We are so spoiled.

Spoiled? I don't agree, though I thank PD for actually updating the game every once in a while, and not leaving us. All I wish is for DLC next.

By the way, why is 'western influence' always associated with drag racing and NASCAR? As far as I know, that's mostly an American thing, not a western thing, isn't it?
There's more to the western world than America...

V8 Supercars, for example... But, personally, I'd think that it's not about the content in terms of race series that's the issue, but rather the car selection and overall state of the game.
Either way, I'd rather see proper Time Attack and (being a major 'Ring nut) the VLN in Gran Turismo.

Maybe... everyone hold their breaths again... some changes must come like retire Kaz, add more western feeling, evolve the game towards a game with a huge social base (motor fans all over the world)... and more, more, more.

Yeah, Kaz is the mentor, but now he is not doing useful work in PD, he lost his touch in the games... he must leave and... maybe, return in some years... do you know about someone called Mr. Steve Jobs? ;)

Why on earth would I want Kaz to retire? I admire the work he has done, and I love the game he and the others at PD have created.

But I'm not entirely sure if you were being ironic? If so I apologize. I just find it funny when you say he's not doing useful work, because I absolutely love GT5.

Yeah, we're so spoiled. People used to ride horses everywhere they went, now we've got cars.

I'm sure someone has said this but I wouldn't say we are lucky or spoiled, I had expectations that PD set, the game didn't live up to what I was promised. Getting updates that give me the things I was told I would get when I bought the game doesn't mean I am lucky or spoiled, it means I am getting what I should have had all along a little late.

Yes, like you said, work that Kaz "has done"... and not "is doing". I love too all the GT games done in PD, they have great professionals, but now Kaz is not so involved as at the beginning, and the touch of that can be seen.

Sema awards, Concourse d'Elegance, Races, public events, GT academy... all the time wasted (well wasted, i am jealous :dopey: ) in those activities plus he is losing power in front of Sony's pressure (how can he sign an ok in this GT5 version with his quality and obsessive standars?) is the reason to say that, sadly, and not to be ironic.

GT1 was leaps and bounds better than anything else on console at the time and miles ahead of contemporary PC sims visually, it was brilliant through and thorough, very innovative and well executed...GT5 however got neither the best graphics nor all of the features a racing game is supposed to provide nowadays and to add insult to injury it appears to be a severely unfinished and rushed out product, thus your analogy is fundmentally flawed.

I say it's the Gran Turismo development team that has to get with the times because we've had enough of their "more of the same" mentality, hundreds of skylines and obsolete gameplay/AI. Their game design is stuck in 1999 conceptually and it shows, no matter how many polygons they manage to stuff into a car model.

I kinda disagree in 1 point.

Pick a grid of premium cars in a nice track such as Madrid or Nordschleife.

Seriouslly, there's nothing like it. Nothing beautiful like it. And I've played several PC sims...

^ This right here. I'm tired of people going right to OMG DRAG RACING/NASCAR!!!!!!! Yes, thats a part of the american culture, but not the entire damn thing. Look at Fallout3/vegas, said to be 2 of the best games to come out on current consoles. Both made by the "western world" but enjoyed by all. Were talking about spicing things up that PD seem to just leave vacant. GT2 had it down packed with the races and series, with the HP/Weight/car limits. It just made for a much better game and thats where the "'western influence" would make this a much better game. So, please stop acting like its all about drag racing and nascar.

at 40 FPS with screen tearing all over the place, Lego shadows and Atari 2600'ish outlines through rain/smoke, yeah.

  • I see slowdowns only rarely
  • I see screen tearing only rarely
  • the shadows will very likely be fixed, as they're obviously not done
  • the rain/smoke outlines will very likely be fixed, as they're obviously not done
Seriously, those flaws aside, name a game that has the same absolute graphical precision in tracks as well as car models. I don't disagree that these things shouldn't have happened, and that they don't belong in a game of 2010, but overall, I see nothing wrong with GT5 in terms of graphics - optically the most "on the spot" game I know.

But that's the problem... HOW?

There's no event generator. I can't pick track, car and opponents.

What is wrong with GT5 is what is MISSING from GT4 or GT5p. In a nutshell.

By my count, we are missing tracks, we are missing events (dramatically missing those), we are missing certain tuning options, we are missing the ability to detune a car for events, we are missing leaderboards. And that is just the SHORT list!

We got robbed, and some of us are HAPPY about it. Stockholm Syndrome for games...

QFT. Elder Scrolls as well. Both western developers and Japanese ones brought astonishing games to the table. Lately, though, it feels like there are less and less really good games coming out in general.
But some Japanese developers really put me down, lately. Like SquarEnix with their Final Fail 13. MMO combat system (well, sort of) forced into turn based battless, a lame story and an absurdly linear gameplay in general, as well as (in my opinion) bland characters.

Thinking about it, I feel like the Japanese developers seem to only evolve their games superficially. The core remains the same, to a certain degree and, thus, seems more and more outdated. That's what I think about the Final Fantasy 13 example, at least: Combat, characters and graphics have been changed, but most of the gameplay itself could be from a game from the 1990s.
I kinda feel the same about Gran Turismo. PD tried to evolve their formula and added all kinds of fancy stuff - B-Spec, Phototravel, the Museum and so on, but the gameplay feels outdated, with its short career mode and the lack to actually 'work' on your cars (read: more in-depth tuning and [visual] modifications), for example.
Superficial evolution, when a little evolution to the core aspects of the game (the cars and racing, not only graphically) should be what's most important.

Remember GT1 on the the original PlayStation, or even GT2 for that matter? When you bought those games that was it. No updates, no seasonal challenges, no online anything. If you wanted to race a friend you called them over and had to do a 2 person arcade mode race.

I remember when I bought a black and white TV back in the 80's... it was crap, the screen was all bowed out and it had a big clicky dial that fell off all the time (it was used).

Times change.

Are we spoiled or are we just mad that the closest thing PD got to right so far with events was then screwed up shortly after?

When the people tell GT about the game's flaws, they work to improve them. The Seasonal Events from my view were personally built to stop grinding.

Please NO:nervous:
I've golded all NASCAR events and not touching my NASCAR again.

They could however include de Australian V8 races I loved those races in TOCA/DTM3 on the PS2 or other race series.
Rally Raid would be fun.

YES! I would like to see some V-8 Supercar action, and the BTCC too! I love Touring Cars - over here in Canada I have a better chance of finding a $3 bill than TV coverage most of the time, but it's the best racing bar none!

If PD had focused on those types of racing series GT would be better off.
