Ok, progress report.

My English lessons are great! It's just amazing how much I've learnt in the few lessons I've had! The tutor is impressed with the work I've done so far, especially a letter I wrote, it was set out right, grammar was right etc. I read it out and other students were impressed too.

With CLAIT, that is interesting, if somewhat boring after a while. It is the very basics of using MS Word and Accel, but it is stuff I dont know and will come in useful for my home use (and hopefully future job too). I must admit, I'm taking in the stuff the tutor is teaching me much more easily than some of the other students.

So overall, I'm enjoying it and very glad I am going because just learning at home isnt the best thing IMO.

Cool, glad you're continuing to benefit from it, mate. How did you feel when you read out the letter to your fellow students? I'm terrible at "public speaking" things. I once had to do a short presentation for an elective class I took called Intorduction to Engineering. I was incredibly nervous about it and had printed out an acetate with what I wanted to say on it. I put it up on the data projector and basically read from it. I couldn't really do anything else because I had/have no confidence doing something like that. After about half a minute, the lecturer piped up with "We can all read from the overhead, don't you have anything else to say?"...

Needless to say, my confidence didn't improve much after that

You should get in there and help out any eligible bachelorettes if they're struggling with their CLAIT work ;)

Wow, about two years ago I was teaching people CLAIT.

Well mainly illegal immigrants who could barely speak english.

Was it two years, no must have been three or four.

Well, I was nervous, and the tutor did know, but the more you do it the better. I think most of my nerves were remembering school and getting picked on by how I spoke (my voice broke early FFS!). But everying was fine, and gave me a bit more confidence for next time.

Ya, I have thought of that, but I've never talked to them in my life so I need the confidence to talk to them first. :)

You teaching CLAIT!

j/k

Well, my classes' students arent immigrants.

Private School? I go to one also, I should start College at 16. Best of luck, James. I am also nevious, band concert. :scared:

YA I JUST SHOUTED AT THEM AND CALLED THEM FAGS BUT THEY WERE IMMIGRANTS AND DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ME LOL

But mang that was a frustrating job sometimes. I remember there was this 80 year old guy and he forgot everything during visits.

Another update.

Well, things are going well. Very actualy. My English tutor thinks I should now move onto a GCSE English class because this class is holding back my ability. This is great really, as it has boosted my confidence even more knowing that I'm good enough to be working at that level. I'm not sure what is happening yet, wether I'm going into an GCSE class straight away or at the end of the year when the new courses start. Hopefully I will find out soon.

The CLAIT is going well too. I'm doing MS Access at the moment which is interesting. I've never used it before so it is all new to me. It can be easy and a little boring, but it's great to know how to use all this software. Lately the class (only about 6 students in it now, everyone has left :odd: ) had a long coffee break and the tutor treated us all to a drink. Well, I've NEVER had a drink out of a coffee machine before and absolutely burnt my mouth on the first mouthful I took! Nearly a week later and it still hurts...

Anyway, more good news. The College has now decided to fund me! This is great, because they wouldn't fund me if I'm not worth funding right? I suppose it's a lot of strain off my parents too because it was pretty pricey.

So fingers crossed, later I will get into more part time courses I want to do and will finish the ones I'm doing with success!

Glad to see you're getting along well, James :) GCSE is what you would normally be doing at school at the moment, so that should be ok :)

Yes, you heard it right, I'm going to College and I'm only 14 (15 in a few weeks). :D The normal age is 16 here to go to College, but because I'm home educated (as most of you know) I have special permission to go there. There is no exceptions, I can still get qualifications and stuff when I'm this young, so it'll be a head start for me.

At the moment I'm only doing part-time courses, of:

English - Adult Literacy. I'm struggling at home with this a little and it's quite important to learn so it's a must. This course gets rid of the crappy Shakespeare and stuff like that. :)

CLAIT - this is to do with PC's. It's a well noticed qualification, and I'm into PC's too so this is great for me as well.

I must admit, I am very nervous as the moment, because the first lesson it tonight!. I'm more nervous than usual because (even though College is different) I'm going back into a learning envorment and is bringing back memories that I had at school. I just can't get rid of the nerves. :nervous: Fingers crossed after a few lessons and I pretty much like eveything they'll go away.

This thread may have a weak subject but I though I'd let you guys know. :)

Nice GT. I hope you have fun man and try to come back more intelligent than Famine so he could have some competition. :D

Great stuff:tup:

I wish you the greatest of luck in all your endeavours, James.

Haha, I wish!

Thanks everyone.

Wow, I haven't replied in here for a while. Time passes so quickly...

Well, my CLAIT course has finished. My results from the test should be coming through the post any day now, which I am looking forward to. I think I've done pretty well. The very last exam with File Management got screwed up a little, because we all did the exam and our results never even got to the Tutor to mark, so it all dissapeared... We had to do it again. Luckily, I knew what to do second time around better so that was good. :)

I probably will be moving onto a more advanced course in September, the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), if it doesn't clash with the English and Maths GCSE courses I will be doing in September. There is CLAIT Plus course, but the Tutor said the ECDL is based on a lot more things other than more advanced Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc from the CLAIT Plus, and is recognised by a lot of firms. Sounds like the better choice for me. It also contains a little bit of Web Design, so that will make it that bit more fun as I really want to do some. The Dreamweaver courses are just too full. :(

My English Literature course is going very well. I will be taking the Level 2 exam (the highest you can do in that course) on the 4th of June. The only downside to that exam is it's just reading and answering multi-choice questions! You don't have to do any writing at all unlike the Level one test! It's also an exam you can't really study for as it's just reading and can be totally random. My Tutor said I'm already very good at reading so that's a good thought to carry as I read books all the time.

Well, there we go, the belated update. :D

How does the colledge thing in England work?

In Belgium, we finish High school at an age of 17-18...

Is it some other system or are you so smart? :D

TheCracker
Any idea of what you want to do when you've finished College?
It's hard really. I am into computers very much, so it will probably be something to do with that at first. The computer side of things are changing all the time, so when the time comes I'm ready to want a job, I'll have to see what turns up available.

To be honest, I'm interested in the Science side of things too. I'm just scared that this can be very complicated. I've been thinking about doing a course on GCSE Science or something similar for some time now, but I'll have to see how busy I get in the next year or so.

You can leave school at 16, or carry onto 17 (I think). I'm home educated so I'm not too sure how the system works. You have to be 16 to get into College, but I have special permission because of being taught at home.

15. :D

I'll probably never go to our Universities here, but still, I'm not too sure what I'll be doing in the future...

Cool. Sounds like it's going well and I'm glad to hear you're confident about the results coming. Also sounds like you got a bit lucky with the second attempt at the File Management stuff

I've only just noticed in one of your older posts about you burning your mouth on the drink from the coffee machine. Been there, done that, my friend. I seem to have a low tolerance for temperature in my mouth or something, it takes me literally 45 minutes to drink a medium coffee from Costa.

Doing well G.T..

Pink_the_Floyd compulsory education is upto 16 after doing your GCSE's, then you have AS' and A-Levels then Uni..

All free until you get to uni

Impreza04
All free until you get to uni

And uni is free in Scotland :D

Well, sort of. You have to pay a contribution after you graduate (don't know how much it is, but the SAAS pays something around £1300 a year for your tuition).

Well, guys, I've got my English Literature Level 2 test tonight, so fingers crossed everything will go fine. I've tried revising on the BBC Skillswise website, but the test only requires hard reading and picking information out from text and that's pretty hard to revise for (even my tutor said revising is a little useless), so I just did a quick practise beforehand so I should be fine. I'll post tonight to tell you guys how everything went. :)

Everything went fine, almost. The classroom was stinking hot with the sun in my face, and there wasn't any blinds! The first 15-30 minutes was torture because of this. It didn't help that the paper was really hard too - everyone agreed with me afterwards. I managed to do all 40 questions and check them again (up to question 35) with the spare time I had afterwards. I thought I'd done really badly but when I checked them, I think I answered them pretty well. I just have to wait for the results now...

I hope you guys don't mind rabbiting on about my College life.

Congrats on college. I'll be registering for college in the next few weeks. I think I have to wait to get my SAT scores back.

Shame about the conditions in the classroom, G.T. Sounds like a right bugger. You seem confident though, so hopefully things went well 👍

Seems like the test went well. Congrats! Now let's see how many sleepless nights you'll get waiting until the results come in
