Yeah the announcers said something about it looking like he's renting the car from Hertz. :lol:
 
Apparently they've had "solid offers" from potential sponsors, and some were very attractive, but they turned each one down because they didn't think the sponsor was the right one for them, and they are in no hurry to sign someone up simply so that they can say they have a sponsor. Personally, I think they're angling for a deal with a new manufacturer for 2013, and want to raise a few eyebrows.

Anyway, speaking of new sponsors, Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport lost Gulf Western Oils at the end of 2011, and have picked up iSelect for 2012. I posted as much yesterday, but bad lighting gave the car a washed-out look. Here's a few concepts of the actual livery as it is intended to appear:

Elsewhere, Garth Tander has opened his stupid mouth again and said that he welcomes Nissan to V8 Supercars, because someone has to finish third. Honestly, the man is such a tosser that Ian Kiernan should consider having Clean Up Australia Day sponsor HRT this year.

What's he supposed to say? "I sincerely hope that Nissan build cars that are much faster than my HRT Commodore?"
 
Maybe he could have just kept his mouth shut instead of making tactless comments.

Indeed, despite Lowndes first Adelaide pole, driver of the day was Webb. Hopefully he doesn't go too much backwards in the race.

Except that in this case, it wasn't friendly at all - Tander wasn't joking when he said it.
 
Does it matter? There always needs to be people you like and people you hate in motorsport.

One more hour til the broadcast starts 3 hours til race start. I really hope they show Alan JONES Williams FW07B today. It'll be going round the circuit all 4 days of the weekend but no mention of it yet.

Yes, it does. Tander is the lead driver for HRT, and HRT is the Holden factory team. Therefore, he is effectively the lead Holden driver, and if the marque was given the choice, he would be their preferred driver to win. So for him to bash Nissan on national television a year before they join the sport creates a very bad image, both for himself and for Holden. It's not the first time he's done it, either - three hours before Nissan was announced as joining the championship, Tander made fun of the Kellys on Twitter for it. Although Nissan's entry was the worst-kept secret in the sport at the time, Tander was the first person in a position to know about their entry to actually mention anything about it, so he effectively confirmed it - three hours before anyone wanted it confirmed, and with pithy comments directed at the Kellys. Of all the ways Nissan could have announced their intentions, having a driver from a rival manufacturer leak the news on Twitter with an insult directed at their drivers is probably the last way they wanted it done. Worse, Holden pretty much condoned Tander's actions; when Car of the Future was first announced, Simon McNamara warned other manufacturers not to waste their time entering the sport because there was nothing for them. And when Nissan finally did announce their entry, Holden didn't even bother to name them in a press release about their joining the sport.

What I'm trying to say is that Garth Tander is a driver who is a spokesperson for Holden, with a lot of fans and a lot of media attention. But, as we've seen in the past, he frequently opens his mouth and says something insulting or embarrassing or downright pithy, and Holden don't bother to pull him back into line because they privately agree with him. They don't want to see Nissan in the sport, and they especially don't want to see Nissan take four of their cars away from them. Compare Tander to other big names, like Craig Lowndes. Although Ford fans were upset when Triple Eight went to Holden, I know quite a few Ford fans who still have a lot of respect for Lowndes simply because he's such a good spokesperson for the sport. When Tander was asked about Nissan's entry, he said it was good because "somebody needs to come third". If Lowndes were asked, he'd likely say something along the lines of he welcomes the competition, but since everyone is in it to win, Nissan are going to have their work cut out for them. It's a much more positive way of saying it.
 
I think motorsport in general has quite enough drivers who repeat endless robotic drivel without ever saying what they feel. It's good for the sport to have figures who aren't always meekly towing the PC, socially acceptable line. I mean seriously, that sounds like it's straight out of the "How to live beige and offend nobody" handbook.
 
It's in Tander's interests to think about what he says before he actually says it. What he said was thoughtless and tactless, and really just makes him come across as an insufferable tool. It's all well and good to say you value personality, but you can still have interesting things to say without having to sacrifice your character to do it.
 
I'd prefer ten of Garth Tander to either one of the Kelly Brothers. Oh and how can you say it's thoughtless? He would've thought (and rightly so) that a comment like that would do wonders for sparking the embers of a new rivalry. Comments like that generate interest, I mean it isn't the Country Women's Association Needlepoint Championship after all.
 
At the track now. Warm day, no sign of rain yet but there seems to be a little bit of cloud on the way.

Edit: Perhaps a bit of a shower towards the end of the race, judging by the radar.

Was at the track. Had to head back out for Grandmothers birthday.
Was on the outside of turn 8 during that accident. Scared the absolute **** out of me and everyone around.

Williams FW07b sounded pretty good. Not nearly as loud as the V8 Supercars though. Really thought it was going to be louder.

Epic race. So disappointing for Davison running out of petrol on the second to last corner and costing across the line, still 2nd place.

I have been going to Bathurst since 2004 camp and alike. I have a feeling that they will unvail the new nissan cotf this year at the event.

I am watching clipsal atm and I am liking the plain jane tekno car (white cause they have no major sponser or partner)...
 
Great finish, really feel sorry for Will Davison. Missed it by that much.
 
Massively disappointed for Will Davison.

I couldn't help but notice that David Wall took his time getting out of Davison's way, but spared no expense in moving over for Jamie Whincup straight away. Maybe it wasn't the difference between first and second, but I think the stewards will be looking very closely at that.

Still, it's nice to see that FPR have managed to hit the ground running this year.
 
Gutted that Will had to gave it away as he was running on fumes! He looked a little bit dissapointed at first then he seemed to accept it. Still, I'm gutted and it would be fantastic if he wins the race...

Also dissapointed for Webb, I love Tekno's all clean-white car until Webb put it on a wall somewhere and lost 2 laps for fixing the damage. Fantastic car control by Craig though when his left rear tyres went away! :D

I won't be catching tomorrow's race live though as I'll be away but even if this first race has been a fantastic one, I will not skip the second race!
 
Great race today. I feel sorry for bright, thought he might of been competitive in the race. Also I feel sorry for Davision-so close but so far. No surprise that Whincup won, and once again Courtney didn't live up to his expatiation's.
To bad Webb couldn't finish in the top 10 after a great qualifying session and Tander had to come in for that splash and dash.:)
Can't wait for tomorrow's race!👍

No, not anymore. The idea is that you bolt up your panels to a spec chassis.

No, it doesn't matter what layout the car they base it off is, as long as it's a 4 door sedan, it's eligible.
 
See that's what I was thinking about the whole time. I thought the street car had to be RWD V8 so that lead me to believe that the car would be all new, or converting the Maxima (Altima down there?) to RWD.

Kind of disappointing really. :indiff:

Why would this series be any different to all the others? Nascar, GT1, GT3, Super GT, DTM...etc

By the way does anyone know how much more time untill race 2 starts?

I thought that 7 were showing it live but they're just showing qualifying now.
1h50m til Race 2 (2.35pm local time) They'll be showing the support races between now and then.
Porsche Carrera Cup then V8 Utes then the Touring Car Masters which is the best part of the weekend in my opinion.
