I'm always surprised how much impact the car choice has on the racing outcome, even in races with PP limit. I've got around 40 cars with exactly 700pp or very close to that in my garage but every single one drives differently.

For example, with my tuned KTM I struggled to become P2 in Autopolis, with Gallo on P1 having a leap of 10 secs, while using the de-tuned Porsche 962 in the same race easily resulted in becoming P1 with a leap of over 1 minute.

You do have to consider that the AI pace does change dramatically and seemingly at random between races. On top of that you have the issues with the PP system where cars can be multiple seconds apart at the same PP level, even worse given it doesn't take fuel/tyre use into account for those races. I agree with your example, seems that it has the biggest problems when you drop high downforce cars down to the lowest PP they can be. Seems to also be rather track specific, as an example 800 PP Gr.2 cars will always be way faster than a road car at that level until you race at a track with long straights where they can use all the extra straight line speed. I do like these races because you can come up with some very unique entries which can be a lot of fun.

Yeah, you're right.

I also like these races and the fact that winning is not alone the result of a driving challenge but also of an "engineering challenge", ie. try different cars and setups until it works out, and adjusting the car to your personal driving flavor and skills.

e.g. I hate understeering but can handle oversteering pretty well (especially since it has become less dramatic with one of the last game updates), so I can tune alike. Also you have the choice between high max speed vs. better cornering etc.

The only thing is, it feels a bit like cheating when using cars like the Porsche 962 which has high speed, good cornering and excellent fuel efficiency at the same time, so that you just can easily overtake the AI while pitting and get a leap of over one minute at the end of the race

I think I'll just do the newly-added round of the Ferrari Circuit Challenge for now, using a tuned 458, and then with these upcoming challenges, I'll be sure to do the American Clubman Cup 700 round at Interlagos. For that, I got a swapped 2017 Ford GT that could be fun to use, as I had previously won and installed a Stage 5 Weight Reduction for it as well.

I've tried a few Gr. 1 races with the LM55 (which I generally like much) without success. Perhaps I'm not a good enough driver for that race type / car combination. Currently my best choise for those events is the Tomahawk Gr.1.

What's the problem with the Fuji race? Mazda LM55 VGT (Gr.1), RH tires, FM around 4-5, no pit stop needed unless there is heavy rain. Easy win on hard difficulty.

Decent week (nice to see Interlagos) but I can't beat those Gr.1 events for the life of me... And of course it's in one of the worst tracks in the game.

Either Mazda LM55 Vision GT at 900-950PP, Racing Medium tyres (make sure you have Inters as well), shift up at no more than half the rev gauge (cockpit cam; can't remember what the equivalent is on the tacho) - don't be tempted to rev it out on the straight either - and no-stop it.

You'll need to be prepared for rain, so keep an eye on the weather radar and dive in just before any big and dark blue/green/yellow periods - but if it's just a squall you can still amble round on slicks still if it doesn't get above halfway on the surface water meter (between the two markers) and wait for a dry line - and switch back to slicks only when the meter drops below the lower line.

i pitted at the end of lap 4 on fuji which was the best thing i done for inters then it monsooned during lap 5 was good on fuel and tires to the end of the race had a few cautions from ai spinning or hitting the wall.
the Valkyrie went super sayan on the final lap with a super fast lap but was not enough to catch me
the 812 Ferrari is a car to tame.
the American and euro races were simple.

Fun week, some tracks we don't get too often which was good. Sunday Cup was very easy but it was nice to drive the short layout. Clubman Cup isn't has hard as I expected as the quickest cars seem to get stuck in traffic and aren't a threat, the Tesla that starts up front is surprisingly fast though. One-Make was pretty easy with a stock 812 even with a few mistakes, AI isn't fast around this layout and their cars don't seem to really be tuned much. Hypercar Parade was annoying honestly, the Valkyrie is so much faster than the rest of the field there's literally no point in any of the other cars being there. For me it was running under 3:26 and got past all the other cars just after the first lap. I ended up using the Porsche VGT on SM and it was barely enough with the crazy corner speeds from the Aston, really need to be a decent way over 700 PP to have a chance unless you run slicks. Gr. 1 at Fuji is normally a fun race given the huge variance you can get with the weather. I ran the non Gr.1 McLaren VGT and had no trouble, hadn't driven much before but it was a lot of fun around Fuji and I surprisingly didn't get any rain. Pitted on lap 6 but had I known it wouldn't rain I would've pitted on lap 5 and run map 1 all race instead, AI was dumb at the end because they decided to pit again on lap 9 but for whatever reason they didn't actually do anything, just stopped in their box and then left.

812 is quite fun even in stock form IMO, you might just enjoy it as well.

Decent set of races this week, I like them. Appreciate the credit tickets too. I'm close to getting all the cars, just need all the Gr.1 and VGT cars now.

Anyways.

Chose a classic Alfa for this. Is this just one of the prettiest cars ever made, or what? Very nimble, very fun to drive. Highly recommend.

I'm a big fan of the Ghia Plymouth XLR. Its so fun to throw around corners, just wrestling all that power. I hate Interlagos, however. In road cars, its absolutely miserable to drive, just behind Willow Springs, in my opinion.

The only thing I did to the 812 was add all the aero bits. Handles like a very fast boat. Weird to drive Sardegna in a road car, I've driven it so many times in race cars. Feels like a different track. Probably my least liked race this week.

Fully tuned Ferrari 512BB does the trick. The damn Valkyrie caught up to me by the last few corners, very close finish! Still, I would take driving this over the Valkyrie any day.

Decided to try this with the GT-R LM Nismo. The whole front-wheel drive thing made me curious about how it would handle. Honestly it handles very similar to the other Gr.1 cars. However, the cockpit view is questionable. Every time you turn the wheel, it blocks most of the windscreen. It's absurd, like how am I supposed to drive if I can't see out front? Probably contributed to why it failed so badly in real life and Nissan cancelled the program after one race.

Four out the way (hard difficulty)...

Catalunya - Alfa Romeo MiTo '09 - I tried this last night with only a tire upgrade, but it was only good enough for P2. Adding the the sports-level upgrades along with the SS tires made for a pretty easy win. First ticket obtained.

Interlagos - Ford GT '06 - I've driven this car a fair bit early in the game, so it already had some upgrades. I added a few more to get it past 700PP. It ended up being quite a beast. Even with RS tires, this thing was hard to keep on the track, but it is an absolute rocket. Made for an easy win. Second box checked.

Sardegna - Ferrari 812 Superfast '17 - I only upgraded the tires to SS, but it was able to keep up with the rest no problem. The car takes a lot of braking room. Got it wrong on lap 4 and went into the wall. That made for great chase on the final lap that came down to a sprint to the finish. Won by a hundredth. Second ticket obtained.

Sainte-Croix - Skoda VGT - Another easy win. No changes to the car. Was in the lead before the first lap was out. Fourth box checked.

I’ve recently discovered that you can sort cars by type or #

There are exactly 20 Lemans cars in the game perfect for a custom race

But regarding filter by sort it’s the hyper car section, dumb thinking, what’s the point to create a Hypercar race when there are only 4 Hypercars in the game?

Anyway choose my dust collector Veneno for this, coming 2nd, The Valkyrie made me eat dust.

1. To begin the week, I decided to try something I don't usually do, a i3 faux LM. Being that it's an EV, it's very good in the slow corners, but the lack of speed (Only around 95 MPH) made the long straights pretty difficult.
2. For American clubman 700, I used a Camaro LM build, it's a bit of a handful, but it is very quick.
3. For the special cup, I had to use the 812 Superfast. I might be in the minority here, but I absolutely hate this car, it turns more like a boat than a GT car, and understeers so badly. I had to reluctantly take third instead.
4. For hypercar parade, I used the FXX K which I had got last week from a 5 star ticket.
5. Finally, I used the Mclaren VGT (Not GR.1) - It worked great, although I had to be much more careful on the wet tyres.

I brought the Abarth 1500 Biposto Bertone B.A.T 1 from Legends dealership, and got a Lancer Evolution IX MR GSR '06, which I turned into another faux LM car.

You are not alone even in SS you need +400 meters to brake early. Too much power with lout control. It’s not well balanced, it’s a car to cruise around irl no good for track.

Comes with SM so it's quite easy to drive, I'm surprised so many people say it understeers, I think they are just over driving what is still a road going GT car. Only place you'll get genuine understeer is beyond 200 km/h but it doesn't really have much aero so you'd expect that. Outside of this race I even switched it back to SH to make it a bit more realistic grip wise and it's still good to drive. If you're worried about Sainte-Croix then either use the Valkyrie or something you've tuned on RH and you'll not have any issues.
