Weekly Drag Series - Week 8 + Results

Hello! This week we are campaigning the Toyota Supra RZ 1997. You can buy this car in the Used Car lot for the late 90s. It shows up often enough - so if you don't already have it by now just keep buying rims or something to pass the days and if will come up soon enough.

Make sure it is the RZ and not the SZ-R.

Please read the comments/questions at the end of this post!

NOTE:

-All races are held at the Las Vegas drag strip
-Please save your replay AND YOUR SETTINGS
-No gamesharking is allowed to enhance the car
-Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated
-Winner must post settings at conclusion of race, otherwise the win goes to the next fastest person who can supply repeatable settings
-Post your time here in the thread before the time limit passes (do not PM it to me)

RACE CONDITIONS/LIMITATIONS:

-S2 tires only
-The hp limit is 700hp or below, measured at the dealer/tuner. 699 is good. 700 is good. 701 is bad.
-No nitrous at all this week
-TCS is legal this week
-Everything else that hasn't been mentioned is legal, even if it is bought from tuner village

As you can infer from the rules, it is a good idea to write down your settings and save the replay, as well as your time. I will not require you to post replays, so for those of you who don't have a maxdrive, don't worry. Unlike any other OLR event, you can bump and scrape the walls all you want. Kill some pedestrians, I don't care. BUT - if you don't post settings, or if your settings are questioned by another racer and no one can repeat your run within reasonable limits, either you will have to give away your strategy or the win will be taken away from you.

This will be a 10 point event, 1st place is awarded 10 point, 2nd nine, and so on. Anyone can race any week.

This race will conclude at midnight (12am) Friday April 6th, EST. This time limit is designed to give you a few extra hours, for I get home from work around 5 or so. That said, if a racer sends me a PM and asks for an extra day due to unforeseen circumstance, I will almost always grant it as long as it doesn't become a habit.

Speaking of PMs.... I am not a Moderator and this is not an official GTP race. I cannot handle a mass influx of PMs. So, this is why you must post your time within this thread before the time limit passes.

Consistency is why I am winning by the degree that I am. If you want to beat me, race every week. 👍

Comments

(1) Beginning our eighth week now, it looks like we have a steady group of racers now. I'm happy about that.
(2) I have tried to throw in some variety in the cars we race - especially in nationalities and drivetrains of cars. However drag racing is best suited to rear-wheel-drive and so I don't do FF very often. That is because highly modded FF cars get no traction at all and they tend to hop/skip or what not. Very irritating.

Questions

(1) Should we start doing special events? I would like to do a shootout of say two or three sedans pitted against each other. Prior testing to ensure a good race is a must, and of course I would do that beforehand. But I need to know if you guys are actually up for that! People always complain about time, and running two or three cars at once is what killed this series the first time.

Now the tournament I ran last time went pretty well and I was satisfied with how it went. Would you guys want to take a break after week 10 and start a tournament with a bracket and all of that, or no?
(2) Are you happy with the car selection? I notice most of our cars end up crossing the line after 10-12 seconds or so. So far I have avoided the fastest race cars, and I have steered far away from the slow beginner cars that are extremely boring to me. Do you guys want to see more of either spectrum?

I'd like to see more mid or rear engine cars, just to toss in some extra challenge. But there is a distinct lack of choices for RR cars. Maybe some of the rally level race cars or suvs/trucks.

Anyway, fun car for this week. Might get some times posted tomorrow

So that's one vote for 'yay' for the tournament. I'm really seriously considering taking a break after week 10 and doing a tourney. Which would mean that either people would be qualified based upon their result in week 10 - or by the leaderboard. If I did it by the leaderboard, a lot of us would get by's the first round - which is fine by me.
 
Well the tourney does sound like a good idea but I won't be in. This week I may actually enter this week, instead of waiting till nearly the end. The TCS will defintley help with this car.

Got home from the movies today to find that my lovely husky had managed to pull all the cables on all the electronics that sit on top of my dresser, which includes my PS2. Needless to say, my PS2 wont read any ps2 games since it fell from about 5 1/2 feet. I'll try and get it working again but if not, I'm not investing in a new one.

I have an 11.241, which is all I'm going to get out of this car.

Guys we only have one other submission so far! What's going on?
 
People are busy maybe? It's spring brake in most places I think.
I'll try to get you a time soon. Though I've been busy too it dosen't take long to get a time with this.

I have 700hp exactly.

It looks like this is your first time racing with us - and you know what? It usually takes a few weeks to get into the swing of things, because a large part of this is getting as much traction as possible. It's hard to figure that out for your first time, so your time is rather good considering this is your first attempt :)

Ok. I got a 12.366 and I'm not tryin' it anymore. I'm sick of trying to go in a stright line and have fun. It's pointless.
So I give up. There you go I went and got you a time.

I'm going to extend this through the rest of the night. I would end it in 20 minutes but due to the low volume of submissions - I will keep this going until I wake up and log on to the internet.

I guess drag racing isn't your thing then, it's all good. I enjoy trying to squeeze ever more outta the car...

And yeah, I've definitely been BUSY this week, and next week will be as well.

I'll have a quick go and be done in less than 20 minutes, which would be the extended 12:00 deadline, if it's in effect. :)

Definitely glad for the extension...

I would've been able to do MAYBE one run before the "deadline" because it took me so long to get the car... Like three rotations, and for a while there I was actually picking out the wheels because I didn't know if I'd get the car the next day or not! :lol:

Anywho, just did an oil change and popped on the stage 4 turbo, 698hp. I'm not wanting the more torque that the Org. turbo kit gives, so that's that for the power department. Time to do some runs!

Oh, and Kenny, just now saw your comments and questions... 👍 I think a week of messing with a high power FF car could be done anyway, I know it'll be a pain in the ass(even more so in this game than real life), but so what. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing some of both ends of the spectrum here and there. Maybe something up to a 15 second 1/4(FWD? Haha), old school european or japanese cars, 80s cars, whatever, ya know? :) Everything's good in my book for the most part.

Now, with regards to a tourney, I don't want to be spending too much time each week, and if that would mean I'd need to spend more time, then no thanks for me. Also, a choice week would be cool with me, I'd have to make sure I pick the car I like the most though, instead of trying to chase after the fastest car out of the box... :)

One suggestion, maybe adjust your leaderboard so that it only counts the last 5-6 races or something, so that new people have a chance to catch up to someone who's raced since the beginning. Keeping track of the leaderboard will be harder, but I think if you just entered the data into an Excel spreadsheet or something each week it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to keep track of.

EDIT: This stage 4 turbo sucks. It's an on off switch at like 3500 or so rpm. Bogs off the line, then slams into boost. I'll go try out the Org. with some extra parts. 11.671 on second run otherwise.

EDIT2: Org. turbo has much more torque. Add the port+polish(or engine balancing? can't remember, one of the two) and you get 690hp instead of 688 in the engine curve screen, along with 652! torque compared to 596 with just the stage 4.
 
Damn. I've spent the past half an hour, almost, just trying to get another thousandth off so I'd have a round 11.150... But no cigar, stuck at 11.151. :) Could probably get a smidge lower if I toyed with gearing some more, but I don't want to. :cheers:

Seems wierd to not be using nitrous, lol.

I would prefer to keep the leaderboard the way it is - to promote consistent running. If somebody wants to climb to the top, they gotta pay their dues.
 
that's it... it's fun to see if i can stay consistent enough to get to the top but with the times some people are posting, i simply don't get enough time to tune that much but thats from running out of ideas
