Just beat GT World Championship and was pretty excited when I found my new Veyron in the delivery truck. I thought I could beat Like The Wind, only to find it severely lacked in the acceleration department, despite having over 950 horsepower. In addition, the thing suffers from a bad case of understeer, so I had to slow down way more than everyone else on the Indy course. What are your thoughts on this car?

It's a big, heavy, overpowered AWD car that relies solely on power to get any sort of performance going.

In other words: Overhyped.
That thing will never hang with race cars, let alone LMPs. Not even around an oval track.

yeah, you can't expect this car to beat like the wind, it's just twice as heavy as the other cars, and can't handle any good

Some would disagree with you, and a lot of other people on here too.

#1 for the Veyron SS and #8 for the standard model. And the TG test track isn't really a 'fast' track.

It does, however, provide enough straight lines to make the acceleration matter due to the massive amount of HP a lot.
However, it's pretty common sense that a car that heavy isn't going to be able to handle nearly good enough to hang with race cars, just because it has massive power.

Its an undrivable heap in real life, and the same in game. Fairly accurate representation.

Even Gordon Murray was surprised how good it drives. If you don't like the car that's fine, but don't mock it with false "facts".

Yay another Gayron thread! Anyways, its a horrible car. Weighs like tugboat. Turns like a tugboat. Looks like a tugboat. It is a tugboat. ;)

Yep, you can only be disappointed if you had high hopes for it in the first place. I won one and got another from a level 24 ticket (I think, it was a ticket anyway) and traded them both... One for a 2005 Mustang, and the other for the Evo Super Rally car. I really hate the Veyron, personally. Impressive piece of engineering, but that doesn't make it a good car.

Having said that, the Caterham Seven is one of my favourite cars ever, so you can see why a car that weighs around 4-5 times as much (the engine alone probably weighs the same as a Seven!) wouldn't be my idea of a fun drive.

I don't wish to fan the flames or anything, but being surprised doesn't mean it's good, either, it just means he had very low expectations...!

Just because someone is surprised how good it drove, doesn't necessarily mean it drives well.

If you gave a mentally handicapped person a algebra test and they scored higher than a 1, you'd be surprised how well he did.

It annoys me how the Gayron is the only vehicle in the used car dealership with 0 miles on it.

I'm not disappointed with it because I knew exactly what to expect. I've been telling people this for a long time already: the Veyron is an undeservedly overhyped wheelbarrow filled with monkey turds and doesn't even come close to deserving the ceaseless adoration it gets.

This is why I've had to jump in with criticisms every time I see topics with people nominating the Veyron as a car they most want to see upgraded to Premium or one they felt should have already been Premium. People keep drooling over it as though it's God's gift to the automotive world when it's really more of Cthulhu's.

I hope to God that millions of people get their virtual hands on this thing in GT5 and see that it doesn't deserve their worship so we can let the hype die already.

False facts? It's hard to argue with real-world results like taking it around a track that other cars and supercars have also been around and simply comparing their lap times. When lesser cars post faster laps than the Veyron, it becomes undeniable that the car has some serious weaknesses.

Oh I'm not disputing that it will never handle as well as a race car, or even another supercar with less weight, but I will dispute those that can't understand how to drive it and blame it on the car.

You are aware who Gordon Murray is and what he said about the Veyron before he drove it?

While I agree with you, I kinda understand people wanting the Veyron to be premium. It's a pretty big engineering feat in and off itself. I'd rather see the Veyron as a premium car than a Prius, at the very least, even though I, personally, like neither. :dopey:

Exactly, but somehow people expect it to be the be all, end all hyper car that can and will destroy everything out on the track. Mostly because a lot of people seem to focus on the HP figure only, I guess.

Yes, it's a boat, but I was able to beat Like the Wind at Daytona with it. You can muscle it through the infield and leave everyone on the banking. If it's not working for you, you might need some tuning & setup. Didn't work for me at Indy though. Won't hold the speed through the corners.

Okay, I understand the original post sounded kind of n00bish, but what I was trying to say was that after beating a tough series, I expected to get a car that could actually be put to good use. Even in this respect, the car is utterly disappointing.

Haven't tried it at Daytona yet.

You'd better get used to it. There's just a fistful of good prize cars. Most suck.
The best cars you can get are probably the Zonda R and the Mazda Furai from B-Spec and the Minolta Toyota 88C-V from A-Spec. Well, and the X2010 from the S. Vettel Challenge :sly:

It annoys me how children these days use "gay" as a perjorative for things they don't like.

I guess most people who play GT5 online are children and annoy you then? Most people use that when someone brings one in the race to be a jerk and ram everything with its massive weight. I'm glad I annoy you though, I don't come on these forums to please you. There isn't nothing marvelous about its engine either. Two v8s stuck together and 4 turbos isn't something to brag about that only produces around 1200hp in the SS. Look at the SSC Ultimate Aero . Thats something to brag about when half the engine and turbos produces even more hp. ;)

I hope they add the SS version as a premium later on. It may turn better than the regular version, and at least this way it would be cool to see the inside of it.
