Hello again. This week we will be racing the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454. You can win this car by completing all 3 races in the American Hall, Hot Rod Competition (Domestic A License required).

NOTE:

-All races are held at the Las Vegas drag strip
-Please save your replay AND YOUR SETTINGS
-No gamesharking is allowed to enhance the car
-Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated
-Winner must post settings at conclusion of race, otherwise the win goes to the next fastest person who can supply repeatable settings
-Post your time here in the thread before the time limit passes (do not PM it to me)

RACE CONDITIONS/LIMITATIONS:

-Absolutely NO TCS or LSD
-N3 Tires only
-The only power upgrades you can do are: an oil change, NA1 engine tuning, and port/polish. This means, no Nitrous!
-You may buy a fully customizable transmission and a racing flywheel. All other drivetrain purchases are illegal.
-You may not buy any suspension for this car. You may not decrease weight. Please do not stiffen the chassis or do a refresh (you shouldn't need to refresh it anyway).
-You may not buy a wing either
-However you MAY add ballast weight to the car if you so wish to do so :)

I am trying to recreate a typical drag race from the 70s. This is close to the level of modifications that your average racer would be able to do to their machine, within reasonable limits of money and time and trying to be period correct. Although normally a car like this wouldn't have a fully customizable racing transmission, I am allowing it for the purpose of creating a good race. If we all race the exact same set up then it's hard to win by any measureable margin.

As you can infer from the rules, it is a good idea to write down your settings and save the replay, as well as your time. I will not require you to post replays, so for those of you who don't have a maxdrive, don't worry. Unlike any other OLR event, you can bump and scrape the walls all you want. Kill some pedestrians, I don't care. BUT - if you don't post settings, or if your settings are questioned by another racer and no one can repeat your run within reasonable limits, either you will have to give away your strategy or the win will be taken away from you.

This will be a 10 point event, 1st place is awarded 10 point, 2nd nine, and so on. Anyone can race any week.

This race will conclude at noon (12pm) Friday March 16th, EST. This time limit is designed to give you a few extra hours, for I get home from work around 5 or so. That said, if a racer sends me a PM and asks for an extra day due to unforeseen circumstance, I will almost always grant it as long as it doesn't become a habit.

Speaking of PMs.... I am not a Moderator and this is not an official GTP race. I cannot handle a mass influx of PMs. So, this is why you must post your time within this thread before the time limit passes.

Have at it!!!!

One question... How are you going to regulate the suspension and stuff? Why not simply move to Arcade-mode for one week then? (Test-course, of course)

The honor code combined with posting settings at the end. I know that my times are usually near the top. So if somebody posts a crazy wicked time, and their settings don't work for me or anyone else at all, then it will be thrown out. I know it's not very official or exact, but I consider this to be a bit more laid back anyway.

13.820 so far... what about weight balance? can we fiddle with that?

Yes, the last point under Race Conditions/Limitations is "-However you MAY add ballast weight to the car if you so wish to do so"

13.343 thusfar. I keep bogging out just a little too much, but very good trap speed. :D

Cheers,

See any of the work I've done? :D I used to run an entire Muscle racing series, did some testing of the stock vehicles (in my sig, look for it) and all sorts of other stuff. I even had a remotely successful writeup story (which I really need to get back on). Check out my pics while you're at it, if you want. PM me if you need anything else man, elsewise we'l both get warned for off-topic banter. :indiff:

I should get another time in tomorrow, but right now I'm in the middle of the Tokyo 300K endurance with a DB9R. :D

Cheers,
Jetboy

yes but ballast is weight added on not weight balance, i wasn't sure either way so my time is with 50-50 balance...

I almost forgot, WHAT a good choice, the Chevelle SS 454 `70 is my favorite muscle car!!!!!:) :sly:

Sweet :)

A mod might get on your ass but I certainly won't care if you talk muscle cars here.

I'm not sure why you are confused.

Paying for the Weight Reduction = not allowed
Adding more weight through ballast in settings = optional and highly recommended

Yikes, Kenny you're a sick bastard! :p I think at least most of them managed to get a posi traction in their big chunks of american Iron! But then again, I wasn't around so I don't know for sure... :) I'll see what I can whip up sometime this week.

Apparently I've been gone awhile. Maybe it's time to get back into this game.

So is it to late to join in? If not mark me down for a 13.377

I'll do some serious tuning tommorow.

13.113 repeatable

13.099 fastest so far.

Kenny, I think the clutch should be allowed as well, because they definitely had HD clutches back in the day... If we're going to allow lightened flywheels, I think clutces should come too! Considering I'd replace the clutch before lightening the flywheel, and lightening the flywheel requires taking off the clutch anyway!!! Come on, pleaaaaaaaase? I think it'll drop into the 12s with a stronger clutch in it... :D

Oh, and maybe a better way of explaining what IS allowed this week would be saying what's legal, and that everything else is NOT legal.

Such as: You CAN do an oil change, Stage 1 NA Tuning, Port Polish, Racing Transmission, and Racing Flywheel on N3 tires. Nothing else, no weight reduction, no suspension, no wing, no Nitrous, no TCS, etc.

Welcome back man! I'm not even sure if I sent you a PM when I started the series, because you had been inactive for a while I believe. But boy am I glad to see you back :)

You know that's a good point. Unfortunately many people have already ran, and I really don't want to make a habit of changing the rules mid-week. However, next time I do something similar, I will remember :)

Even with my method of explaining everything you could and couldn't do, some people still had questions - you can see one guy had to take off the suspension. No matter how clear I make it, somewhere along the line someone is going to misread or read too quickly - or even worse not read the entire thing :dunce:

Great time by the way!

Yeah, it's always suprising what you can squeeze out of all these cars with tinkering... Not that it's accurate to real life, but still.

Thanks! And yeah, I know... 👍

Yeah...he and I were chatting about my series and then I think he saw that we were active again, so that's my fault. :D It's good to have him back, too.

Cheers,
Jetboy
