Has PD shown any rain footage from GT6?

The rain looked awesome in GT5 - hopefully, it looks even better in GT6.

It would be supremely awesome if PD have added a raindrop texture to the vehicles so they show the rain actually hitting the car and the spots of raindrops on the chassis.

Unless you're going to use a static, tiled image, I'd suspect the texture memory required to do that is too much for the way GT games have been made on PS3. The small areas that do have droplets, i.e. the windows only, have insufficient resolution still, in my opinion. Plus I don't think that the "physics" applied to the droplets would scale to the whole car.

Obviously it'd be nice, but I've always thought the perfect little globules of water stuck to the surface of a vehicle moving at high speed just looked a little off.

PGR4 released for the Xbox 360 during the early days of it's console cycle - this is an end of cycle PlayStation 3 game.

Surely Polyphony Digital can accomplish and improve on what Bizarre Creations accomplished in 2007.

I'd like to see the good rain on the windshield again too. Like when GT5 just came out, it looked so much better than the latest updates. And about the drops. I do hope we get better looking metallic first. Where you actually can see it sparkle as it would. Even Juiced 2 had this. Why not Gran Turismo.

I dont think rain in GT6 will be better than GT5 and beacause of that, PD didnt show it in any trailer.
The one thing I want in GT6 is better quality around car edges in raining.

I think it is wishful thinking unfortunately - as to why such features may not be updated...well, priorities. PD seems to have half of the world demanding this and that and everything else people can imagine - it can't all go in.

They might surprise us though, as all vehicles will have functional windscreen wipers (apprently) - not too long to wait and see for ourselves.

I like the way you think!

But that theory assumes that everything else is equal...which is not true...GT5 is doing an incredible Mount more than anything that was done in the PGR games...

You can't make an apples to apples comparison between the two

Personally, as someone said in another thread, they should focus on puddles and reflections on the tarmac before on the cars I think.

If you are going to spend that much effort simulating weather and astronomical effects, it would be a pity to not even have some parts of the track wetter than others, drying line, standing water etc etc. Even Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix series had these well over a decade ago, so it's not that difficult.

This is one of those "impression" things again. That's all a majority of people seem to want, is the "impression" that what they're seeing is real. It's the same for the "metallic" paint as it is for the water on the car bodies as it is for the sounds as it is for the physics.

If you want the genuine article, it takes a bit more work. It's obviously possible, but at what cost and what benefit does it actually bring for that cost?

It's something that indeed could easily be done for photomode (except the "physics" side of it, perhaps), though, because that already does a lot of swapping stuff in and out of memory to increase the apparent quality.

As for the wet track surface, GT3 and GT4 had good demonstrations that PD know what they're doing graphically. It's just making it work with everything else in the general case (in both GT3 and GT4, the "weather" was in a controlled environment with reduced complexity). Adding some kind of dynamic pooling and drying mechanic isn't easy, unless, of course, all you want is the impression...

They did say they maxed out the resources on PS3. I doubt there's room for stuff like this with all the updates they've done GT5>6. More likely a next gen thing if at all.

Rain was good in GT5? I'm not sure we played the same game, since GT5 had possibly the worst looking rain in any 7th gen console game.

I think just the opposite.

Rain and snow in GT6 is one aspect that stands out from the competition and in this GT6 has been extended to more circuits.

If Polyphony did not show this feature in the previous six official trailers, is because it is very likely that still stay a specific trailer to come out to show improvements in the weather like previously this week, They had not shown the simulation of stars.

I think at the Tokyo auto show will know more about the game.

Excellent observation.

There are Real clouds in the atmosphere, so maybe they will use a particle emitter with real physics.

I am crossing my fingers for rain beads on the cars.

I wonder why we haven't seen anything about weather yet this close to release.

The trailer with the astrological simulation was announced as "Weather Changes, Time Changes, Astronomical Simulation System" but id didn't show anything relating to inclement weather - just the night sky and day/night transitions.

It showed real clouds.

Why yes, yes it did. But that's not really weather change. That's just clouds.

I agree. and as for the rain that hit the windshield, they downgraded the quality / resolution with the updates. It looked so much better when the game was without any patches, when the game just came out. And as for the wet asphalt, just more shiny, so that sure sucked. Even GT3 had better quality.
