All dressed up and set to go :

Don't know what came over me ... :):):):):)

Fun week, good mixture of races. Sunday Cup is short and quite easy, same goes for Japanese FR Challenge. Schwarzwald League is always interesting with the weather and the big range of cars to use, turned out my RUF BTR Twin build was a bit too fast but still a ton of fun to drive. FTO One-make was harder than I expected, think I was around 530 PP and still only just caught the front two cars on the last lap, they were more than 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field for whatever reason. WTC 800 is a classic grind race, although I never did it much so it's still reasonably fresh to me. Fraga can sometimes be insanely fast and still only pit twice which can make it really hard to win with a stock Gr.3 car so I went with a tuned and swapped Cayman GT4 instead. Ended up being overkill but still a fun race saving fuel and lapping half the field.

Cars for this week:

What a fun week! I wasn't expecting this much entertainment from this weeks' selection. For a bit of fun I thought I'd pick cars I've never, or rarely used. All won easily and uneventfully, on hard difficulty, with the exception of an ugly incident at Sardegna...
This weeks' underappreciated (by me) quintet...

Sunday Cup: Mazda Atenza XD '15 - Stock. I thought I'd start this weeks' challenges with something I'd never driven, and probably won't again anytime soon. Nothing wrong with it, just a dull family wagon. Job done and move on.
Japanese FR Challenge 450: Suzuki Cappuccino '91 - full race spec, except stock brakes and no weight reductions, CS Tyres. Having selected a car I'd not used before for race 1, I thought I'd continue the theme for the week. Last week I was browsing the UCD and spotted that I didn't own a Cappuccino, so I bought one and gave it a build. After a quick spin round Brands to get the setup right, I parked her up and thought no more of it…until today. With modest power and lightweight she handled amazingly well even on comfort soft tyres.
Schwartzwald League: Audi R8 V10 Plus - Stock with 'Sport Soft' tyres. Another gift car I'd never used, this handled the torrential rain of the ring with ease, taking the lead on the exit of the Karussell and cruising to victory. My only issue with this race is with the tyres. I don't know what tyres the Sport Soft is modelled on, but I can only assume it is the most aggressive road-legal track tyres available, like Toyo Proxy R88's and Yokohama AD09's. Whichever tyre they used I find it hard to believe a tyre of this nature would be capable of dispersing water as well as I was experiencing, in the torrential rain.
FTO Special Event: Lightly tuned from stock, with Sports brakes, pads, air filter and exhaust, Mid turbo and Sports Medium tyres. Had a quick try with a completely stock version, but quickly realised that with my lack of talent and limited knowledge of Autopolis, neither a win nor a podium was likely. A mild 'street' tune-up later, a fun and competitive race was won.
WTC 800: Renault Espace F1 '95 - Stock with just some suspension and aero settings tweaks. FM6, 1 stop at end of lap 7. Having completed this race more time than I care to remember, while grinding for credits, I thought I'd go for something I've never used here, and only driven once or twice, the Espace. After quickly realising how thirsty the Espace is, I turned to FM6 for a 1 stopper. I was unsure if I had the pace to make it work but when most of the field stopped on laps 5 and 6, I realised most were on a 2 stop strategy, and the race would come to me if I could squeeze out an eight lap stint 2. Pitting from 1st an the end of Lap 7 I felt pretty confident that the race was mine to win, however this was about to be thrown into doubt...
After receiving fresh medium tyres and a full tank of fuel, at almost the exact moment I was off auto drive and while still in the pit lane exit, I was sent spinning across the track having been rear ended by Lopez. Fortunately, I was able to quickly regain control and proceed, without being hit again or losing too much time. IRL, in some series, cars on track are allowed to cut across pitlane entries and exits while not using the pits, but they must do so WITH CAUTION, so as not to interfere with vehicles legitimately using those lanes. That PD hasn't coded this into their AI behaviour is pretty poor, given the 'Real Driving Simulator' tag. Hopefully, we'll see some significant improvements to AI driver behaviour in GT8...
Anyway, having survived my brush with Lopez, it was a simple exercise of taking opportunities to pass as they presented themselves, while waiting for everyone to pit for a second time, and fuel saving through short shifting and lift-and-coast, to eek out 8 laps, for the win.

6-Star roulette spin yielded at Ferrari 296 GTB. Not bad but could've been better!

My 'Pic of the Week’ goes to a a rain-soaked Nordschleife...

Stock Cappucino to get first at the end.

Stock mx5 struggled down the big straight but managed to get 2nd.

Used my recently shared tune for the Schwartzwald League race, would avoid hitting kerbs too much but when it rains sliding this thing is soo good!

FTO special event I think will be pain for some people due to the track and the amount of laps, stock car can win this or heavily modded car so you can get it over and done with

Sardegna used the 400r, not quite finished the tune but it was an easy win.

Overshadowed, but can still feel at home with the other Gr. 3s (even though it technically isn't)

Pros:

- Can run COMFORTABLY on Softs on this race.

- Has a boost function.

- Can recover energy easily, better if you lift and coast.

- Can run 6 laps on FM1. But figure it out how. 😈

Cons:

  • Very tall gearing.
  • Minimal tuning adjustments.

The base LM55 VGT but in Gr. 3 clothes? 🤔

Weird, I did the Special Race twice on Normal difficulty (won both times), and once of Hard difficulty (came 6th), but it is showing that I've not completed the event...

edit: I just checked using the Recent Gameplay video save, and indeed my progress in the event was deleted by coming 6th... I wonder if that can be replicated?

Sunday Cup: Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT. EZ
Japanese FR Challenge 450: Mazda Spirit Racing 12R. Pretty fun and smooth.
Schwarzwald League: Audi R8. Pulled my GT4 Build and thankfully, got lucky the weather held off.
World Touring Car 800: Mercedes CLK LM. Just wanted Moneh
Special Event: Kinda fun, indication that my setup needs work but still fun.

What I used, once again going to the furthest cars down the list on last used, other than the Ferrari :sly:
I don't think I have won with the Toyota S-FR or Honda Civic before, and I had not with the Mitsubishi FTO as it is engine swapped.

I had the same thing, it didn't register result(s) even though I knew I'd won it after a couple of attempts. I was playing around with the 959, so was trying some things and did the race a few times, lost it on last few corners and got overtaken by everyone but didn't think anything of it as already had won previously, but when back in the menu it no longer showed the win.

Didn't mind too much, kinda nice to find something the 959 was useful for, the worse the weather got the better the car became, just takes a bit of getting used to as don't really race at the 'ring' much so am a bit rusty.

I use comfort softs (but not trying to be a hero or anything, just feels right for this type of car), especially on Nordschliefe.

If anyone interested, just did a bit of a re-balance on the stock suspension, one of GT7 qwerks, lower tyres and as little as possible seem to suit road cars well, but maybe/probably just me and my <> buttons and [] and X.

If anyone wants to try it, just use custom susp, put everything back to stock - wheels, aero, gears, weight etc etc and especially the diff - don't use any type of custom diff, go back to completely stock diff. Don't know why, but so many cars seem better without it, but probably just me :indiff: :boggled: :indiff:

Comfort softs

100 / 100
6 / 4
30 / 26
42 / 38
2.61 / 3.64
2.0 / 1.5

Everything else totally stock, tread carefully going in, rally car / drive it like you stole it coming out. Time will be made on the fastest sections, not the slow corners. Don't fear the oversteer...

I've been doing the FTO special race in a completely stock FTO for the last 24hrs on Hard difficulty and I am yet to get a win lol. There is nothing easy about it for me. 😂

Same. Best car in GT1 imo. I posted on Reddit PD should have added it as a prize car in the Power Pack as a nod to GT1.

I would guess either their pace is very variable or there's just a slow field that would enable it. I only ran with my tuned FTO which has 100 hp more than stock and the AI still pulled away on the straights so most of the time was made up in the last sector.

Style is also shared, by the way.

This, and the base R.S.01 are my prime candidates for "Amogus" cars - cars blending very well within the grid but very sus.

Like the base LM55 VGT in 950 pp events.

That was quick and easy (hard difficulty)...

weekly-challenge-202603w1-79-r1.webp

BB Raceway - Porsche 356 A/1500 GS Carrera '56 - No modifications. Easy win. First ticket obtained.

weekly-challenge-202603w1-79-r2.webp

High Speed Ring - Nissan Silvia K's Dia Selection (S13) '90 - Stock car, besides the aero changes. Another pretty easy win. Those AI cars really have no idea where the fastest line is. Second box checked.

weekly-challenge-202603w1-79-r3.webp

Nurburgring - Porsche Carrera GT '04 - I upgraded the tires to SS for this race. This car is pretty tail-happy, but fast enough that the couple times I went off the track made no difference. Second ticket obtained.

weekly-challenge-202603w1-79-r4.webp

Autopolis - Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R '97 - Only upgraded the tires to SS, which made this one a real challenge. The AI cars were a lot faster than me on the straights. I managed P3, which was good enough for the fourth check mark.

weekly-challenge-202603w1-79-r5.webp

Sardegna - Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car - I started on RM tires, planning to do a 1-stop. I quickly realized that I would have to do some pretty aggressive fuel saving to get it to 8 laps. FM4 and heavy short-shifting got me there. I changed my tires, just to be safe. That got me a comfortable P2, but Fraga was way out of reach. Whatever. Good enough for the final ticket, which gave me a Suzuki VGT.

Every race I've done so far the fastest lap times by me or the AI is consistently in the 2:15s. So no slow field races. I did get first place once but didn't get the CRB so I know it's possible. The AI is very aggressive in the corners and passing clean is proving difficult.

I will keep pushing though and try to find faster ways around the corners and the traffic.

I remember that car! GT1 kept your best time on each track regardless of car and I remember it ringing up as I crossed the line in the FTO.
Yep it was a beast. And the main reason I bought one irl. 🤓

Pretty decent week even if there was only one new to me race.
First of all, my cars were all on some sort of TE37's to honor tomorrow, Happy 3-7 Day!
Sunday Cup and RWD, I used the same car, stock 86 except for SH and brake bias. Both easy wins.
For Norsdchleife I slapped on some SM on in prep for the rain which came (not much) about halfway through. Still an easy 7 second win. Two of the AI drivers made the same mistake at the same corner and took them both off the track in the wet. lol
One make was too easy on my modded FTO. I'll retry in my lightly modded one. A minute gap.
WTC800 is also my grinder when I need the money and always done in my Audi. The usual, lapped half of the field. Easy win.
Won the Aston Martin GT1 with the ticket. Haven't bought the car so a keeper.
