It sold for $29.6 million
Making it most expensive car publicly auctioned

Jalopnik

Not suprised.

Few weeks ago, I watched a documentation about pre WWII silver arrows from Merc and Auto Union and a expert said those cars could break every sale record easily.

The W196 wiki page even says the Uhlenhaut coupe (road legal 300SLR, the LeMans version of this car)is worth 80million.

Edit: Funny Fact, whoever the owner is, if he ever decides to take this car back home to germany, he will not be allowed to turn the engine on because the fuel mixture this car runs is banned - atleast for public events. Mercedes always runs W196 not with the F1 engine, but with the LeMans one.
On youtube there is a video of Schumacher and Rosberg driving 2 W196s, Schumacher LeMans spec IIRC, on the Ring. This is the only footage I have found featuring the F1 W196s engine sound.

Unbelievable - a Mercedes W196 "Streamliner" from 1954 that was found in a barn will be auctioned at Goodwoods in July.

I thought all of these were tucked away in Merc's factory museum! Gosh, what a find!

Has it been sold yet? And if so how much did it go for?

Read the thread, and you'll get your answer I promise.

I think the ultimate thing to happen is hope that a new member will come along and claim they own this car or know who does and personally get to see it.
