
Ferrari Enzo (sounds like a v8)
Mazda 787b (sounds too 'loopy')
Mazda Furai (sounds like a 2 rotor)
+more I can't think of

Aside from the obvious incorrect sounds, I think a general remixing of sounds (with an emphasis on implementing intake noise if they are part of the original samples PD recorded, hopefully!!) would make GT5 a totally new game for me.

I think the sound engine, at it's best (FD RX-7 with any of the exhausts for example) sounds far better than FM4 at it's best (totally synthesized sounding, because it largely is) So, GT5 is capable of sounding really good, it just doesn't in a lot of cases.

Take it to the top of 5th gear. Listen to the woefully horrible looping noise. It also sounds like it constantly missing. It should be absolutely smooth, just listen to this and compare:

Evo magazine claimed it as the loudest and basically best noise a car has ever made. It should sound perfect in GT5, not just sort of right...especially due to the Japanese connection

It's cool, I think I have that car, I'll check it. ;)

EDIT: The '00 SS does have a strong whine to it, but it's there in stock form. Adding the supercharger makes no difference, which surely needs to change!

It's practically the same sound, spectrally speaking, just a bit harder edged. It's an easy update, right? :D

About the 787B. It's a four rotor that revs to, what, 10 000 rpm? That's like a V8 revving to the same speed, or a straight four to 20 000 rpm! But the 787B uses a single exhaust, like the HSV-01 (which is why the latter sounds like a F1 car, despite only having half the revs). I guess that's why they sound similar, the more brutal nature of the rotary's rate of change in port area (higher pressure spikes) giving it that meaner edge.
Just thinking out loud. :)

Agreed! That's indeed one of the most beautiful sound i've heard in a car and GT5's sound of it it's just not right.
By hearing it in any youtube video I get goosebumps, and that doesn't happen at all with GT5's sound.
And you're right about the looping noise.👍 It makes it sound even worse. :yuck:

My only hope (that won't happen) is the removal or quieting of the annoying FC transmission whine.

And maybe make the engines sound as loud and awesome as they should in car games.

The sounds are better than in any game, so I can't think of how PD can improve them.

This.
Go play GT5:Prologue and witness for yourself.

I'm hoping for minor nerfs and things as such, I don't expect any miracles since the sound's good as it is.

With the 787, in car it gets loopy and all, but when I was in a room with a few people using them on Nurb, I would park on the back straight and turn the volume way up any time I needed to take a break, and it sounds better that way. Not saying it shouldn't be improved though. The 3-Rotor RE Anemimiya (however you spell it) sounds like a two-rotor, and one of the reasons I bought it was for the 3-rotor sound. I was pretty let down.

I'm still hoping for epic turbo whistle on cars with the big turbo fitted. (although a stage 4 to take the supra rz to 1000+hp a la gt4 would be even better)

The premium RE Amemiya car sounds pretty good. It's a little subdued, but I think the tone is more 3 rotor than 2 rotor.

The 787B is probably the most savage sounding car ever made. Chris Harris described it rather well, which I've uploaded for everyone's reading pleasure:

That's very pessimistic.
I bet if PD never brought this update forward, there would be less complaining.
Take any improvements to the game (however how small) as a bonus.

Stay positive man, nothings been released yet.
We might be in for a surprise (hype it up ;)
I registered here in 2009.
One thing I've learned since I follow PD/Sony's news and Kazunori's tweets: they don't deliver. If they do, it takes them 5 times more than any other developer.

Sure they've added Spa and some features the fans wanted....but sounds (engine/exhaust samples) are their Achille's heel.

I think it refers they will be improving the sounds that surrounds the car, like in previous GT games, when you were driving at 100 Km/h and you can hear the sound of the air that you're cutting. I'm also expecting that they improve the car sounds.

Heh, I have that issue ("Sound of Speed"), unsurprisingly.
Go here.

Sweet! :D Thanks for those! 👍

GT5 has some of the worst engine sounds. If they were not so bad it would be laughable. Other racing games have done way better. The top video is of a C3 Corvette in GT5 vs real life. The 2nd is the horrible ZR1 RM and the 3rd is of a C6R from Mid-Ohio to compare with the ZR1 RM. Now how is it that GT5 has good sounds?:scared:

For people saying the sounds in GT5 are "good"....have you ever played another game? Just about ANY other racing game? Even some 10 years old?

The sounds in GT5 are poor. I just dont get how anyone could think they are decent, unless GT5 is the only game they have ever played.

The RM Corvettes are completely off, but the stock Vettes sound just fine.

Go to 2:30 or so and listen from there. It sounds pretty much like a Stock Z06 to me. Again, some more induction noise would help, but it's pretty good/accurate.

And the RX-7 I talked about earlier, sounds pretty damn good:

For reference:

Z06 in FM4:

RX-7 in FM4:

Both sound equal parts incorrect and just bad quality.

And just for kicks real life + PGR4
Z06

RX-7
Don't mind the music:
