My Fairlady goes East

Welcome one and all to the first WES race of the New Year.
After what turned out to be a scary 90 minute race at Le Sarthe, which didn’t attract a great number of entries,
I decided to put up a much easier combo that would be a LOT more relaxing to race.

And, we are back to the weekly time-frame again too!

So without further prevarication, here it is!
You will be taking out our first Nissan, around the lovely Grand Valley East Section course. So smooth driving, and controlled braking is required, especially in the rollercoastery middle section. And commitment is the order of the day in the final 1/3.

Good luck, and happy relaxed driving to you all!

Mode : ARCADE
Race type : SINGLE RACE
Location: ORIGINAL CIRCUITS/GRAND VALLEY EAST SECTION (FORWARD/NORMAL)
Car: JAPAN / NISSAN / FAIRLADY Z CONCEPT LM RACE CAR ‘02

Initial Settings
Transmission : Manual/Auto - Your choice
Aids : NONE
Tyres : RM
A.I. : +10

Now go into the options screen, and adjust the settings in ARCADE to the following:

Number of Laps : 30
Tyre Wear : STRONG
Driving Aids : NONE
Penalty : SPEED LIMITER
Time Limit : NONE

Exit, and now go into the quick tune-up section, and change the settings to the following:

Power : -17% (PAL), +1% (NTSC) @ 505 Hp
Weight: -10% @ 1008 Kg
Top Speed : ANY
Driving Aids : NONE
Transmission : Your Choice
Tyre Type : RACING
Front Tyres : RS OR RM’S ONLY
Rear Tyres : RS OR RM’S ONLY
YOU MUST USE EACH COMPOUND AT LEAST ONCE DURING THE RACE!

You will now be set up for the race, there is no qualifying to do, just the race!

DEADLINE :
numberoneaq1bvm2.gif

Midnight GMT TUESDAY night, JANUARY 22ND

RULES:

You must use the settings laid out above at all times.
You must try to keep 2 wheels on the track at all times.
An occasional off is to be expected, but use your judgement and morals to decide if you have gained from it or not. If you have gained, or feel that you have taken an advantage from the off, then please bin the race and re-start.
A.I. contact is allowed, but NO penalties are allowed.
NO wall contact is allowed.
All podium times will be verified by the posting of either a replay or a photo of the screen showing your final time AFTER the deadline is past.
Any suspicious times will be investigated by either myself or where appropriate an NTSC user of my choice.
All decisions of the Administrator (me) are final, any cheating of any kind what so ever, will be dealt with in the appropriate manor.
You may discuss any splits or individual lap times, just not your final times.

Times should be sent to myself (Tyre King) via PM by the above deadline, as marked by the GTPlanet PM system time stamp.
Replays and screen shots should be posted in this thread after that time has passed.

Time sending format:

Number of laps completed:
Race Fastest lap:
Pitting strategy : BE SPECIFIC!

Aremburgkerve has unfortunately received a DNF, for not using RM tyres during the race.
It made no difference to the main result or podium but would have done so to the fastest lap results, primarily because he pitted a lot using softs only.

GTXDriver missed the deadline, but posted his times as : 30'07.448 & 55.864! Because of the missed deadline he unfortunately gets a DNS, sorry buddy!

Live and learn, eh?👍

Congrat's to my bud's Andy and Marty for 1st and 3rd overall, and again to Andy and Cam for their 2nd & 3rd fastest laps!
Nice close race in the end, with the first 4 within 5 seconds after 30 laps, and all fastest laps within 1.5 seconds.

Well done guys!

Neil

VERY GOOD idea mate!

I have some in the fridge ready and chilled, plus the right glass too!

Mmmmmm Guinness! (Be still my pet, it'll be ready soon)

Neil

I must be some sort of idiot!:dunce:

I have had my PS3 for a while now, and had it hooked up to my HD screen via a component cable. BUT, for some reason I had the display setting set to use a composite cable, and was stuck @ 576i resolution (for some reason the HDMI socket doesn't work with the PS3 :grumpy:)

I was playing around with the settings today, and suddenly had the appropriate epiphany that I wasn't using the correct cable settings! :dunce:

I set it to use component, then up popped the options for using 576i,720p,1080i & 1080p resolutions (which hadn't appeared before).
I picked 720p, and the graphical improvement was astounding! But I was a little disappointed by how the upscaling made the screen a little blurry.
I tried turning smoothing off & on, then alternated between full-screen & normal up-scaling, all with similar results except that normal up-scaling and smoothing on was slightly better than the others.

On a whim, I tried to set the output to 1080i (which according the specs of my TV, shouldn't be supported) and WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not only did it work, which amazed me, but the results were even better than I could have EVER imagined!

Moral of the story, none! Except, never listen to me when asking for advise about settings for the PS3! :dopey:

Neil

:cheers:After that advise .. i'm running out the door to purchase a PS3 .. :cheers:great advert Neil .. you should go into advertising {after visiting a memory rehab clinic perhaps :)} .. either that or reduce your guinness intake .

Looking forward to Grand Valley , though not on the list of favourite tracks ... the Fairlady certainly is one of my favourite cars 👍 ...

.. either that or reduce your guinness intake .

NEVER! How dare you suggest that I forsake my noble Scouse heritage and ignore my need for a constant mix of English/Irish/Scottish and Welsh!

I mean, Full English Breakfast's, Cold Guinness, Malt Whisky without ice, and..........sheep! Who could resist?

:p

BTW: Don't forget to get a COMPONENT cable when you get it (if you have an HD screen), OR, an HDMI cable if you have an HDMI capable TV!

Neil

I can't find the car. Is this a car that one needs to win?

EDIT: Aha. Got it. Car is won at the Japanese Championship. Must have sold it for some reason. Well - I'm off to the JC.

Results Will Go Here!

And the Guinness goes here!

:D
BRILLIANT!!! :D

And now that the Qualifying requirement is no longer needed, maybe I'll be able to take part in some of these WES races as well as some of the other Series. I might have a few other WES round suggestions to throw into the hopper as well. ;)

More than welcome to do so mate! I've found the box, and brought it up the the first page again.

Suggest away!👍

Neil

Wow that is ironic - just as I started redoing Special Licence 5 to qualify for the WES, it gets temporarily scrapped.....
Neil, if you want, I could send the time i have for S-5 anyway, just in case it does ever get split up into divisions. Now I am off to have a drive round Grand Valley, and think of some suggestions! :)

Joe

Yes Joe! You can still send me your time for the qualifier round.
You never know, the results may get used to split us up at a later date.

and suggestions are always welcome 👍

Done this run once so far, and it is a very relaxing race.

As long as you don't push too hard over the hill into the right-hander and aim to take out the cones on the exit you can sustain 5th gear right till the braking point for the right/left into the tunnel. Obviously you still have to have 2 wheels on the track also, when taking the cones out, but it straightens out the left/right kinks and maintains your speed.

Neil

Hey Neil, I'm sure I have the correct car but at +20 in power I get 600HP not the 730 that's posted so I'm assuming the 730 is a typo ...or I'm an idiot....really it could go either way:)

Andy!

Make sure it's the Nissan Fairlady Z Concept LM Race Car '02 that's between the the Nissan mm-R Cup Car '01 & the Nissan BLUEBIRD Rally Car (510) '69 in the line-up.
It's shown as having NO (--) HP figure on the selection screen, but at the race screen & Quick-tune screen shows 608Hp with no adjustments, and 730Hp with +20%

It should have a No. 75 on the side and be mainly RED, with blue flashes and a white bonnet/hood!

OK?

Neil

Whoever wins this challenge will win a month's worth of Guiness and a Mystery prize;)

Del doesnt drink Guinness [thank goodness] .. i wont win here anyway .. Neil will ; the Guinness will be the temptation to excell himself .

You know, someone reading just this thread would get the impression that I was an alcoholic! :(

But I do tend to get an awful lot of Guinness stuff given to me.
For example, for Christmas I got a calender, bottle opener, slippers, a very nice shirt, some fudge, some chocolate..........ALL of it Guinness branded!

Not that I would complain about it as I do love Guinness. And yes, I do have a fridge right next to my PC/PS3 station that is quite often full of Guinness for the weekend's racing.
But it ain't the cornerstone of my existence, it is close to it though.:)

C'et La Vite!

I don't know what to tell you Neil, I"m sure have the correct car, #75, in between the Bluebird and the M&M and it's called Nissan Z Concept LM Race Car '02, it does not say Fairlady, colors exactly how you describe. At the quick tune at 0% it reads 500 HP at +20 it reads 600 HP. The -20 weight gives me the correct 1008 Kg. I'm using the Uber save, I don't know what to say or do. Suggestions anyone?
Are you completely sure Neil? My hotlap is 1.5 seconds off yours but I've only run about 25 laps so far and am not yet comfortable with the course yet, doubt I've spent over 40 minutes total on that course since GT4 came out. But I expect you to be faster but there should be more then 1.5 difference with a 130 HP difference.

Could any other NTSC driver confirm this HP problem? If so i will adjust the settings and redo the deadline!

Neil

I think there maybe a difference with this car between the PAL and NTSC versions of GT4 ?

And yes .. anyone who has a fridge full of Guinness too close to their racing cockpit .. is definately deemed dependant on the dark juice = alcoholic 👍 .. :)

I think there maybe a difference with this car between the PAL and NTSC versions of GT4 ?

Yeah there are lots of minor differences between the two but 130 HP is more then minor especially when you're on the losing end:) The strangest part of it is that the 600HP is not much slower then the 730 HP version. Well hopefully another NTSC drivers can shed some light on the subject.

OK, guess that confirms a major difference in PAL and NTSC. What next Neil, a different car or tuning of the present one? How about the Nissan Calsonic or something similar...I don't care whatever you come up with, but if you change cars let me know and we can compare HP and weight before posting...oh yeah....hurry up, put the Guinness down for a moment :)

OK! I'm gonna have to think about this one!

OK!

I have it sorted! I Think?

The only exact matching figures I can think of, are:

NTSC drivers must use +1% ie 500Hp + 1% (5Hp) = 505 Hp
PAL drivers must use -17% ie 608Hp - 17% (-103Hp) = 505 Hp

I'll edit the 1st post to reflect these changes, and expect all drivers to adhere to the spirit of the race!

Neil

If the Hp figure adjustments are acceptable to the NTSC guys, i'll add a few days to the deadline!

Neil

Del has done his tyre testing .. and is waiting willing wanting to race .. watching the tennis while the RD decides on the green light .

I just need one of the NTSC guys to confirm that +1% = 505Hp and we are go again!
Andy and Phil have buggered off, so I have no idea where we stand!

If it does we'll go with that and i'll adjust the main post.

Sorry for the foul up, but one doesn't expect Hp differences like this between versions of the game! Still on a learning curve here!

But go with the -17% (505Hp) figure for the PAL guys, and +1% (505Hp) figure for the NTSC guys in the meantime!
