Warnings/Bannings

Ive recieved hundreds of PMs, none of which were warnings from the administration.
Because your PM inbox was full.

The only one I ever recieved was posted publically. I forget which super mod it was, but he said it was the only way he could think of to notify me. Hey, thats another reason for me to point out how poorly this banning was executed. The only way to notify me? He must not have taken the time to notice that I had several forms of contact listed publically.
1) I do this voluntarily… I'm not going to waste my time starting up AIM and seeing if you're there just to give you a warning.
2) I personally have a policy of doing all warnings on the site itself, whether that means by PM or on the forum. This way, the warning is documented and saved forever, in case Jordan or someone else needs to look at it (yes, I save all of my PMs). Doing it off-site means that it's not as available to other mods if actions need to be reviewed, and I don't have the time to site around and guess if the email address in your profile is one you actually use. I've actually sent a warning to a user by email before, but never got a response, so now I always do it by PM or on the site so that I can keep tabs of whether or not that person received/read it.

I even went out of my way to say if I really was being so widely reported (and not just biased against from the administration because I didnt like the gtpremium racket) that they could just ban me from the entire community and just leave my access restricted to the photography and graphics forum.
I guess that was too hard.
Yes, it was too hard, because it's impossible. It's either ban or no ban. If you don't like that, complain to the developers of vBulletin.

I'm sorry? Have you not been warned enough about this or something?

Is there some way to not just ban/not ban on a 3rd offense? Does it have to do with the possiblities of the software used to develop the site? the scripting/programming or what? I just have some ideas to strongly get the message across that a mod isn't kidding, i.e. instead of just banning on a third offence, you could reset the account or "ground" them from GTP for a certain amount of time or something. Something along those lines. I just found it odd that one day I couldn't do anything. It's like comming home and your house is empty. You're left there going "...wth just happened...".

Actually, we do have a temp ban system.

However, the temp ban is not a first thought for most of us.

In fact, to moderators like myself a temp ban is only considered when the member in question is a long term member showing only moderately poor behavour.

To me members worthy of a second chance are few and far between, the reason I rarely consider a second chance for any one is because IMO you have to earn a second chance.

You aren't garunteed a second chance.

Remember, a second chance is a previlige, not a right. ;)

You get banned when the admin bans you, I wouldn't think it's automated. Either way, like Neon said before discretion is used in some situations. A mod isn't kidding when he tels you youve been warned, ever. If you think he is then thats your problem, not the mods. It's not their responsibilty to ensure you read your PM's or keep space in your inbox ect, thats all up to you as it should be.

This is perfectly said.

A warning is for real, plain and simple.

Even some of the most active and contributing members of this community have learned that they must take heed of any moderators well-founded warnings.

Keep that in mind next time you get a warning, it might just save you a whole bunch of trouble.

Then again, I hope you manage to never end up with a warning again... so good luck and remember to keep your head straight. ;)

Good members have always and will always be respected here. 👍

I wasn't incinuating any of that...

I used the scripting as a reference to when Sage said certain things weren't possible for the website to do.

Really? Wow, isnt that something. You must really believe that any member at this forum who isnt apart of the staff has no experience running a VB system.:ouch:
In the admin CP or just by plainly clicking my name to direct you to my profile, you can set user preference. There, you can select what forums are accessable to that particular user.
Or did you just think all the non staff members simply choose not to read the staff forum? 💡
Nothing is impossible with a VB, thats why people regularly spend $160 for one instead of those junky free systems.:)

 Search button broken is it?

If you didn't like the premium service you didn't have to be so spiteful.
You managed to get a warning from the Administrator...that takes some doing
Warning 1

Warning 2

More polite Warnings

Here...search some more and read your own posts...click

Your whole tone is offensive...I know you don't think these mods are tolerant, but I'd ban you now, just for the hell of it.

No one owes you a membership here.
#1 contained no warning whatsoever. #2 was the warnign I was reffering to earlier.
#3, well, I found rather unnecessary seeing that the site has a self-censor function set. Im sorry if my asterisks offended anyone.:indiff:

"You can belittle the "quality" of my website all you want, but I will not tolerate your slanderous claims aimed at denigrating my personal character." - Jordan

I would consider that a warning.

Your digging a hole for yourself here, in thoes three theres one very lcear warning and two subtle warnings but I'm getting the feeling that thoes arn't the only three times a mod has asked or warned you to stop.

This sites here for people to enjoy, not to start arguments with the mods. Just find the forum that suits you and enjoy it, get on with people and keep offensive remarks out. I don't know you at all to be honest but from Sage's comment in the second link you seem like your okay most of the time, take his advice and don't get banned again. I've been here well over a year and enjoyed it.

Thats exactly what I did, friend. I found a forum I liked and stayed there. I rarely stray from it, let alone the only thread I post in. Then I found the price of the GTPremium thing absurd, commented on it, and got my warning from Sage. That was then the end of that. A week or so later I was banned with no warning.
I really dont get it how people cant see where Im coming from. One issue was stated then stopped. All over, never mentioned again until today or whenever I first posted in this thread. Then a week or so later Im banned with no warning. I even stayed away a month to cool off. Then I asked for an explanation, got nothing.
And if so many comaplained against me, then how come in the only thread I post in I recieve no negativity?
Sorry L4S, only the first 2 sentences were directed at you. :)

Well just for the record,
Personal insults can be and are considered a violation of the AUP.

Refference the AUP in my signature if you want.

Hey autotooned, I've been banned before, and I recieved little or know warning, and I realise the mods were right...so why don't you? In case you didn't read the EULA, it states you can be banned any time for any reason, and you accepted that. So stop complaining.

AutoTooned -- You've had your say. We know what you mean, where you are coming from, but we also have explained things to you simply, and have answered your questions. Must you keep persisting? PS has learnt why he was banned, and has accepted everything, and he also looks to be very much redeeming himself as a better member. You, on the other hand, seem to only want to complain and argue. You're digging your own grave here. I suggest that you accept that you weren't a well-behaved member in the past, and I also suggest that you make a strong effort to redeem yourself if you want to remain here and stop wasting everybody's time by complaining about the moderation and administration.

Hey, it helped didn't it?! :dopey: I'm thinking about doing it again and maybe ebay... and GT4 as well. :banghead:

pfft... what am I thinking after I get my hands on GT4 I won't give a... about any of you. j/k

Just curious why isn't stinky chicken banned for sheer spamming or bad posting??
He's been banned in the past. If AutoTooned doesn't like the way Jordan runs this site, its real easy. Leave. Why wait to be banned. We all have choices in life. Obviously many have choose the premium path.

And what's the deal with premium? Why was he freaking out about the "bad deal" or ripoff as he liked to call it? I'd pay for premium, I'm just too young to have a credit card. If you think that premium isn't worth it...then don't take it. Simple. This boy sure seems to have incredible difficulty making his own decisions.

Well let's not turn this into a session of bashing on the guy.

We've all put in our 2 cents so let's leave it at that. :D

From here on out this thread should be about 1 thing alone...

Questions Regarding Bannings and Warnings.

I hate to say this but if the track of the thread continues on the path of a flaming session... Well, I will close this sucker down. :(

Hope it doesn't come to that because I see value in the thread.
So please keep things on track everyone!

Do moderators have like a guidebook or some unwritten course of events they follow before banning someone?

A week or so later I was banned with no warning.
I believe Mike Rotch (or possible ///M-Spec, I can't remember) told you not to cuss after you had done so several different times.

That aside though, I did warn you that the next time you did something against the AUP, you'd be out. That means no warnings… if you got a warning, that would mean you'd get 4 strikes, when our policy is 3.

AutoTooned

There's the answer right there. I am not an admin; I can't even change a user's status text if I wanted to. I'm a moderator, which means I can change avatars, signatures, move/rename/lock threads, and ban people. Well, I also get a 110x110 pixel avatar. :D I can't unban people, I can't ban you from certain areas, and quite frankly, I don't think any of us would do that even if we wanted to… for instance, if someone were making a ruckus in only one subforum, would we ban them just from that subforum? Of course not – bad behavior is bad behavior, no matter which forum it's in. I don't care if someone's breaking the rules in the Drifting forum or the Hobbies forum or the Rumble Strip – the AUP applies everywhere.

PS

Generally we try to do the following: On the first strike, we send a PM warning. On the second strike, we send another PM warning, with a note that that person's skating on thin ice and will be booted the next time (aka "last-chance status"). Third time = ban.

It can vary, of course. Just depends on the severity of the offense(s).

OOOOh, ok, I thought it was along the lines of:

1) Don't do that again.
2) Ok, seriously, we aren't kidding.
3) That's it pal you're out. One more offense = byebye.
4) Well...there is no four. You're gone.

That would explain why I only got 2 warnings!:lol:

Who cares if it's possible or not?

Explain to me why we should bother to waste the time on a person like you, who is so completely unwilling to show any respect whatsoever to the community at large, the volunteer staff, or the site owner who built this community out of the goodness of his heart and the generosity of his wallet.

What do you contribute besides a few posts in your precious little cel-shading thread? Even there you've got a keyboard full of attitude and a head full of yourself. What do you give back to the community to make it worth my time to go into your profile and sift through all the different boards, and carefully set which ones you're allowed to see and which ones you're not?

I can solve your problem with one click. And I'm starting to think like ///M-Spec - it sounds like a good idea.

I re-read this thread with a clear head this morning, and exactly the same thought came into my head.

AutoTooned, I suggest that you drop this. Now.

Either go into the wider GTPlanet community and be a decent person, or go somewhere else. You're very close to having that choice made for you.

Could a moderator please tell me how many warnings I have?
Thanks:)

Yes, the Admin can set up user preferences. On a site with 50,000+ members, and two admins, there's no way Jordan will even consider it. Do it for one, do it for all. And Honestly, if you've caused trouble and insulted the owner of the site, do you really think he's going to cater to your wants and desires?

To expand upon what Sage has said, we have a very specific set of guidelines and directives given to us as moderators. They are also given to you as well. You can find them Here, and Here.

No. You're welcome to contact a Moderator by PM and ask to discuss your situation. Weather they do it or not, is the question. Again, do it for one, do it for all.

I'll side with Giles, Duke, and ///M-spec.

Now is the time for AutoTooned to sit back, review his postings, compare it to others and think long and hard about his next post.
