Lap times around the ring.
TVR speed 12 : 6:13.994
Dodge Viper ACR : 6:18.562

The TVR takes the cake here.
It's just so insane and unique.
Like the ACR too, but it just can't compete.

Racing softs there, you have to bear in mind that they're both road legal - which means sport softs.
And I'm pretty sure that with my tune Viper can go even faster than that.

I believe he has every right to use Race Softs, even on street cars. With so much power, RS tires could reflect each car's ability.

I've tested both cars on sport softs and racing softs.

One lap around Nordschleife:

Sport Soft
TVR Cerbera Speed 12 - 7:00:014
Dodge Viper ACR - 6:45:227

Racing Soft
TVR Cerbera Speed 12 - 6:28:761
Dodge Viper ACR - 6:27:966*

* I've made 2 mistakes there, went off the track.

I've made tunes for both cars, Viper tune is awesome but I don't have Speed 12 experience. I've tuned the transmission and LSD right, so I don't have problems with the power distribution, but the problem is steering, Speed 12 doesn't like steering. If anyone has proper suspension setup (which solves the understeer) for the Speed 12, please PM me.

Who ever says the viper is faster really does not know much about the cars and how they look when they are compared. Not only is the Speed 12 is lighter but it clearly has more performance points and more power so TVR Speed 12

Lol at this post. Performance points? Really?

Viper ACR is about 10-15 seconds faster around the ring and the TVR doesn't drive properly even with tuning.

👍
Speed 12 has massive understeer problems.
Even with proper tuning it'll still be slower than Viper around the Ring.

The viper has lots of Weel spin
So the speed 12 Will win i gues

You just won the internet..

Seriously, I just covered my laptop in spit from the spontaneous "HAHAHAHA" that just happened, and I do not mean that in a negative way at all.

I must however ask - have you ever driven a speed 12 in-game?

Probably the car in GT5 that can make most wheelspin, the car is utterly bat**** insane.

That say - I love it. One of my favourite cars in the game. You fight the weird mix of insane understeer and oversteer in the corners, and when you find a road just remotely straight, you floor the damn thing and watch everyone disappear in a cloud of smoke.

Best muscle-car ever, even though it's british and more of a supercar. It just has that "goes-like-hell" attitude.

I voted for the Speed 12, because:
- I've never driven my Viper ACR stock, let alone tuned.
- I love the almost vitriolic noise the Speed 12 makes when you so much as look at it.
- Hitting 240mph in the Speed 12 is actually terrifying.
- It's just a beast; probably the rawest, meanest machine in GT5. At least the Group C/LMP cars have aero.

That said, I don't think I've ever raced the Speed 12, I've only ever done hot laps. This is because I know it won't win against equal competition due to the fact that it handles very much like a brick on ice. Still, the sound and the fact that it wheelspins all day just makes me love it.

The Speed 12 has adjustable downforce at least, even though it doesn't really feel like it. :)

Well, it doesn't have anywhere near enough of it! I imagine the maximum downforce it can make is about the same as having a small puppy sitting on the bonnet (hood), where you need the downforce the least thanks to the huge V12 weighing it down.

So I ran a few laps on Nurburgring with both cars riding on Sport Soft tires.

Viper 6:46
TVR 6:53

I had done an initial setup on the Speed 12 using High Speed ring where it ran pretty good times. But the 'Ring is way different.

Because I spent so much time in 2nd and 3rd gears, I set them longer to give me more room.

Interesting note: I disconnected the TVR's supercharger and ran a 6:57. The car was much more controllable.

I am a rookie with both cars; especially on this circuit. The ACR might not be fully broken in as it now has 146 miles.

My main problem was the TVR breaking traction. I could work with the understeer because it's pretty predictable.

Both cars could run faster laps with a little more adjustment (and a driver with better skills).

I still think the Speed 12 is more fun to drive, but the Viper will always be a little faster.

PS. Take Dramamine before trying these cars on Nurburgring!

iamjajo, I'll send you my LSD settings for TVR. It's much more controllable (at least for me) than Viper. Still, it's slower and has huge understeer.
I'll also send you my ACR tune, I haven't forgotten.

I gotta say this, don't know what Jake was trying to say with that unusual statement, but when I read his post and you covering your laptop from your laughing made me do it also.👍

And you got it right on that monster Speed 12, the world's most monsterous and feared car on the planet. Even the world fastest Skyline, Supra, Viper & Vette can't keep up with it (and including Bugatti Veryon). Ultra understeer, extreme power, and unforgiving lap times makes this car a GOD among the Car Gods!!

Sorry Viper ACR, but the vote goes to the TVR :)👍!

P.S. The Car Gods were already posted in the above paragraph. :D

This made my day >:D

Speed 12 for me. It's stooopid fun to drive. Sounds so good through my sound system cranked right up.

When I feel like a drive for fun, TVR Speed 12.

When I want to burn some tyres, TVR Speed 12.

When I want to crash into cars (off line), TVR Speed 12.

When I want to just jump a car, TVR Speed 12.

Pity it does not wheely or I would probably marry it.

For anyone wanting to see pictures of the only road legal TVR Speed 12 here you go.

http://www.tvr-webmart.co.uk/tvr_full_advert.asp?ad=641

It was actually up for sale in 2009 and got bought by someone with an interest in harnessing the project of the car to make it exploitable on the road. Working with the TVR engineers that originally worked on the racing car it's been made to stay at 1000kg or so and put out around 830bhp in road legal form.

EVO magazine reviewed the car in Feb 2010.

I'm fortunate that my Uncle is very interested in TVR's (owns a Sagaris and a Griff 500) and knows a lot of people in the owners clubs and I've been fortunate enough to see this Speed 12 in the flesh and i can say that no matter what you do to a Viper nothing will ever come close to the presence that the Cerbera Speed 12 has.

Speed 12 for me. Viper has always been a beast of a car for me but the Speed 12 is head and shoulders above.

I would love to see TVR come back.

My 3 Vipers are all stock.. i shall soon add two more.. but regardless.. theyre quick as hell around trial mountain (even though a ZR1 can still serve it to them on a platter with fries and a drink)

TVR understeer is easy to correct. Drop the rear downforce to low, and put camber to 1,5ish in front, 1ish in rear. That's all it takes.

Viper is easier to drive on the limit, but Speed 12 has higher potential. It's just harder to reach.

Speed 12 for it's presense. ACR is just a corporate response to some of the high performing competing models around...

If you think the Viper, and ACR were just "corporate responses" then I don't think you really understand the car very much. It often gets praised for how not corporate it was.

Personally (based only on video games) I haven't used a TVR that drove well, and I think they're all pretty darn ugly. I don't care for the regular Viper's much, but the ACR is pretty amazing.

My new Speed 12 demolished a modded SL65 and Corvette in a straight line... stock.. the SL65 obvy caught it later but only because of the gearing in the stock tranny on the TVR.. this car is INSANE.. totally worth the wait.. i hope to get another one and modify it!

I'm sorry but I can't pick. I driven both cars, and I love both machines. Both can be modified to what can be considered uncontrolably powerful. But thats just it. I can control both of them, and both can corner quite well for being 230mph+ cars. Both can drift quite well. I can't pick between them. Both are great.

I haven't tried the Viper fully tuned, but I've run 6'57 in the Speed 12 on sports hards, 6'28 on sports softs and 6'01 on race softs.

Settings (and video of the 6'57) in this thread... https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=203400

The sub 7 minutes on sports hards challenge (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=201374) says that the Viper is faster though.

The speed 12 is faster than a speed 8, it's been proven, i've dragged a speed 12 vs. an ACR and my TVR won by alot yet the ACR is premium and costs alot less but fully tuned is less powerful and heavier than the speed 12, they are pretty equal but i prefer the speed 12
