This is not my doing GoKents. :D

The Car: Any car that can legally be equiped to run a rally course. Car must not have a Power to Weight Ratio of less than 2.5.

The Track: Swiss Alps

The Race: Hot Lap. Arcade Mode>Free Run. Get your fastest lap time.

The Rules:

1. You may elect to run your car to the point that it loses power to make it into the 2.5 PWR ruling.
2. Your car must meet the 2.5 race spec when submitting your final time.
3. No cheating.
4. No "wall" touching. (you know where the walls are.)
5. No hybrids.

Time Discussion: All "T" times.

The Deadline: Monday at Midnight, Mountain Time, USA, the 26th of January.

Please include what Division you are in along with your final time. Thank you.

Enjoy.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
It's cool boom, although it really was an excellent call, I don't think you could have predicted my reaction any better.:D
btw, boom, I've gotten people to start thinking about suggestions for 52... I am gonna try and direct them all to the suggestions thread. So keep that in mind everyone.
Unified, go ahead and check my results post again, edited it after reading your heels comment. ;)
Good racing indeed my friend.

I'll see what I can do this week, talk to you guys later.

Do we have to run a tuned normal car, or can we use a real rally car?

Great. Rally at the Alps. Looks like we gonna have some fun this week.

any car that can go on rally (with out moding etc) so that means skylines, wrx, lancers, even RUF i think. Choose ya cars and have fun :)

so i can take any rally car on swiss alps as long as it isnt modded in anyway? because my lancer and 1 of my 2 subaru's are modded

Oooh lookie what we have here :D A bit of rally... I am up for it, lets get dirty! :mischievous:

Good idea Boom 👍 ;)

Cool - sounds like a great challenge :)

I'm assuming tune-ups are allowed, as long as weight/power > 2.5...
...time to drag out the Lancer Evo VII Proto from Week # 47 - I've driven over 600 miles in the car already

This is my first week in this race series. I apologize if these sorta things are just understood at this point and therefore left out (especially #3 and #4) Dumb questions....

1) how does one determine power to weight ratio? Divide the cars weight by it's HP?

2) What is a "legal" rally car? At first I think of just the standard rally cars in the game, but then I read that you can use other normal cars(?) (all of which are 4wd)...So if a car is 4wd and I can get rally tires on it I can use it? 4wd doesn't mean "legal" rally car though does it. The citreaon is a FF car but is legal...?

3) Can we modify the car? The rally cars in the game need little work but say if I wanted to use an Audi TT (not that I am going to but it is the first 4wd car that comes to mind) I would need to modify ALOT (reduce weight, brakes, engine, chip, turbo, port polish, etc)...can I do that? As long as the power to weight ration is within the limits?

4) Can we use TC and ASM? If so are there limits to the levels or can we just go nuts.

5) his question may trump the other 4....since the race is run in arcade mode (right?) can we use a car from our garage or are we stuck with the cars in the rally arcade section?

Again I apologize if this has all been covered somewhere (I did look/search but given how new I am to this site I am trying to figure it's structure out).

Thanks

I think Boom means Legally equiped as in you can buy the tires. With MKs program, you can change the game code and put dirt tires on any car in the game, even F1 cars. As for adding parts, add all you want. Just be sure not to go below 2.5 pw/r. You can find out what your pw/r is by checking the car specs in your garage. You can use garage cars in Arcade mode.
Here is an example. The Clio Race car can be outfitted with dirt tires and is abouve the pw/r limit.

yup...I landed smack in the top end of Div 3

I just started playing the game with a wheel AND all MT transmissions. Imagine my new learning curve....

I have a stock PS2, no hacks...no add-ons other than my new wheel.

If I am reading this right the PW/R has to be ABOVE 2.5. Maybe i don't understand the meaning of the number...lower PW/R numbers are better, correct?

I see.

Humor me, I'm at work right now but am thinking this over (as I design in photoshop)...

Where do most of the stock rally cars in GT3 all as far as PW/R?

In the "spec" for the car is there a PW/R line?

it is with a heavy heart that i have to announce that our Mr. P., our Mr Rally, can not participate this week due to a previous engagement. he'll be with us in spirit but he can not be with us on the track. good luck with whatever it was that you had to do ron, we'll miss you till next week pal o' mine.

Indeed there is. It's at the bottom of the spec list for each car.
The PWR is the ratio between the engine power output and the weight of the car. Light/powerful cars have a lower PWR than heavy/low HP cars.

With new cars you may have to watch the PWR as the car is run-in. As the HP increases the PWR will decrease.
Experiment with changing engine parts and lightweight body mods to see what difference each makes. YOu may find you get a better PWR by reducing bodyweight rather than adding more power or vice versa.

I wouldn't claim to have a pure understanding of all this but I think I got the basics in a nutshell :)

Thanks for that description.... :-)

Here is the kicker. As you mod the car Does that PW/R number on the spec scree change or do ou need to keep track of it yourself?

Optimally you want that PW/R ratio as low as you can get correct?

Took a quick look at a few of the Rally Cars. They seem to come stock at around 300 hp and 1230 kg, for a ratio a little over 4. Options for adjusting the ratio on these cars are very limited. The usual engine mods, (muffler, chip etc) are not available, nor is weight reduction. For the two I looked at (Evo and Corolla), the only options were stage 1 or 2 turbo. With oil and stage two, they came up somewhat over the ratio (around 2.65), so these cars may be at a slight competitive disadvantage.

BTW, welcome to Div 3 scuderia229. The ranks have been a little thin lately.

And yes, the spec will update as the car is modified. Lowest without going under 2.5 is best.

The specs should change to reflect the mods you do.
And yeah, small is beautiful,baby.

As an example look at some very different cars. Compare a high-power car (eg F1 or Zonda or something) to something like a regular road car and you should see a significant difference.

Ya I'm aware of PW/R in concept from reading car magazines and such but the actual workings of it and then getting a car to fit within the requirements of this race got me needing (wanting) to know more about it in detail.

So if I get a car to be 2.51 PW/R I have almost no disadvantage to the spec of this race. But if i get a car to 1.9 PW/R I am too low and don't qualify (but would have an advantage on paper to the spec). At the same time if I am running a 4.0 PW/R car I have a huge disadvantage (voiding other factors) for this race.

Ok so to really abstract this idea. If i got a car to a -2.5 PW/R (are negatives even possible?) I would basically have a car that rips it's self apart when you touch the gas?

Is there a too low PW/R ration, rule of thumb?

See I'm learned something today!

:-)

Why thank you! I'm very excited to be in this series. I've been looking for something like this for GT3 for a few months now!

*innocently whistles*

And for the benefit of scuderia229 - go watch the GTGenome Project :D (http://www.davidanderson.co.uk/genome.htm).

The PWR figure in GT3 is stoopid. It's a Weight-to-Power ratio. A WPR of 2.5kg/hp is equivalent to a PWR of 400hp/tonne. If you go underneath the GT3 version of PWR, the actual PWR goes up. But I fear I may be confusing the issue now... :D

Most of the standard rally cars in GT3 weigh 1250kg. This means they are allowed up to 500hp before they break the rules of this race (1250kg/2.5 = 500hp). Your car's PWR is displayed in it's stats screen in your garage.

In this instance, a "legal" rally car is any car which can have rally tyres fitted to it in the game. I made a list a while ago in another post on this site, but I will reproduce it here:

*Note that since the only way to get these two cars is by hybriding, you won't be allowed to run them in this race.

The cars may be modified as long as they stay within the PWR ruling.

ASM and TCS are automatically turned off by the game on rally tracks. Even if you wanted to use them, you wouldn't be able to, no matter what.

And you can run any car from your garage which conforms to the rules. You'll be seriously disadvantaged in using an Arcade mode car.

Hope this helps you.
