The name , Gran Turismo, it says RACING, it says DRIVING it says it all, abbreviated to GT, its foolproof in its self-descriptive glory.
FM, like FM radio? It actualy sounds like Forzas name was conceived in a "ballpark brainstorming" session which started with Gran Turismo.
"How can we say exactly the same thing, but different, while being EXACTLY the same and throwing in a bit of "exoticism" by using an Italian word?"
"Let's see, FORZA! its strong, its brash, its foreign, its virile youthful, FORRRRRRZA, like a raging hard-on or a white water rapid, its noisy its tough, its v8 its MAN" Almost sounds like Clarkson for a minute
The physics GT games are the closest thing you'll get to actually driving these amazing vehicles and have them handle much like they do in real life. The selection of vehicles now it is a shame that the likes of Ferrari and lambo haven't (legally) made their way into a GT game before GTprologue but the selection of cars is never lacking in quality or quantity. The graphics on top of having amazing physics GT games always have amazing visuals that accomplish graphics a few generations ahead of whatever the current gen is at at the moment The tuning If you know how to, you can make your car drive/handle/feel the way you want it to, just the amount of detail that has been put into this aspect of the game is just simply amazing
I'll have to say the physics, there are a lot of other things that makes it great, but for me is the sensation of driving not many other games can replicate the progresivenes and the dynamics of real driving...
Gran Tursimo gives me an overall sense of appreciating the wonderful machine that is the car. Other games like NFS make them into play things, but GT somehow makes them into serious machines.
A Mazda Demio is more fun for me to drive on GT than a Murcielago on NFS.
The feeling when you swing out wide, dive into the corner, outbrake the 1st place car, hit the gas and edge out in front of the pack, then cross the finish line.
To me that "feeling" is what make Gran Turismo great.
The history of the game. When I bought GT4 I couldn't wait to race against the Mazda 787B, Toyota GT-One and Nissan R390 (the best cars in GT3) because I had such good memories of racing against them in the earlier games. Again I can't wait to get my hands on some of the old group C cars from GT4 and still those same three I mentioned before. I've driven the GT-one and R390 in other racing games, like Forza but it is just never as fun because they don't have the history, the passion.
That one thing that makes Gran Turismo so exceptional is, like the PS3 commercials say, "It only does everything."
This game is what it is because it is the sum of it's parts, and those individual parts are fantastic in their own right.
Sure, you could make a game that does something better than the GT series, but no one else outside of PD has come even remotely close to hitting on the ultimate combination of everything the way that Gran Turismo has.
If GT didn't have all of these things that were posted in this thread, this forum might not have some of these members, as they would have never developed their attachment to the game and the series.
What other game allows someone like me a chance to throw a Formula 1 car around Suzuka on pro settings, allows my cousin from Indy to drive a car exactly like his own Corvette around his hometown Indy oval course, can allow my younger cousins the chance to race against each other with driving aids on (so they don't get discouraged from inability to control a fast car on a harder course), or allow a non-gamer (my wife) and/or a car/racing enthusiast (my dad) a chance to just sit back and enjoy the visual experience, and provide equal entertainment to all four parties?
It's only Gran Turismo, and it's because it does everything spectacularly well together.
The freedom to drive some of the most obscure cars in the world on the most famous tracks in the world, and also possibly the ability to fit a massive turbo to a Fiat Panda and have more fun than you would in Koenigseggseggseggsegg (etc) CCXR.
Oh and hello to the other Ryan who also likes mustangs!
