They're the most idiotic things, whenever people enter an online room they always seem to have this pathetic catch phrase that they immediately write up, then when the exit there's an outro as well.

They are not at all clever, I don't know how some people think they're even witty. Sure, it is a way for someone to recognize better if they ever raced with you, but it really just makes you look like an idiot.

It's just for more customization for the game.

You know they're probably not typing it each time...the game allows you to set a "enter room" and "exit room" message that is auto-displayed each time.

Well that makes more sense, but truly everyone does it thinking that they have this awesome catch phrase. It's not at all clever and just makes you look bad...

It's done automatically weather you want it to or not.

What is yours?

Mine mentions GTPlanet.net on the way in and out. I'm not funny, just funny looking.

You either have one, or left yours blank.
That's right, the game asked you what to put there, and you forgot about it, then saw what others put there, and got confused, thought it was stupid, (it is, I'll give you that) then made a thread on the internet complaining about it.

I think without insult we can all have a laugh now. :sly:

I don't do it because 1. I didn't even know you could do that, hehe 2. they always seem pretentious if you want something memorable so I don't see a reason for it.

That's strange, because I don't remember where it could have come up to begin with.
I'm not confused by it either, I can see why people do it, what I don't understand is how they can all come off sounding so silly. And I thought that was what this internet business was made for, to complain out loud.

When you first fired up the game and were online. ;)
And yes, the internet is for complaining and porn. Mostly the latter.

You can get what now?

My suggestion is, come up with something funny to you, put it in, then all the 14 year old boys can roll their eyes when you enter the room.

Just please don't use characters to write words and dodge the filter.

Ciao? Is that dumb? How about Adios Amigos! Is that dumb? If everyone's personalization is absurd to you there are truly two choices. Ignore it and stop racing online so you don't have to see it.

Well clearly not every one, but all the ones I come across have been (as far as I've noticed at least). I just don't understand how people think what they're writing is good idea and the reason I comment on it is because in my experience there are so many people that do so , although now that I know they're not actively doing it each time it makes a bit more sense.

Just so you know, if you didn't set yours, they currently say "Nice to meet you" when you enter a room, "I win!" when you win a race and "See you next time!" when you leave a room.

I'm sure that has them rolling in the aisles.

I notice it says "Hello," and it seems to say "I win!" for more people (guess they don't change that as much) which is also very strange haha. But that's the standard then, it wasn't anyone's decision so it doesn't reflect on them.

Wow, some people are just born to complain and whine. What are you going to complain about next?

Yes, because complaining about one thing on a forum which discusses a game is over the top or uncalled for. I guess I'll start complaining about the nature of human beings next, which is to complain.

I use to have funny sayings, but I got over it.
Mine are now blank, with the exception of my hilarious win message.
The less the GT5 servers have to process, the better.

When I enter " "
When I leave " "
When I win "..."

In short, the only auto message is my winning one, the rest aren't shown as I also hate those messages.

It's standard for one of three reasons - they didn't want to change it (unimaginative), they didn't change it (lazy) or they didn't know they could change it (ill informed).

See how easy it is to apply insulting labels to people for relatively innocuous acts?

That's exactly what you're already doing. It's the humans that put silly things into the auto messages. Just because you don't find most of them funny doesn't mean the feature itself is stupid. A lot of GTP members put the initials for their league in the entrance message so hosts know that they are in the league and won't boot them. A very handy feature actually

My thoughts exactly.

I agree with Milldrum, too, who said write something you find witty yourself and leave it at that. Your real friends will tell you if it's funny or not. It's probably not, but why should anyone care?

Then again, I do remember giving the odd sigh and / or cringe when I saw some auto-messages. That's no different to taking a walk down the high-street and remarking upon the wealth and colour of "character" in certain people there...

 Yea, I seriously doubt that feature was forced upon PD, by the Comedy Club.

Just a insignificant personalization trinket.

I only wish they could have extended the courtesy to wheel changes for Standard cars.

But I guess that didn't have enough humorous potential.

It has to be said, "See you next time!" has a certain subtle humour to it* - and probably an accidental one at that. Bit of a censor bypass...

*Say it as spoken initials, rather than spelled ones... "See you next Tuesday" is more traditional, but it's close enough...

And stunningly prophetic for sure.

Not to mention the sheer eloquence.

Alright, I'll give you that my first post might have been unnecessarily hostile (I was sort of venting), I'm shocked at how ridiculous so many of them are.

Well it's not quite the same, but I never said it was the feature that I was complaining about, I already made clear that I could see the reason why it's there, I'm saying it's how people use it that makes my stomach seem to turn.
