If the competition was made easier the judging would get harder. Besides, if you're not on competing level yet, don't compete.

I'm not being 'anal', I just don't understand the purpose of wanting to "sell" it and if you don't want money for it then you aren't "selling" anything. So, excuse me for questioning the word choice.

If you are trying to make a statement, the correct words should be used to get a point across. If he is using a word that is not what he means then he should choose his words more carefully. You call it being anal, I call it being right. It's not a huge deal, he just being defensive.
