"back in my day..."
back in my day, there were no DLC packages and we had to play gran turismo how it came in the package.... i'm loving the updates and such, and you wont find me complaining. the game had started getting dull for me, until spec2.0 and dlc got released.
anyone else play the GT series from the beginnng? what are your thoughts?

Yeah I remember making do with the game as it was before online play ever even existed, it never got boring either.

But.. since technology as advanced since the 90's in a big way its become a normal part of gaming, you just take DLC and Online play for granted now and without it.. the game would get boring after a while. Especially for me as I'm in my early 20's now and the DLC gives me a reason to keep going back to it, otherwise I'd put the controller down and leave it for months on end before I go back to it for no other reason apart from having nothing else better to do. So.. Download Content for the win.

I have been playing the Gran Turismo series since GT1. My favorite car was the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo VR-4. 930bhp.

Back in my day, i played GT5. Because i live now. And now, there is no snow and no mountains around my city. And no stupid title.

People are way to uptight in here

Not going to lie...I didn't know about GT until gt4, and I'm 25. Well that's a lie too...I played gt and gt2, but I don't remember much, only the ford gt90. Every since I saw the gt90, I was obsessed with it. Anyway...gt4 came out, I was semi homeless and down on my luck, and a buddy had it. I played it for 18 hours non stop then I "borrowed" the game, and never, ever stopped. My buddys and I use to play gt4 non stop, just drinking some beers and winning races to buy cars and tuning them. I love gt because of that. Too bad I'm 3,000 miles from my friend now, or I would be playing gt5 with him non stop as well.

 ditto.. that car owned.

To the OP: I'm with you all the way mate!

The "youth" of today expect too much to be simply handed to them on a plate!

I have played GT since it first took to the shelves. I just got my first PlayStation, and my sister bought it for me :D Everybody in my house knew I loved cars from an early age, so I was delighted! I remember not being able to race not very well on it, and got frustrated, and stopped playing it all together after about 2 weeks haha. GT2 came out, and again, my sister bought that, but for some reason, I was able to play this one quite well, so from then on, I was hooked :D

The GT series really has evolved for me, obviously with the likes of the dual shock controllers on the PS2 making the rumble strips more realistic, to the way the graphics have gone. I sometimes see a YouTube vid of say GT1, or Metal Gear Solid (the original and best one out of the MGS PS titles :P) and look at the graphics, and simply think "how on earth did I play that!? The graphics are a mess" But back then, they were jaw dropping!

The likes of downloading content to add to your gaming experience and playing online is brilliant in itself, and I applaud the man who made it possible for us. Yes I know GT5 wasn't as "polished" as it could have been at launch, but look at what we have a year down the line, I am truly grateful for the work that PD is doing to make GT5 what it should have been day 1, so I think they should be given a break from the negative talk for once!

At the end of the day, nobody is perfect. Nothing in this world is perfect, not even the keyboard warriors who moan and complain day in day out about why something wasn't added in.

Fully agree with that, I dont like to see all these hater threads so was pleasently surprised to read that.

you've never heard that phrase used by the elderly? they would often joke when us kids complained about walking to school. they'd say "back in my day, we walked to school, in the snow, uphill both ways."

obviously you cant walk uphill both ways unless you took a completely different route. people are taking this thread too seriously. this isnt a "how old are you and when did you start playing GT?" this is just for the older gamers to remince about how we didnt get new cars or tracks uploaded via DLC and still played the game for days on end. when the game was completed, that was it.

I've always thought that downloadable updates and content are allowing developers to release buggy/unfinished games.

Even in the Gran Turismo series; sure there were bugs in all of the previous Gran Turismo games, but none were as serious as some of them that are still a problem with the game. Even after a year of release, and a "major" update.

I'm an older gamer also and have been playing Gran Turismo since the beginning. The updates and DLC is fine but the biggest game saver for me would have to be the online racing. With out the online racing the game is pretty much completed for me.

Also, back in the days of GT1-4 we only had a 6 car field and the only way to racing against another person was in split screen mode. It was fun an all but when you played split screen you were only racing against the other person and no other cars which quickly got boring.

Garage bug in GT2 lolsup?
Lost all my hard earnt cars, never played GT2 after that (broke the GT Life disc and gave the Arcade away).

I was fortunate to never have been bit but the GT2 garage bug.

 I assume you're specifically referring to daveydeez quote "obviously you cant walk uphill both ways unless you took a completely different route."

... which of course is something he should rethink for a second.

This was my way of looking at it lol.

yeah I lived close enough to ride a bicycle to work for a while and it was uphill both ways because of a big hill in the middle! kept me in good shape but after a long day of wrenching on cars that longer uphill on the way home sucked.

a bunch of tight asses in here, and im being threatened by the ban hammer by a mod. no biggie, i'll just create a new account and stick to the tuning and marketplace section of gtplanet.

Hey my first GT1 car was an 80s Supra, great bang for my buck. My first racing game was the arcade pole position flying around Fuji, waaaay back before they doubled the number of corners.

So when I start programming we don't use to have windows and icons just 1 and 0, and sometimes only 1 or the letter I.

Comeeee oooon...

Misleading title >_>
Agreed.

Very misleading title and its been done before, SEARCH
Or you can just shut up and keep your useless comment to yourself.

OT: Big change from the PS2/Xbox. Used to deal with bugs, mods, etc. Now we have patches and DLC :D. Gran Turismo 5 would be absolutely doomed if they never had patches, Spec 2.0, or DLC (no OCD, seasonals (which would be a 🤬), gifts, etc.).

Even then you get the complainers who, in my mind, are just impatient and want DLC/patches right NOW.

This isn't Call of Duty. This isn't Forza. This is Gran Turismo 5.

My first gt game was 3. Many things have come a long way, but one thing has not.... engine sounds :yuck:

All games have DLC now-a-days, don't they?

Great thread.

Seems like everyone wants to complain about the freebies and awesome deals we get in GT5.

Wah - I didn't get a good b'day car
Wah - The OCD has a car I just bought
Wah - I already had the Redbull
Wah - They reduced the payouts for the Seasonals

I love the GT series and have played since GT1. Like several people have said, that was when what you got was what you got.

PS. I think PDI intentionally put some bugs and flaws in GT5 just to give the forum hens something to talk about.

There should be something in the forum rules that your post must actually contain some words. GTP is doing okay, but I see it slowly creeping in. Most other forums are the same eight pictures from 4chan with the same meme repeated ad nauseum.

Come on GTP make a stand, be the last bastion of civilized debate. This is the only forum I know of that upholds any standards, don’t falter now.
