Sato's time looked at first like he lost the will to race - and rightfully so! That punishment is way out of proportion.

What happened to Sato? What is his punishment, and what is it for?

He gets put back 10 places on the grid because he passed Button under waved yellow flags at the US GP.

And, Sato-fan or not, it's way too harsch considering Vitantonio Liuzzi passed under that same yellow flag, on the straight, while the cameras showed the flag already being waved, yet didn't get punished at all. Perhaps the Marshals know his car won't finish the next race, anyway?

I can't say much, just wait till' qualifying to see what happens. But it does seems the Ferrari "fiasco" did help Ferrari get a good time? The McLaren looks nothing near their performance in Canada and U.S. but maybe they are "sandbagging"?
Whatever it is,hope they do perform well in qualifying. It also looks like the Toro Rosso are the team to look for during the weekend. What's up with the lap times in Friday Practice 2?

Very late low-fuel runs.

And I reckon, if McLaren are sandbagging, they're not doing it by much - they've been trying, from what the tables look like. Ferrari, after reaching the mid-1'15s halfway through the first session, didn't improve much. McLaren improved by a good second or so from their fastest start-laps.

Ouch, that is harsh. For some reason I don't like infractions from one race affecting you in the next, but what else can they do?

Alonso was either pushing it or just wasn't himself...again. was watching Channel Five news and he had quite the off, skidding over the gravel cutting a corner, out the other side and onto some more gravel...managed to keep going though but...Fernando can't afford that in the race...

Nick might be replaced by Vettel , as he has a back injury :(

Aslong as Heidfeld is there for Silverstone, I'll be happy. :)

Just what Fernando didn't need, an engine change. All that time staring at Hamilton's rear wing didn't help him at Indy then.

So why did he sit idling at the end of the pitlane for 3 minutes before Q3?

Is Ferrari back? Could well be, let's hope Kimi has a good start, should make a nice battle. Look who didn't qualify 20th for once...Ralf, Trulli's still done better though, I really hope they can catch a point tomorrow, Trulli is doing a very good job in qualifying, constantly getting 8th's and 9th's in qualifying 👍

As expected, Sato didn't try much. One lap and out.
And as expected, the gap between both top-teams was very small.
And as expected... It was a kinda boring qualifying.

But Magny Cours is such an awesome track to watch. Completely awesome.

Alonso's first ever pre-race engine problem?

Anyone taking bets on when Fernando will burn his last bridge at McLaren with yet another dumb comment?

Just to correct myself, it was a gear box problem it seems, not engine. Either way it's going to require a change and a low starting place.

Woo! Ferrari are back, and Alonso had a problem. It’s going to be an interesting race for sure!

That was some troubled weekend for Alonso, huh? After being unable to take to the track for almost the whole Saturday Practice...

But Magny Cours is such an awesome track to watch. Completely awesome.

It looks old, an miserable...If they want to keep that track on the list for next year(s), they better update it because it's beginning to look really dull...

Dunno, I love that layout. Far better than, say, Indy - a curved banking has a limited amount of appeal. Super-fast chicanes don't - it made my day, seeing Button's Honda buzz around one of those chicanes like a lightning. Though the final chicane isn't very good - but then again, so are all those final chicanes.

I have to agree on this, the layout of the track is good no doubt (the straight leading the the Adelaide hairpin is awesome for overtaking maneuvers) but its in the middle of nowhere! The fans don't like nor does the drivers like it as well and all of this leads to poor revenues.

And besides that,i think they should change to a better circuit in France.Magny Cours is just too long to be in the F1 calendar.

Personally I like the layout, it promotes overtaking and has some pretty fast turns, especially Nurburgring Chicane and Imola Chicane.

As for qualifying, Alonso has a race on his hands for sure and Ferrari have turned up with a good car for the first time since Barcelona. Kubica did very well to only be half a second off Massa but that could be more to do with fuel than the car, Trulli has been impressive all season in qualifying.

But what happened to Red Bull?! DC with a box full of 6's and 7's and Webber mysteriously in the garage for most of Q2, very poor performance. Honda seems to have gained a little with Button beating Barrichello and both Super Aguris and Speed done a good job to be in Q2.

Result Prediction:

1st: Hamilton
2nd: Massa
3rd: Raikkonen
4th: Alonso
5th: Heidfeld
6th: Kubica
7th: Kovalinen
8th: Button

Congrats for Massa for his pole and too bad about Alonso. So will he be placed 5 places back?

10, Appie. 10. Just like the Singapore government, they're not very inventive - standard fine in Singapore is 500$. Standard punishment in Formula 1 is 10 places back.

Even for unjustified things

He hasnt changed his engine yet ;), it was a gearbox problem by the sound of things.

It was announced to be a gearbox problem - but that means high probability of engine-change.

So if you change a gearbox then it will be 5 places dudes.

YAY Ferrari is back :sly: I hope Kimi wins tomorrow. He really needs to close that gap in the championship.

And its also nice to see Schumacher tearing up the track in his own FXX with Zidane as a passenger :)
